Experiential tourism can be a catalyst for enhancing the wellbeing of indigenous communities. Yet, experiential tourism is a conundrum as cultural adaption to increase tourists’ satisfaction can threaten authenticity. This study examined the dialectic between experiential tourism and traditional culture among seven Quechua communities in Peru offering experiential tourism, by addressing three questions: (1) What is the perceived the role of ancestral traditions in experiential tourism? Este artículo presenta los datos obtenidos en la primera temporada de investigación del Proyecto Arqueológico Kushipampa. Mediante la comparación con la información disponible de sitios contemporáneos, el autor propone la identificación preliminar de una nueva tradición regional surgida a finales del Periodo Formativo Tardío. Esta tradición se caracterizó por un tipo particular de cerámica y de arquitectura en sitios ubicados principalmente en la zona alta del valle de Nepeña. Tras el declive del sistema económico relacionado con el culto chavín, alrededor de 500 a.C., un conjunto de comunidades, en el que se incluía a Kushipampa, concibió y artículo la red de intercambio que terminó por reemplazar el sistema vigente hasta entonces.

The economic value added (EVA), orginally developed by Stern Stewart & Company, is a relatively new financial tool that is being adopted successfully by many firms. However, evidence of EVA as a predictor of shareholders’ wealth is mixed. This paper empirically verifies the effect of productivity growth, a real missing link between EVA and a firm’s financial health, on shareholders’ wealth maximization. The study uses the firm-level data from the Indian food processing industry for the period 1993-94 to 2005-06 to measure and decompose the Malmquist productivity index into its different components, such as technological change, pure efficiency change and change in scale efficiency, by using the technique of data envelopment analysis (DEA). Este capítulo cuestiona la evidencia sobre la conquista y el control Wari en la región por falta de evidencia de economía extractiva o centros administrativos del Estado. Es común escuchar que “el Perú es más grande que sus problemas”. Pero ¿es esto posible? ¿Es coherente pensar que el país sigue avanzando a pesar de la inestabilidad política, la corrupción, las desigualdades e injusticias, la baja productividad, la creciente violencia, el poco apego a la norma, la enorme apatía, etcétera? A veces siento que esta expresión realmente busca justificar la inacción y el statu quo. Que es una mezcla rara de falso triunfalismo, negacionismo y espíritu encubridor. Lo común es que esta frase sea utilizada por algunos como pretexto para obviar alguna barbaridad y justificar el “borrón y cuenta nueva”. Todo porque –según nos dicen– “no se debe detener la marcha del país”. Pregunto, ¿detener su marcha hacia dónde? ¿Al desfiladero? La grandeza del Perú se construirá desde nuestra cotidianidad.

Indonesia y Perú albergan algunas de las mayores zonas de turberas tropicales de tierras bajas. Las turberas de Indonesia están sometidas a una actividad antropogénica mucho mayor que las de Perú, como el drenaje, la tala, la conversión agrícola y la quema, lo que da lugar a elevadas emisiones de gases de efecto invernadero y partículas. Para obtener información de la experiencia indonesia, exploramos los patrones de impacto en los dos países y comparamos sus factores predisponentes. Recent scientific assessment studies of climate change impacts, including those from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, provide evidence of the negative effects of climate variability and change on natural and human systems. For instance, recent climate trends have caused loss in wheat and maize production, negatively affected coral reefs, and changed characteristics of some hazards in high-mountain regions. Assessment studies furthermore suggest that related risks to ecosystems, commerce, and daily life may increase over the coming decades as temperatures warm. En el contexto de una importante escasez de donaciones de sangre y la urgente necesidad de fomentar una cultura de donación voluntaria, el análisis se centra en una campaña de sensibilización realizada en junio de 2023 en el Hospital Kaelin, por el Día Mundial del Donante Voluntario de Sangre. The greenhouse effect produced by the emission of gases generates a lack of protection in the environment that grows more and more annually due to the millions of CO2 emissions in the different environments, for which a greenhouse prototype was built through a set of engineering areas. An automated system for monitoring and detection of methane, CO2 and CO gases with a solar panel, for which the design of the circuit, design of the printed plate and design of the solar panel recharging system, selection of polluting gas sensors was carried out, assembly of the components on the PCB, development of the control and automation program with the ATMEGA328P microcontroller, an adaptation of the cubicle and assembly, tests of sending the data by GPRS to a server in different zones and times of high contamination.

The biodiversity present in Peru will be affected by climatic and anthropogenic changes; therefore, understanding these changes will help generate biodiversity conservation policies. This study analyzes the potential distributions of biomes (B) in Peru under the effects of climate change. The evaluation was carried out using the random forest (RF) method, six bioclimatic variables, and digital topography for the classification of current B in Peru. Subsequently, the calibrated RF model was assimilated to three downscaled regional climate models to project future B distributions for the 2035–2065 horizon. This article presents an analysis of the relationship between the pandemic and climate change, as well as an analysis of the impact of its effects in Peru. In this way, it contrasts the different international commitments assumed by Peru for the mitigation of climate change and the actions that have been taken to achieve these commitments. This brings to light the problems of governance and institutional strength, which have been evidenced, and in other cases aggravated, by the pandemic. To conclude, different legal perspectives on the General Law on Climate Change will be presented, in order to point out the challenges Peru faces in achieving effective legislation on climate change mitigation.

The objective of the study was to evaluate the effect of technological alternatives in the mitigation of climate change in the breeding of alpacas over 4,000 meters above sea level. The validation study was conducted in 06 farming communities of two agroecological zones of the Puno region. The variables under study were weight at birth, weight at weaning, weight of fleece, pregnancy and mortality percentage, during 2014 in which no technological alternatives were applied, while in 2015 and 2016 this set was applied of alternatives. The data were analyzed in a completely randomized design using the SAS statistical software version 9.4. Hydrometeorological data from the Rontoccocha Ecohydrological Monitoring System and the Soil and Water Assessment Tool hydrological model were used. The results show that climate change has a more significant impact on water resources (up to 26% increase in mean annual runoff) than land use change (up to 1%). However, when combining both factors, the effects depend on the magnitude and dynamics with which each scenario influences hydrological processes. We find that MERESE has a high potential under changing conditions, since, through afforestation practices, it can increase groundwater (GWQ; 10–20%) and reduce surface runoff (SURQ; 10–60%). Smallholder agriculture in the Central Andes of Peru is based to large extent on rainfed cropping systems, is exposed to climatic risks and is expected to respond sensitively to increasing temperatures and shifts in the precipitation regime. Here, we examine the potential implications of early twenty-first century climate change scenarios for the cultivation of potato, maize, wheat, barley and broad bean, five annual crops that account for 50 % of the cultivated area in the Department of Cusco and Apurı´mac and provide the dietary backbone for a large share of the local population.
