Academic self-efficacy is a powerful predictor of academic success, yet there are several factors that predispose it. Because of this, an explanatory model is proposed using the self-regulation of academic activities, positive affection, and personality. Hierarchical multiple linear regression was used to support the predictive proposal of the model. The Specific Perceived Self-Efficacy Scale of Academic Situations, The Scale of Positive and Negative Experience, Subscale Self-Regulation of Activities of the Academic Procrastination Scale, and Mini International Personality Item Pool (MINI-IPIP) were used. High correlations were obtained in the self-regulation of activities, positive affection, and personality (extraversion, concientousness and openness to experience) to academic self-efficacy. The final predictive model explained 30.1% of the total variance of academic self-efficacy. In ...

Students in engineering tend to be loners, making interpersonal relationships and mental health issues more likely to arise. The COVID pandemic caused university students to experience anxi-ety and depression, which affected their academic performance and self-esteem. However, stu-dents’ mental health was rarely evaluated after the pandemic, especially engineering students, who showed higher levels of depression than students from other disciplines. The present study aims to establish an explanatory model of academic self-efficacy based on factors related to mental health, such as anxiety, depression, and negative emotions. The method used was quan-titative cross-sectional, and a structural equation modeling was used. A sample of 561 students (54.4% males and 45.6% females) was analyzed. Instruments to measure self-efficacy, negative affect, depression, and anxiety, previously validate...

Studying grit's measurement helps to understand this psychological phenomenon associated with success. Grit-S structures of one-factor and two-factor have been reported in the literature, but there is a lack of reports based on Item Response Theory (IRT). Therefore, two objectives were proposed: to determine the factorial structure of the Spanish version of the Grit-S and explore the instrument through a Multidimentional Item Response Theory (MIRT) analysis. A nonprobabilistic sample of 899 subjects (41.0% female) was evaluated. The 8 items grit scale was used. The Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) showed that the two-factor model obtained a good fit (CFI = 0.97, TLI = 0.95, RMSEA [90%CI] = 0.08 [0.07, 0.10]) unlike the one-dimensional model. An exploratory comparison analysis by MIRT also revealed that the two-factor model performed better (p < 0.001). Consequently, a confirmatory anal...

The situation that is lived worldwide has promoted virtual education, so that university tea- chers have been forced to adapt to this exclusive way of teaching, therefore, questions ari- se about the didactics, methodology and resources they use in this environment to get stu- dents to learn. Given this phenomenon, the objective of the present study was to find out the predominant teaching styles among university teachers in a private institution in Lima. The methodology was descriptive of a quantitative approach and the sample was made up of 114 teachers from the Hospitality and Tourism faculty of the mentioned institution. The re- sults obtained determined that the prevailing teaching style is functional, followed by formal and structural. These styles are related to the academic knowledge of university teaching.

Attitude towards the environment is an indicator of environmental behavior and is manifested in the action and pro-environmental regulations. The purpose of this study was to know the relationship between behavior and responsible environmental attitude in university students in Lima, Peru. The approach was quantitative, with a descriptive-correlational design, and the sample consisted of 287 male and female students from different careers. The instruments used were two scales that measure the environmental attitude: perception of environmental problems, perception of reasons for environmental problems; intention of pro-environmental behaviors and, types of environmental concerns; the same ones that independently evaluate the attitude and proambiental behavior. The positive relationship between responsible environmental behavior and attitude was determined, as well as between the componen...

Introduction: In Peru, a high proportion of fully immunized people against COVID-19 has been achieved, which has mitigated the severity of the disease. Thus, under the recommendation of experts, the Peruvian government issued Supreme Decree 118-2022-PCM, which indicated that the use of masks is optional in open and ventilated enclosed spaces as of October 1, 2022. Objective: The aim of the present study was to find out the reasons why people continued to wear masks even though it was not mandatory in outdoor environments. Methods: A total of 335 people participated, with an average age of 26.11 years (73.1% women). A data collection form was prepared where sociodemographic and health information was requested; in addition, the question "Why do you continue to wear mask despite it being optional in open and closed ventilated spaces?" was included. The data obtained from the last open ques...

Introduction: Worldwide, anxiety and depression are the most common mental disorders, both in clinical settings and in the general population. The Patient Health Questionnaire-4 is the most widely used open access instrument to assess anxiety and depression in both clinical and community settings. Objective: The study aims to evaluate the psychometric evidence of the Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-4). Method: 1015 Peruvian individuals between 18 and 69 years old (M=26.4, SD=9.93, 58.6% women) who experienced the death of a loved one participated. Techniques derived from Classical Test Theory and Item Response Theory (IRT) were used. Results: Three models were tested: one-dimensional (CFI = 0.989; TLI = 0.966; RMSEA = 0.075), the two-factor model (CFI = 1.000; TLI = 1.000; RMSEA = 0.000) and the bifactor model which did not converge. The two-factor model was the one that came closest t...

This study aimed to evaluate the psychometric properties of the Grief Impairment Scale (GIS) using a network psychometric model. A total of 1048 individuals from Peru and El Salvador participated. A network psychometric model was used to determine internal structure, reliability, and cross-country invariance. The results indicate that the GIS items were grouped into a single network structure through Exploratory Graph Analysis. Reliability was estimated by structural consistency, and it was found that when replicating the network structure within an empirical dimension, a single network structure was consistently obtained, and all items remained stable. Furthermore, the network structure was invariant, thus functioning similarly across the different country groups. In conclusion, the GIS presented solid psychometric evidence of validity based on its internal structure, reliability, and c...

The Grief Impairment Scale (GIS) is used to measure functional impairment due to grief following the death of a loved one. However, there is no information on its cross-cultural utility. Thus, this study assessed the measurement invariance of the GIS using a large sample of bereaved adults (N = 2060) from Peru, El Salvador, Ecuador, and Colombia. Specifically, we employed two measurement invariance techniques: multi-group confirmatory factor analysis (MG-CFA) and the alignment optimization method. The results indicated that the GIS demonstrated configural and metric invariance, but not scalar invariance through MG-CFA. The alignment optimization method indicated the presence of an approximate invariance. Therefore, the results suggest that the GIS measures grief-related impairment similarly across the four Latin American countries. Among the countries examined, Peru reported the highest ...
