The Soxhlet method in extracting plasticizers from PVC compounds presents various areas for improvement, such as the amount of solvent used, the time required in the process, and its costs. This study proposes replacing the Soxhlet method with the ultrasound-assisted method to reduce the time, costs, and amount of solvent used in plasticizer extraction. It also proposes using solvent recovered from previous extractions to reduce costs further. The study involved experimentation with three different grades of PVC compounds (medical, cable, and profile) to compare the recovery of plasticizers by the Soxhlet and the ultrasound-assisted methods. The plasticizers obtained were analyzed using gas chromatography, gas chromatography coupled with mass spectroscopy, and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy to evaluate the results of each extraction method as compared to reference co...

The research involved two stages: In the first one, screening methodology was performed toevaluate the effect of the most significant factors: temperature, time and ratio raw material:solvent (MP: S) on the extraction of fructooligosaccharides (FOS) and reducing sugars (AR)from yacon flour. A factorial arrangement 2K were used; the levels for the factors were: time5-40 minutes; ratio MP: S 1:10-1:70 g / ml; temperature 30-90 ° C; responses variables wereextraction yield of FOS and AR. The results indicated that only the factor ratio MP: S hadsignificant effect on the extraction of FOS and AR (p-value <0.05). In the next stage, manylevels of ratio MP: S (1:10 to 1: 100 g / ml) were evaluated holding for time 5 minutes andtemperature at 30°C. Maximum extraction and greatest recovery of the extract was obtainedwith ratio MP:S 1:30. Finally, two kinetic models were used to describe the ...

The coffee industry, coffee shops and restaurants are in constant expansion and growth. Consequently, large amounts of Spent Coffee Grounds (SCG) are generated, which are solid coffee residues obtained after the ground coffee leaching process. This residue can be reused because of its compounds as phenolics. The objective of the present study was to evaluate the effect of extraction time (30-90 min) assisted by ultrasound (45kHz and 50 W), liquid-solid ratio (10-40 ml/g) and ethanol concentration (20-93.8%) in the total phenolic compounds (CFT) content expressed as mg gallic acid/g SCG dry matter. Surface response methodology (MSR) was used, as an efficient technique that minimizes the number of experiments, through the central rotational compound design (DCCR) to determine the effect of these 3 factors and to perform the optimization of the extraction process conditions of total phenoli...

This paper presents an investigation of the extraction of essential oils by steam distillation. The process is analyzed and a model is developed for the extraction of essential oil of eucalyptus in pilot scale with a steam flow of 5.73 g / min. According to the model Dunckhorst-Houghton, which considers the effect of axial dispersion, and the use of optimization procedures to establish the model parameters, excellent agreement was obtained between the amount of oil extracted theoretical and experimental.

The aim of this study was to extract collagen from the waste produced in the processing of anchovies (canned and surimi). To this end, non-collagenous proteins was solubilized with a solution of 0,1N sodium hydroxide and neutralized with successive washes with water (pH close to neutral). Then, the residues were decalcified with a EDTA 0,5M solution; degreased with butanol 10% and finally the collagen protein were solubilized with acetic acid 0,5M and precipitated with sodium chloride 2,6M. Collagen precipitated was dialyzed and lyophilized. The hydroxyproline content (Hip) were quantified in waste and lyophilized collagen, getting the values of 6,5 and 52,9 mg of hydroxyproline/g sample, respectively. The solubility of lyophilized collagen decreased about 40% at a concentration of 12% NaCl. Gel electrophoresis showed a strong band of approximately 110 kDa molecular weight that correspon...

Diabetic foot ulcers are microvascular lesions considered one of the most serious complication of people with diabetes, by not having sufficient caution and care they can evolve into ulcers with difficult and slow healing, coupled with all existing pharmacological treatments, people of indigenous communities complement the treatments by using Traditional Medicine (TM) with adjuvant treatments based on plant extracts that help the wound healing process. The objective was to know the use of Aloe vera, honney, Calotropis procera, Caléndula officinalis, Plectranthus amboinicus y Centella asiática, Jatropha multífida, Phellodendri, Annona muricata L, however, most localized clinical studies are performed in rodents and in-vitro. This is due to the methodologies established to determine the safety and efficacy of use in humans and in this way, through the multidisciplinary health team, coll...

In this paper we have studied the effect of the moisture from the eucalyptus leaf and the time of extraction on the yield of essential oil and the production cost. We took into account parameters such as steam temperature, pressure extraction, porous bed, steam flow and temperature of condensation. A Central Composite Rotational Design was used to evaluate optimum extraction areas and the cost that would follow, searching always to increase yields and reduce costs. According to this design, the extraction with the lowest production costs (0.57 Nuevos Soles by mL of essential oil) is reached when the leaves have moisture between 25 and 30% and are extracted with times between 98 and 126 min.

Fructooligosaccharides (FOS) are fructose polymers, linked by β-glucosidic bonds (2-1), considered low caloric food sweeteners with prebiotic function and can be obtained from sucrose by biosynthesis. The fruits of the carob tree (Prosopis pallida) contain mainly carbohydrates where sucrose stands out. For this reason, the production of FOS from carob extract was optimized using a pectinase from A. aculeatus. The response surface methodology using was applied to optimize the parameters that affected production: time, temperature and carob extract; then they were verified experimentally. The biosynthesis process of FOS was carried out with carob extract at the concentrations of 20, 35 and 50 ° Bx, Pectinase at 10, 35 and 61mg, at 45, 55 and 65 °C for 0,5, 9,5 and 18 h, with stirring at 150 rpm The analysis methods were glucose oxidase and AOAC 999.03, for glucose and FOS respectively a...

Objective: To evaluate the dimensional changes produced after a dental extraction in the posterior sites using techniques of preservation of ridge and conventional healing. Materials and methods: Two independent and calibrated reviewers conducted an electronic search of randomized clinical trials published until December 2018 in Pubmed and Cochrane, which was complemented by a manual search in the journals with the greatest impact in Periodontics and Implantology according to the ISI Web of Science. The evaluation of the risk of bias in the included studies was carried out following the Cochrane manual for interventions of systematic reviews Version 5.1.0. Results: A total of 435 posterior pieces, between premolars and molars, were evaluated in the included studies after 3 months post extraction. Statistically significant values were obtained for the group that p...

Peru maintains a leading position in the world mining in connection to production and extraction of metals like copper, zinc, silver, gold among others. Geological exploration and prospecting already carried out, show us a promissory future for the above mentioned minerals and other interesting findings like nickel in millerite ore which was proved in some ore deposits of the Marañón geological complex. This occurrence allowed us to carry out metallurgical investigation, specifically hydrometallurgical processing for the Peruvian sulphide ore aimed to the development of profitable mining operations for both private sector and the Peruvian state. We showed the metallurgical test results carried out at the metallurgical engineering school related to obtaining metallic nickel plates and its by products like cement and sulphate crystals.
