Objective: to compare in vitro the marginal seal degree of composite resin restorations photopolomerized with L.E.D light and conventional halogen light, was the objective of this research. It was used 20 healthy molars recently extracted, in each of them, standardized dimensions class V cavities were prepared in the buccal and palatal aspects. Both cavities were filled with nanoparticles composite resin, Filteck Z350 and Single Bond adhesive (3M). Vestibular restaurations were light cured using L.E.D light, and palatal with conventional halogen light. Once restored, the molars were maintained for 48 hours at 37 °C and 100 % humidity. Samples were subjected to 1 % blue methylene solution thermocycling regimen, and then the marginal leakage degree was assessed, making a palatal-vestibule coronal cut, and the evaluation with a stereoscopic microscopy. The frequency of specimens that leakag...

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the solubility of gutta-percha in three solvents used in endodontics: xylol of traditional use, and the essential oils: eucalyptol and orange oil, of recent use, given the frequent need to remove the obturation material in radicular retreatment procedures. One hundred twenty samples of gutta-percha were prepared in a standardized way in small cylinders, being divided equally into four groups for immersion in three experimental solvents and distilled water (control group) during 2.5 and 10 minutes at room temperature. The solvent effect was recorded in grams of weight loss, calculating the difference between pre and post-immersion samples weight for each experimental time. The results were analyzed and compared by Tukey test (p <0.05). Under the conditions of this study it is concluded that, all experimental solvents were effective to dissolve ...

The use of MTA cement (mineral trioxide aggregate) to solve endodontics treatment complications, like pulpar floor camera perforations during root canal treatment, as well as a retrograde obturation material of apicectomy treatment, was the purpose of this investigation. White MTA Angelus, (Industria de productos odontologicos Ltda. Londrina-PR-Brazil) was used wich has 10 – 15 minutes as initial and final hardening time. The radiopacity showed by the material was somewhat superior to that of the dentine and oseo tissues, making its visualization in control x-rays easier. Inmediate and sixty days postoperative radiographic and clinical controls were made to cases. The results showed that there was adaptation from the cement to the retroapical and perforation cavity walls, producing an apical and marginal seal. The tricalcic silicate, tricalcic aluminate, dicalcic silicate, and tetracal...

One of the aims of a root-end filling material placed in an apicectomy treatment is to provide apical seal that can inhibits the coronary migration of antigens to perirradicular tissues. Many materials are used for this end; however, to date there has not been any material that satisfies all the requirements of an ideal material. With the purpose of making a comparative analysis of the apical sealing abilities of three root-end filling materials: silver amalgam, glass ionomer and MTA (mineral trioxide aggregate), in the leakage process of Enterococcus Faecalis bacteria and the time used for it to leak via coronary toward the perirradicular area, the present investigation was made. Leakage was proven when veering the fenol red glucose, in which the apexes of the sample teeth were submerged, to a temperature of 37ºC. The results showed that specimens that leakage in longer than 70 days we...

To carry out this investigation, eight patients 15 to 21 years old of Central Clinic of UNMSM Dentistry Faculty who had the indication for. first permanent molar extraction and at the same time had a third molar germ in eruption, were selected. The germ was at least in a Nolla development stage 7, 8 ó 9. Having the patient´s respective consent they underwent the autotransplantation of the germ to the socket of the first molar within the same quadrant. Cases were followed for a 12 weeks period. DIfferent tests to determine J the donor tooth was vital or not, were done. Six weeks after transplantation a high percentage of teeth began to respond to thermal and electric pu1p tests, the mobility they initially presented diminishing gradually. Until the time lapsed, the transplanted teeth clinically appeared to become firmer and conserved their pulp vitality. Being 70 to 80% of teeth that ma...

In order to evaluate the effectiveness of the apical sealing abilities achieved with the glass ionomer cement Ketac Endo, it was prepared 40 single rooted teeth, using the biomechanical preparation technique "step back ", and then they were filled with Lateral Condensation technique. 20 of them used the Ketac Endo sealer and 20 the Grossman sealer After the process of ink apical leakage, the specimens were cleared up for the observation to Stereo microscope. The results indicated a smaller degree of apical microleakage for Ketac Endo sealer than Grossman sealer.

In this report it is made a revision about success and failure in endodontics. The main causes of root canal treatment failure are described: periodontal, prosthetics or restoring und endodontic ones. The main retreatment indications are exposed outlining the necessity of this, not only in those cases where there are unequivocal symptoms of failure, but also in those asymptomatic teeth with a dubious root canal filling, which need a new prosthetic treatment or restoring.

The tissue adhesive based on cyanoacrylate monomers created by their investigators for the synthesis of recent surgical or traumatic wounds, has had a really extensive use in skin wounds treatment. In this investigation the cyanoacrylate is evaluated in the synthesis of mucoperiostal flaps in the buccal cavity comparing with the use of conventional silk suture 3/0. For this reason 20 patients of the Central Clinic Surgery Service of our Dentistry Faculty, who were going to have a surgical intervention for the extraction of impacted teeth, were selected, the mucoperiostal flaps synthesis were made using both methods. From the wound healing evolution observation in a period of 14 days we reached the following conclusions: 1) the use of butyl cyanoacrylate as a mean of confrontation of mucoperiostal flaps basically diminished the operative time of placement, virtually painless method since ...

The purpose of this study was to evaluate in vitro the curing effect of a light-emitting diode LED unit and conventional halogen light on the marginal leakage of a pit and fissure sealant. We used 40 caries-free permanent premolars recently extracted, which were randomly divided into two groups (n = 20), sealed with a resin based fissure sealant, Helioseal F (Ivoclar Vivadent), according to the manufacturer patterns, then photopolymerized using either L.E.D. light or conventional halogen light (control group). The specimens were stored in distilled water at 37 ° C for 48 hours, and covered all tooth surfaces with nail enamel except for a margin of 2 mm around the sealants, the samples were then immersed in a 1% blue methylene dye solution as a marginal leakage indicator, and subjected to thermocycling regimen of 500 cycles between 5 °C and 60 °C. After removal of the dye solution spec...
