The decision-making process is a key element within many fields. Rationality is a theoretical framework to understand that social and economic behavior which contributes to better decisional processes. This role of rationality generates expectations from the stakeholders of the decisional process, one of which is refers to the need of including ethical criteria within the decisional process itself. This essay explores both the concept of rationality, as well as its types, in order to evaluate the extent to which ethical criteria should be part of said process. In doing this, the concepts of minimal instrumental rationality and ethics are analyzed, setting the stage for a discussion of common fields and roles in relation to both available knowledge before the decision-making, and reasoning, derived actions, and consequences. This essay concludes that rationality and ethics share much duri...

This paper aims to discuss which basic implications firms need to be aware of if they decide to include equity shares as a part of salary payments in order for them to tackle financial risks due to the COVID-19 crisis, benefiting with better liquidity. We discuss this alternative from the strand of potential financial benefits, but also include a power perspective, emphasizing how firms could share with employees their decision-making processes as well as a part of their position of traditional hegemony. We concluded that firms’ decision regarding this financial alternative fits into a short-term benefit and at the same time threats a long run position of power.

Conflicts between stakeholders during decision making in construction projects occur on a daily basis, as they often have an inadequate communications management, causing delays and cost overruns in the project. For this reason, alternative solutions were sought to reduce the percentage of delays due to decision-making conflicts. The proposal of this research focuses on the implementation of a collaborative software model in public works in its execution stage, this software allows the members of a work team, a fluid communication, as well as the instantaneous sharing of information. The software was implemented in a Peruvian company of small and medium contracting capacity, the process of elaboration of valorization was analyzed before the implementation of the software, that is to say, the elaboration in a traditional way, where it was obtained that the main events that generated delay...

The COVID-19 pandemic is a difficult scenario for clinical decision making. Therefore, this paper aims to explain healthcare practitioners some basic concepts about evidence-based decision making with respect on doing or not doing a given intervention. For this, firstly we will discuss in which cases an evidence-based decision making process in necessary. Then, some previous concepts will be clarified (decision making based on pathophysiological plausibility, observations made during clinical practice, clinical evidence, as well as the influence from the pharmaceutical industry). Afterwards steps for evidence-based decision making will be described: Asking a question, looking for references answering this question, critically assess such references, understand the underlying logic for decision making, prepare for decisionmaking, make a balance (benefit, harm, and cost), perform a shared ...

The purpose of the study was to describe the need for decision-making from the conceptualized training between Statistics and Data Science. Four elements are key in science: theory, data, methodology, and problem, because if the data is part of science then it seems wrong that there is a DataScience since no methodology from Data Science can decide, the “ideal or correct” pattern since there are multiple patterns to be understood. On the other hand, if the statistical programs are incapable of analyzing hundreds of thousands of data (it makes no sense when decisions are recognized from a random probabilistic sample and, on the contrary, not considered makes it impossible to make inferences), then the possibility of representing diversity from Statistics is limited since there is centralization in minimizing the sums of the deviations to the mean square and not understanding the diver...

Observatorio Andino (OA) was established in 2008 by The Centro de Modelado Científico (CMC) in collaboration with Climate information applied to agricultural risk management in the Andean countries (CIIFEN). The OA main goal is to provide a collaborative network that ultimately increases the efficiency of the decision-making processes, especially in terms of getting more accurate forecasts and exchanging experiences on data, information, and scientific products, all of which is done with a standardized methodology and a Web-sharing service. The Observatorio Andino follows a three level hierarchical model execution flux, with the same approach for both short-term and seasonal products. In order to facilitate the validation process, a spatial map for each time slice of interest involving the differences and/or the anomaly correlations between model output and observations, is generated. T...

Currently, many industrial companies generate many losses in their after sales this is generated to an error in the control of inventories and in turn in a mishandling of their assets through their processes, therefore the present research proposes a management model of processes and control of inventories in order to reduce customer losses due to the large number of existing complaints and thus increase sales. Therefore, the process management model, which will contribute to the standardization, optimization and control of its critical processes, and for which indicators, procedures and policies will be proposed for each stage of the process in order to measure its efficiency and effectiveness for correct decision making. With respect to the control of inventories, it is proposed to make a segmentation of the products, which allows the identification of the most important products for t...

In the sustainable tourist sector today, there is a wide margin of loss in small and medium-sized enterprise (SMEs) because of a poor control in logistical expenses. In other words, acquired goods are note being sold, a scenario which is very common in tourism SMEs. These SMEs buy a number of travel packages to big companies and because of the lack of demand of said packages, they expire and they become an expense, not the investment it was meant to be. To solve this problem, we propose a Predictive model based on sentiment analysis of a social networks that will help the sales decision making. Once the data of the social network is analyzed, we also propose a prediction model of tourist destinations, using this information as data source it will be able to predict the tourist interest. In addition, a case study was applied to a real Peruvian tourist enterprise showing their data before ...

Knowledge translation (KT) in Public Health involves the use of scientific evidence by decision makers when generating health policies directed to accelerate the benefits resulting from research and innovation in health system and ultimately people´s health. In this paper we review the definitions and conceptual frameworks related to systematization of KT processes. The different approaches to KT share the concept that KT is composed by two main elements: a product (information) developed through scientific method with a friendly format for the target public and an action devoted to support or promote a health related practice using the aforementioned product. The understanding and application of KT is a key element for effective use of knowledge in decision making.

The World Wide Web has become a vital supplier of information for organizations in order to carry on such tasks as business intelligence, security monitoring, and risk assessments. By utilizing the task-technology fit (TTF) theory, we investigate the issue of when open-domain question-answering (QA) technology would potentially be superior to general-purpose Web search engines. Specifically, we argue theoretically and back up our arguments with a user study that the presence of fusion (information synthesis) is crucial to warrant the use of QA. At the same time, many information seeking tasks do not require fusion and, thus, are adequately served by traditional keyword search portals (Google, MSN, Yahoo, etc.). This explains why prior attempts to demonstrate the value of QA empirically were unsuccessful. We also discuss methodological challenges to any empirical investigation of QA and p...

Today, the complexities of the supply chain pose enormous challenges for organizations. This has intensified the need and constant search for resilient management. The risks that threaten it arise unexpectedly and aggressively at any point in the logistics chain and their impact may not always be favorably outweighed by companies. Likewise, those responsible must manage various contingency factors in increasingly competitive environments, this has meant until today the establishment of methods of how to shield the probable disruptions in various  scenarios. However, comprehensive risk management can be an effective approach to address these uncertainties. In this sense, the information developed aims to be useful to various organizations and especially their managers in charge of management, so that they make decisions based on shared and reflective experience, aimed at business com...
