Molecular analysis of human biological material allows the identification of future biomarkers to improve the management of patients with cancer. However, the handling of these samples requires particular ethical considerations. Different organizations such as the European Council and government agencies of the United States have generated different documents with definitions, mechanisms, and regulations to avoid putting at risk of harm or violating the rights of donors of biological samples. Finally, all these documents have evolved over time and have allowed research institutions to have standard committees and regulations in ethics. Thus, legal institutions can create precedents and generate coherent sentences.

Objective: To evaluate the clinical characteristics and outcomes of first-line ABVD (doxorubicin, bleomycin, vinblastine, dacarbazine) in patients with classical Hodgkin lymphoma treated at a neoplastic disease institute in Lima, Peru. Methods: Retrospective study of previously untreated classical Hodgkin lymphoma diagnosed between 2014 and 2018. All received ABVD days 1 and 15 every 28 days. We described clinical features, objective response rate (ORR), overall survival (OS), and adverse events (AEs) per CTCAE v5.0, and explored associations between clinical variables and response using the chi-square test. Results: A total of 157 patients were included, with a median age of 31.5 years (interquartile range [IQR]: 22–49.25), of whom 56.7% were male. The most common histological type was nodular sclerosis (64.3%). Bulky disease was present in 17.8%, mediastinal mass in 45.2%, and B symp...

The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) is a global public health crisis. Many reports indicate disappointing results in cancer patients compared to the general population. Therefore, experts in the management of oncohematological malignancies from the National Institute of Neoplastic Diseases, national hospitals and a private clinic in Metropolitan Lima have developed recommendations obtained by consensus to continue with the management of patients with oncohematological neoplasms safely in the face of the pandemic.

Background: Breast cancer incidence in the United States is lower in Hispanic/Latina (H/L) compared with African American/ Black or Non-Hispanic White women. An Indigenous American breast cancer-protective germline variant (rs140068132) has been reported near the estrogen receptor 1 gene. This study tests the association of rs140068132 and other polymorphisms in the 6q25 region with subtype-specific breast cancer risk in H/Ls of high Indigenous American ancestry. Methods: Genotypes were obtained for 5,094 Peruvian women with (1,755) and without (3,337) breast cancer. Associations between genotype and overall and subtype-specific risk for the protective variant were tested using logistic regression models and conditional analyses, including other risk-associated polymorphisms in the region. Results: We replicated the reported association between rs140068132 and breast cancer risk overall ...
