Leishmaniasis is a major public health problem due to the high morbidity and mortality that it has worldwide with a tendency to increase cases and spread of infection at diff erent latitudes. Besides, the number of chemotherapeutic agents is small, its toxicity is high and when its toxicity is reduced, bioavailability also reduces the success of vaccination strategies. It is here that the design of nanotechnology-based drug delivery systems turns out to be a promising strategy in the treatment of this parasite. Th e objective of this paper was to show relevant information on nanotechnology applied to the treatment of leishmaniasis as an innovative tool for the control of this disease. Th rough the review of scientific literature in databases based on descriptors or related keywords. Th e paper was structured in fi ve sections to facilitate reading and analysis: pharmacological treatment ...

The teaching of human parasitology is essential for students in health sciences, especially medicine, as it is an important public health problem with worldwide distribution. The study was a narrative review based on the search for information in Pubmed, Science Direct, Lilacs, Medline, Google academic and external sources with the descriptors: “pedagogy in parasitology”, “curriculum by competencies”, “curriculum of the parasitology”, and “teaching of parasitology”. This review article analyzes and describes the currently prevalent pedagogy for teaching it, and the characteristics of the competency curriculum that make its use as a training strategy feasible, with the purpose of contributing to the exploration of new ways of teaching parasitology and to overcome the difficulties and new challenges that must be faced in this fundamental field of medical sciences. It is con...

The teaching of human parasitology is essential for students of health sciences, especially medicine, because it is a major global public health problem―occurring with high frequency in low-income countries―and because of its presence in countries considered developed. In this sense, it is estimated that worldwide there are 2,800 million individuals infected with soil-transmitted helminths, 20 to 30% people infected with Toxoplasma gondii, 300 to 500 million new cases of malaria per year, and nearly 15 million Latin Americans with Chagas disease, an infection caused by Trypanosoma cruzi. This narrative review article analyzes information available in digital repositories on aspects of the traditional educational program of human or medical parasitology using descriptors or keywords closely related to the topic. The reviewed articles were mainly those published in peer-reviewed, index...
