The developmental rates of learning of 20 young children with autistic spectrum disorders were measured with a battery of learning, language, and adaptive behavior measures upon entry and exit from an early intervention program. These children received between 3 and 10 hours this highly structured program utilizing discrete trial teaching strategy. These final data support the hypothesis that behaviorally based early intervention can have an impact on developmental rates of learning of these young children with autism, that is both statistically and clinically significant.

the purpose of this research study was to determine whether implementing a motivation program could lead to a reduction in the rate of occupational accidents in the bakery plant of a manufacturing company based in Lima. The study followed a quasi-experimental approach and used a pretest/posttest design with a single group and a sample of 117 workers. The data collection methods included statistical data on work-related accidents, direct observations in the workplace, recording and monitoring of interactions, and a motivation questionnaire. The research results revealed that implementing the IPLEFOR motivation program—which spanned 21 months—led to a 100% reduction in the accident rate. Consequently, it led to a significant improvement in the occupational health and safety system.

Introduction: The World Health Organization (WHO) currently considers obesity as the most important 21st century epidemics, affecting every population group, and, alarmingly enough, it is affecting boys and girls. There are no official numbers in Peru with respect to this situation, but some studies reported rates of being overweight and obese as high as 10,0% and 5,6%, respectively. Objective: To improve health conditions in overweight/obese students in Barrick-Pierina mining company school, with an educational intervention promoting health lifestyles, promoting the ingestion of a balanced diet and increased physical activity. At the end, changes were measured using the body mass index (BMI), and they were compared with the expected percentiles.Material and method: Design: A single sample intervention. The dependent variable (BMI) was longitudinally followed up between May...

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is an additional slow-evolving pandemic that precedes the COVID-19 pandemic and will continue when it ends. However, in countries such as Peru where there is high consumption and inadequate prescription of antibiotics, a more challenging future scenario can be expected. Antimicrobial Stewardship Programs (ASP) are multidisciplinary teams of professionals that aim to contain the emergence of multidrug-resistant organisms through strategies such as audit of antibiotic prescription or creating antibiotic treatment guidelines based on local AMR rates. The difficulty in the timely diagnosis of co-infections or superinfections in the clinical course of COVID-19 leads to inappropriate use of antibiotics, forcing ASP to adapt their strategies in this changing scenario. In Latin America, ASP not only has to promote behavior change in antibiotic prescribers but also ...

In rural areas of the Loreto region within the Peruvian Amazon, maternal mortality rate is above the national average and the majority of women deliver at home without care from a trained health care provider. To develop community-tailored videos that could be used for future interventions, we conducted Photovoice and digital storytelling workshops with community health workers (CHW) and mothers from 13 rural communities in the Parinari district.

Introduction: High rates in anthropometric parameters such as excess weight, body fat, visceral fat, hypertension generate serious problems that affect the health of the general population. Objective: To identify the effects produced by the intervention program "integral diet and physical exercise" on anthropometric parameters and blood pressure in a community in Salvador de Bahia. Methodology: Experimental intervention study lasting 40 days in which 31 adults participated, carried out in a neighborhood of the municipality of Salvador (Bahia), Brazil. The study consisted of administering a comprehensive diet based on whole grains, oilseeds, legumes, fruits, vegetables and total abstinence from foods of animal origin, refined, industrialized flours, sugar, following the "Healthy Plate" and Physical Exercise model. Results: The participants who followed the program...

The reason for understanding the evolution of the real exchange rate lies in the central importance of this variable to the country's development, especially in the growth of the tradable sector.   This research analyzes the development of the real exchange rate under the 1990-94 Peruvian Stabilization Program from a dynamic econometric perspective. The resulting model is subjected to a series of tests.   The overall evidence supports the argument that the real exchange rate rejects the hypothesis of the Purchasing Power Parity theory (PPP), in the short, as well as long terms. Therefore, it is wrong to use the PPP to explain the evolution of the real exchange rate. This fact increases the need to find a universally valid alternative theoretical approach.   The results in the long run show that the behavior of the differential between domestic interest rates and foreign rates in dolla...

The implementation of the intervention method reduces the accident rate in the AESA mining contractor and contributes to the creation of a safety culture in both the worker and the company. Security has been improved in many aspects. Now, there are security norms, procedures, formats, standards, security methodologies based on the behavior of people, incidents and other events generated by nature and rock. There are also immediate response programs for emergencies that arise. The influence of the intervention method in reducing the accident rate has been highly positive since workers have been informed and trained in safety issues by implementing this method; The safety culture has improved, since now 87.5% of the participants know what job safety is, staff turnover has improved considerably since workers previously did not know the benefits of having life insurance, to stay safer in the...

Prostate, breast, colorectal, cervical, and lung cancers are the leading cause of cancer in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) accounting for nearly 50% of cancer cases and cancer deaths in the region. Following the IARC Code Against Cancer methodology, a group of Latin American experts evaluated the evidence on several medical interventions to reduce cancer incidence and mortality considering the cancer burden in the region. A recommendation to limit the use of HRT was issued based on the risk associated to develop breast, endometrial, and ovarian cancer and on growing concerns related to the over-the-counter and without prescription sales, which in turn bias estimations on current use in LAC. In alignment with WHO breast and cervical cancer initiatives, biennial screening by clinical breast examination (performed by trained health professionals) from the age of 40 years and biennial...

We designed and tested the feasibility of the Smoking Cessation Training Program for Oncology Practice (STOP), a hybrid (face-to-face plus web-based) educational intervention to enhance Spanish-speaking cancer care professionals’ (CCPs’) ability to provide brief smoking prevention and cessation counseling to cancer patients and survivors. Changes in the CCPs’ competencies (knowledge, attitude, self-efficacy, and practices toward smoking and smoking cessation services) were assessed post-training. Sixty CCPs from one major cancer center in Colombia (n = 30) and Peru (n = 30) were invited to participate in a 4-module hybrid training program on smoking prevention and cessation. Demographic and pre- and post-test evaluation data were collected. The training’s acceptability was measured after each module. Bivariate analysis was conducted using Wilcoxon signed-rank test to compare the ...
