The effect of carboxymethylation and NH4I incorporation on the molecular dynamics of carrageenan films was studied. Broadband Dielectric Spectroscopy (BDS) assessed the presence of α and β relaxation processes. The effect of NH4I content was analyzed using the Havriliak-Negami model and parameterizing the temperature dependence of the relaxation times according to the Vogel-Fulcher-Tammann-Hesse (VFTH) equation. The glass transition temperature was found to decrease with the increase of NH4I content. These results suggest that carboxymethylation and the salt doping treatment increase the molecular mobility of NH4+ ions, making the films suitable for the development of solid electrolytes for energy storage applications. © 2018, © 2018 Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.

The experiment was carried out at the laboratory scale. For this purpose a system with 6 mini reactors was designed, adapted from the literature. The used equations were deduced from the Eckenfelder (1970) and Metcalf & Eddy (1998) proceedings. The kinetics constants of biological growth at laboratory level were obtained using the activated sludge method. The obtained kinetic constants with synthetic wastewater were: a: 0,8763 (Parameter of oxygen utilization to substrate oxidation). b: 0,0744 (Parameter of oxygen utilization to substrate oxidation in the endogenous respiration). El péndulo es un experimento clásico, de enorme valor pedagógico, fácil de realizar y proporciona datos con equipo muy simple. En el presente trabajo se propone la utilización de una cámara digital en un experimento de laboratorio para determinar la ecuación de movimiento de un péndulo simple amortiguado. La frecuencia angular natural y coeficiente de amortiguamiento son y ωo = 4,6889 rad/s y γ = 0,0018 s-1, respectivamente. Como parámetro de control se utilizó la aceleración de la gravedad, la que resultó de 9,77 m/s2, en excelente concordancia con la reportada en la literatura especializada, que para el caso de Trujillo, es 9,78 m/s2. Los últimos estudios epidemiológicos demostraron que las enfermedades ateroscleróticas (accidentes o desórdenes cerebro-vasculares e infarto de miocardio) están asociadas a niveles altos de fibrinógeno. El presente estudio se propone determinar los niveles de fibrinógeno en los pacientes con accidente cerebrovascular de tipo isquémico, y si constituyen un factor de riesgo en la incidencia de esta enfermedad. En nuestro trabajo se encontró que los niveles plasmáticos de fibrinógeno en los pacientes con DCV isquémicos fueron elevados, con un valor medio de 618.30 mg/dl, y el riesgo relativo fue de 7.34; este riesgo se incrementa cuando está asociado a otros factores como la hipertensión arterial, diabetes mellitus e hipercolesterolemia. Microorganisms living under stress conditions, such as acidophilic environments, usually respond by synthesizing compounds with important biological activities. The cytotoxic and antibacterial activities against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) of ten strains of Streptomyces isolated from mineral ores of Peru were evaluated. Streptomyces variabilis F and S. variabilis X were more active than vancomycin against MSRA (MIC= 0.5, 0.5 and 1.0 µg/mL, respectively). Streptomyces sp. 6c, S. albidoflavus Ya4, S. champavatii Frep13 and Streptomyces sp. F1 showed selective cytotoxic activity against human adenocarcinoma of the duodenum (HuTu80) and human lung large cell carcinoma (H460). The extracts of Streptomyces sp. The volatiles were characterised by headspace solid phase micro extraction (HS-SPME), gas chromatography mass spectrometry (GC-FID/MS). A total of 127 compounds were identified with terpenes, esters and hydrocarbons were the predominant volatile compounds. Principal component analysis (PCA) of the volatile compounds yielded 2 significant PC's, and the scatter plot generated between PC1 and PC2 successfully segregated the 50 chili pepper samples into 7 groups. Clusters of hydrocarbons, esters, terpenes, aldehyde and ketones formed the major determinants of the difference.

Kañihua (Chenopodium pallidicaule Aellen, Chenopodiaceae) is a native plant from the highlands of Peru and Bolivia that is characterized by its high nutritional value. It is considered a species of great genetic diversity and in this study we evaluated the nutritional characteristics, fatty acids profile, antioxidant compounds and antioxidant activities of three kañihua ecotypes from Peru named “Chilliwa” (light grey seeds), “Planta púrpura” (light orange seeds) and “Red kañiwa Condorsaya” (red seeds).

Background Schizophrenia is a severe mental disorder that affects approximately 1% of the population. The main symptom is psychosis in which thought and emotions are impaired. Current pharmacological treatments for schizophrenia are partially effective and its long term intake causes side effects. Mujer de 70 años de edad, sin antecedentes de importancia. Acude al centro de Endoscopía Digestiva del servicio de Gastroenterología del Hospital Nacional “Arzobispo Loayza” donde se le practica Endoscopia alta, indicada por presentar Síndrome Doloroso abdominal. La endoscopia alta concluye como presencia de lesión en relación a Cáncer gástrico precoz tipo IIa+IIc que se confirma con la patología. Se realiza tratamiento endoscópico mediante Disección endoscópica sub-mucosa (DES) usando el IT-Knife2, lográndose extirpar la lesión en su totalidad conforme confirma el estudio de pieza resecada. Control endoscópico a las 10 semanas muestra cicatriz roja y la biopsia negativa para neoplasia. Se reporta este caso por ser el primero publicado en nuestro medio en el que se usó DES curativa.

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is an additional slow-evolving pandemic that precedes the COVID-19 pandemic and will continue when it ends. However, in countries such as Peru where there is high consumption and inadequate prescription of antibiotics, a more challenging future scenario can be expected. Antimicrobial Stewardship Programs (ASP) are multidisciplinary teams of professionals that aim to contain the emergence of multidrug-resistant organisms through strategies such as audit of antibiotic prescription or creating antibiotic treatment guidelines based on local AMR rates. The difficulty in the timely diagnosis of co-infections or superinfections in the clinical course of COVID-19 leads to inappropriate use of antibiotics, forcing ASP to adapt their strategies in this changing scenario. The eruption of the Hunga Tonga Hunga Ha’apai volcano on 15 January 2022 significantly impacted the lower and upper atmosphere globally. Using multi-instrument observations, we described disturbances from the sea surface to the ionosphere associated with atmospheric waves generated by the volcanic eruption. Perturbations were detected in atmospheric pressure, horizontal magnetic field, equatorial electrojet (EEJ), ionospheric plasma drifts, total electron content (TEC), mesospheric and lower thermospheric (MLT) neutral winds, and ionospheric virtual height measured at low magnetic latitudes in the western South American sector (mainly in Peru).
