The purpose of the present study was to compare the dental caries experience and treatment needs of 678 school children, from 6 to 12 years old, belonging to a urban school and a marginal urban school of Lima city. The data was recorded using OMS codes for Oral Health Surveys. It was determined that urban school children are 5,5 % caries free and marginal urban school children 2,3 % caries free. The greatest significative c. p. o. index was in 6 year old students from the urban marginal zone (7,64) than students from the urban zone (6,17). The greatest c. p. o. index was in 12 year old students from the urban marginal zone (5,66) than students from the urban zone (5, 70). Treatment needs for dental caries are significantly greater (6.47 teeth) for marginal urban children than urban ones (5,47 teeth). ONE SURFACE FILLING was the major treatment required reaching 50 % of total needs, TWO O...

The principal aim of the model was to raise the quality of dental care through comprehensive measures for promotion, prevention and healing in the community. Specific aims were to increase the healthy population through promotion of health and reduce the morbidity of oral diseases by preventive actions and first class welfare care. A cross-sectional descriptive study. Revised Health Situation Analysis (HSA) of the Microgrid 03, the modified tab WHO oral health assessment is applied and oral exams to 100 families and 75 children of School N.° 5130. The leading causes of death were hypertension, diabetes mellitus and pneumonia. The leading causes of morbidity were acute respiratory infections, intestinal infectious diseases and diseases of the oral cavity. Tooth decay affects 80 % group of 6 to 15 years, followed by 57.34 % of malocclusion and periodontal disease with 20 %. Regarding oral...

A survey was performed which objective was to evaluate the oral hygiene habits among students from the Educational Institution (IE) No. 5130 at Pachacútec, Ventanilla, El Callao. The entire population was taken (225 children) who were 6, 12 and 15 years old. The results showed that 21.3% and 46.7% of the children brush their teeth once a day and more than once a day, respectively; 10.7% of them never brushes their teeth and 20% practices it sometimes. 34.7% of them has visited the dentist in the last six months, while 9.3% did it between the last six months to a year, and 26.7% has never gone to the dentist. 18.7% has done fluoride mouthwashing during two or more years, 9.3% has done fluoride mouthwashing just during one year, and 72.0% has never done fluoride mouthwashing at the Educational Institution. It is concluded that the oral hygiene habits of the 6, 12 and 15-year-old students ...

This investigation evaluates the clotting effect of extracts of two varieties of coca leaves: Erytrhoxylum coca var. Coca and novogranatense Erytrhoxylum var. Truxillense. The aim of the study was to determine the shortest time of clotting of the blood samples of the albin rats. 34 males and female rats were selected to have 3 ml. of blood of each one. The blood samples were distributed in three probes containing: 0,06 ml. of physiological serum (control group), 0,06 ml. extract of E. coca lam var. coca (coca group), and 0,06 ml. of extract E. novogranatense var. truxillense (truxillense group). The clotting time for the control group was of 1,42 (±0.31) min, coca group: 1,38 (±0.26) min, truxillense group 1,83 (±0.55) min. The Anova analysis of the results showed significant differences between groups (p<0.01). The coca group showed the shortest clotting time of all groups. The tr...

The use of MTA cement (mineral trioxide aggregate) to solve endodontics treatment complications, like pulpar floor camera perforations during root canal treatment, as well as a retrograde obturation material of apicectomy treatment, was the purpose of this investigation. White MTA Angelus, (Industria de productos odontologicos Ltda. Londrina-PR-Brazil) was used wich has 10 – 15 minutes as initial and final hardening time. The radiopacity showed by the material was somewhat superior to that of the dentine and oseo tissues, making its visualization in control x-rays easier. Inmediate and sixty days postoperative radiographic and clinical controls were made to cases. The results showed that there was adaptation from the cement to the retroapical and perforation cavity walls, producing an apical and marginal seal. The tricalcic silicate, tricalcic aluminate, dicalcic silicate, and tetracal...

The aim of this study was to determine the level of knowledge on oral health of mothers and their relationship with oral health status of their children under five years old, who were admitted to hospitals of Ministry of Health (MINSA) and Social Security (ESSALUD). Were taken into consideration ethical standards. This is an analytical and cross-sectional study. The sample consisted of mothers with children under five years of age (n 143). Was used not randomized quota sampling. Was applied a structured questionnaire to collect information about the level of mother´s knowledge on oral health and a diagnostic sheet for oral health status of children under five. Clinical examination was performed with artifitial light, using epidemiological indices: Dental Caries Index (dmft), and the Simplified Oral Hygiene Index by Greene-Vermillion (OHI-S). There was no significant association between ...

The intention of this inuestigation consisted of evaluating the effects of two oral colutorios (colutorio with sodium fluoride to 0.05% and colutorio of water with salt to 5%) on fhe bacterial plate and salivary pH in a population of soldiers. The sample was conformed by three groups: a group use colutorio of sodium fluoride to 0.05%, another use colutorio of water with salt and third group control that used water distilled during 40 days. The characteristics of the population allowed to control important intervening variables such as the diet, buccal hygiene of the soldiers, moments of hygiene and fulfillment of the indicated protocol. PHmetro was used calibrated and the simplified index of Green and Vermillon, to measure salivary pH and the index of bacteria1 plaque, respectively. It was used the analysis of variance, and test T of student matched up samples and to establish difference...
