Debris flows are geophysical phenomena, caused by torrential rain, which occur in mountainous areas, characterized by the detachment of slope and riverbed materials and their consequent dislodge through watersheds and streams. Debris flows usually carry sludge, water and rocks, and can destroy everything in their path. On February 8th, 2019, an event of this type occurred and destroyed Mirave’s community in Peru, which was located in the areas of transport and deposition of debris flows. This research presents the modeling and numerical simulation to reproduce the transport and deposition processes of the debris flow that occurred in Mirave. The initiation process of the debris flow in streams was represented by hydrographs obtained from the estimated rain runoff volumes and solid materials found at each evaluated micro watershed. The numerical simulation results show acceptable result...

Currently, textile processing plants need to control the conditions associated with the spinning process, being the air conditioning of working environments an important factor in the quality and productivity of these processes. The benefits obtained from the optimization of this air conditioning help to guide a lower energy consumption, helping to improve the positioning of the products and providing profitability in the operation processes. Due to the advantages obtained in the air conditioning process, this work proposes a system that allows reusing the residual energy generated at the outlet of the ventilation ducts. This residual energy is fed into the plant to reduce the high temperatures observed in the ceiling. Consequently, this approach will generate a decrease in the service demand of the air conditioning system and reduce operating costs. Also, to verify this proposal, a mult...

Technologies are currently being developed for the treatment of acid mine drains (DAM), rock drainage (ARD) and other industrial effluents, which are causing water and soil contamination. Natural acid drainage is one of the foci of environmental contamination in national watersheds and for this reason it is necessary to search for the appropriate technologies to reduce it to suitable environmental conditions. Environmentally sound technologies protect the environment, are less polluting, use all resources more sustainably, recycle a larger portion of their waste and products, and treat waste more acceptably than the technologies they have come to replace. In the present work we show the experimental study of acid rock tests in percolation columns, in which we try to reproduce what happens in the Peruvian mines, this leads us to simulate the main variables that are involved: feed flows an...

The present work proposes an analysis of the internal temperature flow in two types of helical coils, whose number of turns is 6 and 10, for the sugar cane bagasse delignification process, using superheated steam as a heat source. The analysis seeks to find the ideal number of turns for the process, the inlet pressure, and the temperature range in which the coil should operate to provide the working temperature for the reaction. This proposal will be carried out using Ansys fluent version 19.2 educational simulation software, where the coils were designed and the temperature and pressure parameters of the superheated steam flow to travel through the internal part of the helical coil were introduced. As a result, with a number of coils of 10 and an inlet pressure of 0.4 MPa, an efficiency of 96.545% was achieved to maintain the temperature along the coil path. This allows its application ...

Agriculture is one of the most important economic activities in Peru. Furthermore, the Peruvian mango is the most important fruit as an export product on the European market due to its good quality. Three varieties of mango are cultivated in Peru: Haden, Kent and Tommy Atkins, each of them presents different characteristics; however, the production of this fruit is affected because manual processes are still used for its production, which generates a delay in the process due to the inaccuracy of the labour. The present study aims to develop the simulation of an automated grading system for Peruvian mangoes based on computer vision. On the other hand, to establish the process development, the transfer learning principle was analysed and a flow diagram of the system was made. The simulation of the system environment was obtained through the Factory IO software, together with the image proc...

Since 1960, a higher percentage of aquatic foods have been allocated for human consumption. In 2020, 89% of global fishery and aquaculture production was dedicated to this purpose. With the increasing demand in the industry, there has also been a development of quality and food safety standards. Therefore, the food preservation technique of refrigeration becomes essential to prevent input losses and maintain quality. This leads to the need for appropriate technology for the freezing process of aquatic foods on vessels. In this research, the study and consequently, the design of a swirl effect atomizer using tools based on mathematical models and complemented with numerical simulation (Ansys CFD: Computational Fluid Dynamics) is proposed. This cryogenic atomizer, in conjunction with another water atomizer, would produce ice in the form of tiny particles. This would increase the efficiency...

Debris flows are one of the processes of mass movements that are generated by heavy rains and are activated in the upper parts of the basins. The application case of the present research carried out in the Rio Seco stream in the district of San Bartolomé, located in the Province of Huarochirí, Department of Lima seeks to recreate a debris flow event that occurred on February 2, 2017 as a result of the climatic phenomenon in the Lima Andes. Likewise, it seeks to identify the areas of debris flow threats for different return periods Tr = 100 and Tr = 500 years. For this investigation, the mathematical model is applied using the FLO-2D software, which will process topographic data, rheological properties of the debris fluid and liquid hydrographs in different return periods. Finally, processing the data, results such as flow depth, maximum flow velocities of possible deposition zones, sed...

Original abstract: This paper studies the lake dynamics for avalanche-triggered glacial lake outburst floods (GLOFs) in the Cordillera Blanca mountain range in Ancash, Peru. As new glacial lakes emerge and existing lakes continue to grow, they pose an increasing threat of GLOFs that can be catastrophic to the communities living downstream. In this work, the dynamics of displacement waves produced from avalanches are studied through three-dimensional hydrodynamic simulations of Lake Palcacocha, Peru, with an emphasis on the sensitivity of the lake model to input parameters and boundary conditions. This type of avalanche-generated wave is an important link in the GLOF process chain because there is a high potential for overtopping and erosion of the lake-damming moraine. The lake model was evaluated for sensitivity to turbulence model and grid resolution, and the uncertainty due to these m...
