A 22 years old male was referred to emergency for a gunshot trauma that involves the inferior third of the face with extension to the both submandibular and submental regions. The patient presented at the inferior half of the mandible, bodies and symphysis, a comminuted mandible fracture and two displaced fractures at the upper half of the mandible; though no teeth were missing. He underwent at emergency an open reduction and osteosynthesis with wires. A polyetheretherketone (PEEK) computer designed implant was placed to replace the lost bone tissue and restore the facial aesthetics. The PEEK implant is actually a new, simple and versatile method for complex mandibular reconstructions.

The development of computational thinking as a cognitive skill is essential in this digital age; however, there is still no standard on how to define computational thinking or how to measure it. Therefore, the aim of the research is to develop an instrument that allows the estimation of the level of computational thinking using an evidence-centered design approach. The proposed approach combines cognitive theory, educational research and psychometric modelling to design a comprehensive and reliable assessment framework. The test includes two scenarios with a total of 59 items divided into 6 questions. It was validated by academics related to the scientific field, obtaining a final score of 0.76 as a content validity index. The test was administered to a sample of 100 students from 3 secondary schools in Lima, Peru, and analyzed using Bayesian confirmatory factor analysis and parametric t...

Currently, there is a wide use of fiberglass post. However, they have the disadvantage that their shape can not be changed and are inadequate for cases of teeth with extensive coronal destruction and wide root canals. This case report describes the use of a fiberglass post and core manufactured with a CAD / CAM system to restore a lower premolar tooth treated endodontically. This CAD / CAM fiberglass post adapts better to the root canal than a prefabricated post, without the need to use composite resin for the stump and reduces the thickness of the cement layer.

Methylmercury (MeHg+) is a mercury species that is very toxic for humans, and its monitoring and sorption from environmental samples of water are a public health concern. In this work, a combination of theory and experiment was used to rationally synthesize an ion-imprinted polymer (IIP) with the aim of the extraction of MeHg+ from samples of water. Interactions among MeHg+ and possible reaction components in the pre-polymerization stage were studied by computational simulation using density functional theory. Accordingly, 2-mercaptobenzimidazole (MBI) and 2-mercaptobenzothiazole (MBT), acrylic acid (AA) and ethanol were predicted as excellent sulfhydryl ligands, a functional monomer and porogenic solvent, respectively. Characterization studies by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET) revealed the obtention of porous materials with specific surface areas...
