This study focuses on the design of a converging variable section stepped spillway using three-dimensional numerical modeling with the objective of finding the optimal hydrodynamic sizing and efficient hydraulic load dissipation in stepped spillways, for which different alternatives were evaluated from a constant section spillway and the hydraulic parameters were compared to determine the appropriate hydraulic operation. The results show that the contraction of the downstream section allows for additional energy dissipation, which is important for improving the hydraulic performance of stepped spillways. The models were calibrated with the laboratory experiment conducted by Arosquipa et al. (2022). These findings open the door for future research and improvements in the design of converging stepped spillways, which is crucial in water resource management in hydraulic projects, especially...

In this research work, the analysis and selection of the optimal type of the Toma Grande Dam is applied by using the analytical hierarchical process (AHP), considering 4 dam alternatives (CFRD, RCC, Gravity Concrete, Earth and Enrocado). For the application of the method, the factors that influence the selection of the type of dam were identified, which were called Subcriteria. These were grouped into 8 more representative groups, by means of a hierarchy tree, which were called Criteria (topography and geology, availability of materials, related works, dam safety, river diversion system, construction procedure, construction time and cost of work). The data for the Criteria were obtained from the basic engineering studies and a paired comparison matrix was constructed to obtain the weightings by comparing each of the Criteria with each other. The consistency relationship of the selection ...

Debris flows are geophysical phenomena, caused by torrential rain, which occur in mountainous areas, characterized by the detachment of slope and riverbed materials and their consequent dislodge through watersheds and streams. Debris flows usually carry sludge, water and rocks, and can destroy everything in their path. On February 8th, 2019, an event of this type occurred and destroyed Mirave’s community in Peru, which was located in the areas of transport and deposition of debris flows. This research presents the modeling and numerical simulation to reproduce the transport and deposition processes of the debris flow that occurred in Mirave. The initiation process of the debris flow in streams was represented by hydrographs obtained from the estimated rain runoff volumes and solid materials found at each evaluated micro watershed. The numerical simulation results show acceptable result...
