The aim of this research was to evaluate the genetic variability of a population of domestic pigs (Sus scrofa domestica) in Sampués, Sucre, Colombia to determine their genetic status. Fifty samples were studied. Twenty microsatellites were used where five of them were from the list of those recommended by FAO/ISAG for studies of swine biodiversity and the remaining represent most of the pig genome. The microsatellites used were polymorphic, detecting between 3 (SW2019) to 14 (SW957) alleles with an average 6 and a total of 120. The mean expected heterozygosity was 0.5465 and the mean observed heterozygosity was 0.5203. The polymorphism information content (PIC) ranged between 0.2823 and 0.7252 for SW1041 and SW957 loci respectively. The results showed that the studied population as a group with a high degree of genetic diversity.

The volatiles were characterised by headspace solid phase micro extraction (HS-SPME), gas chromatography mass spectrometry (GC-FID/MS). A total of 127 compounds were identified with terpenes, esters and hydrocarbons were the predominant volatile compounds. Principal component analysis (PCA) of the volatile compounds yielded 2 significant PC's, and the scatter plot generated between PC1 and PC2 successfully segregated the 50 chili pepper samples into 7 groups. Clusters of hydrocarbons, esters, terpenes, aldehyde and ketones formed the major determinants of the difference.

The amount of solar energy absorbed by plants is largely a function of the foliar concentration of photosynthetic pigments. Consequently, low concentrations of chlorophyll can directly limit the photosynthetic potential and thus the primary production of plants. This study describes a non[1]destructive method aiming to estimate the chlorophyll concentrations on potato leaves from the cultivars SA–2563, Pumamaqui and Purranca. This method is based on the interaction between light and vegetation and uses the first derivative of spectral reflectance from the crop canopy. For reference, we used the SPAD units obtained with a previously validated SPAD–502 chlorophyll meter. We found correlations greater than 90% between the amplitudes of signals obtained by deriving the spectral reflectance of leaves at wavelength about 720 nm and the chlorophyll concentrations obtained by the SPAD–502....

This study was performed to investigate the role of dysglycemia on the genetic diversity of Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB) among pulmonary tuberculosis (TB) patients to build scientific evidence about the possible mechanisms of TB transmission. MTB isolates obtained of patients affected by pulmonary tuberculosis from health care facilities of North Lima—Peru, were analyzed using whole genome sequencing and 24-locus mycobacterial interspersed repetitive-unit -variable-number tandem repeats (MIRU-VNTR). Subsequently, clinical and epidemiological characteristics were associated with clustering, lineages and comorbid conditions. The analysis carried out 112 pulmonary TB patients from various health centers in North Lima, 17 (15%) had diabetes mellitus (DM) and 33 (29%) had prediabetes (PDM). Latin American-Mediterranean, Haarlem and Beijing were the most frequent MTB lineages found in th...
