Objective: To identify the competencies declared in the graduate profiles of Dentistry and Stomatology programs in Peru. Materials and methods: A descriptive, cross-sectional, observational study was conducted. The study population comprised Dentistry and Stomatology programs listed in TUNI, the official platform of the National Superintendency of Higher University Education (SUNEDU). Programs with no publicly available graduate profile information on their institutional websites were excluded. Competencies were extracted, categorized, and systematized based on reference frameworks from the Peruvian Dental Association and the Ministry of Health. Results: The most frequent competencies in the graduate profiles were clinical and research-related (85.19%; n = 23), followed by ethical-moral competencies (70.37%; n = 19). Empathy was the least frequently reported competency (11.11%; n = 3). C...

The educational process has to manage the demand to meet all modern requirements for educational activities, which cannot be realized without proper formation of information and communication competence of teachers. The aim of this study is to identify the modern condition of formation and practice of information and communication competence of teachers in the paradigm of Ukrainian educational realities. Our task is to compare them with the practice of leading European countries and predicted directions of education-2030 with a focus on improving digital competencies of a teacher as an organizer of educational activities. A prominent place in the process of increasing the information and communication competence of teachers is occupied by the appropriate conditions for creating an information and communication environment for the formation of the future teacher of higher education instit...

Objectives. To know the levels of child development and explore its relationship with socioeconomic status and maternal education. Methods. Quantitative – exploratory study done between March and August 2013. The study include information about 5859 children of 1- 24 months at the interview and their 5723 mothers (or primary caregiver), from 5620 rural homes. We applied an adapted version of Age and Stages Questionnaire ASQ-3 and a socio-demographic questionnaire. Results. Scores in the scales of communication and fine motor showed that, as age is higher, the gap in the results of the scales increases. In general, children less poor quartile in the sample obtain higher scores than children from the poorest to the five dimensions evaluated quartile. On the other hand, there are differences in the five scales and the total score between the scores achieved by children with mothers more a...

Plagiarism is a serious, yet widespread type of research misconduct, and is often neglected in developing countries. Despite its far-reaching implications, plagiarism is poorly acknowledged and discussed in the academic setting, and insufficient evidence exists in Latin America and developing countries to inform the development of preventive strategies. In this context, we present a longitudinal case study of seven instances of plagiarism and cheating arising in four consecutive classes (2011–2014) of an Epidemiology Masters’ program in Lima, Peru, and describe the implementation and outcomes of a multifaceted, “zero-tolerance” policy aimed at introducing research integrity. Two cases involved cheating in graded assignments, and five cases correspond to plagiarism in the thesis protocol. Cases revealed poor awareness and high tolerance to plagiarism, poor academic performance, an...

This descriptive and interpretative study accounts for results of representations regarding teaching profession which students of initial teaching training report in seven state chilean Higher Education institutions. This study arises from the updating of the national education quality assurance system in which the obligation to apply a diagnostic test is established. For such a purpose, the study population was composed by 1836 students from 2019 cohort of pedagogical programs from this national universities. A Likert - like scale instrument was applied. Numerical descriptive and inferential methods were applied to analyze the information. Generally concluding, common representations are revealed a professional performance regardless of the sex; it suggests that the evaluated subjects shape a clearly modeled professional identity before starting their Initial Teaching Training.

The teaching of human parasitology is essential for students of health sciences, especially medicine, because it is a major global public health problem―occurring with high frequency in low-income countries―and because of its presence in countries considered developed. In this sense, it is estimated that worldwide there are 2,800 million individuals infected with soil-transmitted helminths, 20 to 30% people infected with Toxoplasma gondii, 300 to 500 million new cases of malaria per year, and nearly 15 million Latin Americans with Chagas disease, an infection caused by Trypanosoma cruzi. This narrative review article analyzes information available in digital repositories on aspects of the traditional educational program of human or medical parasitology using descriptors or keywords closely related to the topic. The reviewed articles were mainly those published in peer-reviewed, index...

Telemedicine describes the electronic delivery of medical data for diagnosis, treatment and medical education to the patient at home through the use of information and communication technologies. In just a few weeks, the current global situation related to COVID-19 has generated unprecedented pressures on the health system and transformed the practice of palliative care. The National Center for Pain Control and Palliative Care's home visiting program adopted the teleconsultation modality in March 2020 and a pilot plan for evaluating telemonitoring technology was established. During the initial evaluation period between March and July 2020, a physician specializing in Palliative Medicine reviewed the vital signs within 24 hours of transmission and conducted a teleconsultation of the patient allowing analysis of the data received. A total of 14 patients were monitored for an average of 10....

Since 2012-2013 influenza season, World Health Organization (who) recommends the formulation of tetravalent vaccines. Globally, many countries already use tetravalent vaccines in their national immunization programs, while in Latin America only a small number. Two Influenza b lineages co-circulate, their epidemiological behavior is unpredictable. On average they represent 22.6% of influenza cases and more than 50% in predominant seasons. The lack of concordance between recommended and circulating strains was 25 and 32% in the 2010-2017 and 2000-2013 seasons, respectively. There are no clinical differences between influenza A and B. It occurs more frequently from five to 19 years of age. Influenza b has a higher proportion of attributable deaths than influenza a (1.1 vs. 0.4%), or 2.65 (95% ci 1.18-5.94). A greater number of hospitalizations when the strains mismatch (46.3 vs. 28.5%; p <....

It's well known that the duration of the engineering programs in Latin American countries like Peru are of order of 5 years, roughly. Commonly, the target of the fifth year of program is to carry out activities of thesis and capstone projects. Clearly these activities would demand that the student can exhibit skills and a certain level of maturity which might be crucial for a successful completion of the projects. However, the expected performance of the students might be correlated to the educational features of the institution (university, technological institute, etc) to some extent. In this manner, in this paper we try to measure the quality of education (QoE) of a Peruvian engineering program through the application of a mathematical methodology based on the individual score of students along the time where the projects take place. Furthermore, the error of the model is interpreted ...

Objective: The effects of an online prevention program on technological addictions and cognitive-affective dispositions in university students during the COVID-19 pandemic were evaluated. Methods: Forty-two students participated in the sample, of which 21 formed the experimental group (EG) and the other 21 students the control group (CG). Academic efficacy and academic engagement scales were used, as well as cell phone, internet and video game addiction tests. Results: The application of the program significantly reduced the internet addiction, cell phone and video games and at the same time significantly increased the positive assessment of academic engagement and academic efficacy; comparisons between the study groups (GE versus GC) according to the effect sizes (.30 < d >. 50) evidenced important practical differences in the internet addiction, cell phone and video games, for th...

In the process of educational quality, several higher education institutions have shown concern for the satisfaction of their students, in order to know their expectations and opinion of the various parameters of the study, development and improvement plans, according to the evaluation or self-assessment models. Th e present work was carried out with the purpose of knowing how satisfi ed students are with the Biology degree at Ricardo Palma University, Lima, Peru. Such as the sequence of courses, teaching methodology, basic and specialty training, content of subjects, teaching strategies, subject assessment, library use, learning and performance. A survey was designed and applied to 63 students from the 7th to the 9th academic year in the semester 2015-II, whose results are presented generally in the categories, level of percentage satisfaction index Th e analysis of the information dete...
