We investigate the unintended impacts of exiting Peru’s Cuna Más public childcare program on child and maternal health. With increased public childcare use in developing countries, understanding the effects of program exit is critical. We use Cuna Más’ strict age-based graduation rule to identify causal impacts, leveraging comprehensive data from the Demographic and Family Health Survey for the period 2015-2019. Our results suggest that mothers prioritize their children’s health over their own upon program exit. While maternal mental health shows a notable decline, children’s health remains unaffected. These results have important policy implications, highlighting the need for post-program transitional support to mitigate hidden costs for mothers and enhance the positive outcomes children gain during program participation.

The purpose of this study was to test the effectiveness of a program based on collaborative digital tools to enhance the academic performance of students of the Early Childhood Education career at an Ecuadorian university during 2025. The research is framed in the use of digital technologies in education, contributing to the fulfillment of Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG 4), aimed at guaranteeing equitable access to innovative pedagogical resources and the development of competencies of the 21st century. A longitudinal quasi experimental design with a quantitative approach was applied, forming an experimental group and a control group in a sample of 140 students. The variables analyzed were cognitive, attitudinal and procedural performance, evaluated by survey. The findings showed that, after the intervention, 85.7% of the participants in the experimental group achieved a high level ...

In Peru, the COVID-19 pandemic has had an impact on various dimensions of human and national development. While it is true that children have not been affected in terms of mortality, there is evidence of a negative impact on their development in the short and long term. In this sense, in Peru, timely and quality care through access to the integrated package of services of the Ministry of Health was severely affected, reducing its coverage and generating risk scenarios for the physical, emotional and mental development of children in the future. In this context, the State promoted temporary interventions through Emergency Decree 095-2020, includin interventions aimed at early childhood development through the National Program of Direct Support to the Poorest “JUNTOS”. This article aims to examine the implementation of these interventions by “JUNTOS”, analyze the challenges and res...

Prostate, breast, colorectal, cervical, and lung cancers are the leading cause of cancer in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) accounting for nearly 50% of cancer cases and cancer deaths in the region. Following the IARC Code Against Cancer methodology, a group of Latin American experts evaluated the evidence on several medical interventions to reduce cancer incidence and mortality considering the cancer burden in the region. A recommendation to limit the use of HRT was issued based on the risk associated to develop breast, endometrial, and ovarian cancer and on growing concerns related to the over-the-counter and without prescription sales, which in turn bias estimations on current use in LAC. In alignment with WHO breast and cervical cancer initiatives, biennial screening by clinical breast examination (performed by trained health professionals) from the age of 40 years and biennial...

The article analyzes the importance of early care in child development, guiding a neuropsychological perspective of development. The early care model seeks to refer to the set of interventions aimed at children and their work in conjunction with a multidisciplinary team. It presents recommendations for the implementation of programs that allow early intervention in the early years, so that the process of care for the affected children can be optimized by the different early developmental and learning alterations.

Introduction: The prevalence of cardiovascular risk factors such as overweight, dyslipidemia, hypertension (HTN) and diabetes mellitus (DM2) has increased in recent decades, so there are multiple programs to reduce this prevalence. Objective: To evaluate the early effect of a program aimed at reducing cardiovascular risk factors in secondary education teachers. Methods: An intervention study was carried out based on the application of physical exercises and nutritional education workshops once a week for three consecutive months. General data were recorded and the lipid profile, glucose, blood pressure and body composition were quantified by using the bioimpedance balance, at the beginning of the intervention and 3 months later in the intervention group and the control group. To evaluate the effect of the program, the averages were compared and the level of significance was defined at 0....

This review compiles the information related to implementing research hotbeds as formative research strategies regarding higher university education. A systematic review-type study was designed. Methodologically, the databases Scopus, Web of Science, SciELO, Redalyc, MEDLINE (PubMed), ERIC and academic Google were investigated, using the terms: "Research hotbeds", "programs", "research skills" and "undergraduate student". Of the 235 sources initially searched, 22 references were analyzed (17 original articles and 5 theses). The information was analyzed according to the categories of place of publication, objectives, methods and results found. Studies were found with the qualitative approach (68.2%), others the quantitative approach (27.3%) and others a mixed approach (4.5%). Implementing a seedbed has a positive influence on the enhancement of research capabilities, achieving greater mot...

In this article, we provide an impact evaluation of an intervention in Peru regarding preparedness for El Niño impacts in Picsi District of Chiclayo Province in Peru’s northwestern coastal Lambayeque region. This effort involved the provision of special kits that reduce the potential damage to homes as a consequence of rainfall and floods associated with an El Nin˜o-Southern Oscillation event. Information was collected in 2016 when this Forecast-based Financing early action was activated by an El Niño forecast, and after a coastal El Niño actually struck in 2017. This dual database permits us to estimate the impact of the intervention on the damage level of homes by comparing those homes supported by the program with those homes not receiving pilot-program support. This comparison is achieved by using propensity score matching techniques, which identify the most comparable homes to...

This article is based on applied research aimed at determining the effectiveness of the role-play program “Together is Better” in developing basic social skills in four-year-old children at an educational institution in Chiclayo. A quantitative approach with a pre-experimental design (pre-test–intervention–post-test) was used. The sample, selected for convenience, consisted of 27 students. The dependent variable (basic social skills) was assessed using an observation guide based on the Social Interaction Skills Questionnaire (CHIS), validated by expert judgment (V de Aiken = 1.00) and with adequate reliability (α = 0.837). The initial results showed a predominance of the basic level; after the application of 12 role-play workshops (spontaneous, guided, with materials, in small groups, and with conflict resolution), 77.78% reached the intermediate level and 22.22% reached the adv...
