The purpose of this study was to evaluate in vitro the curing effect of a light-emitting diode LED unit and conventional halogen light on the marginal leakage of a pit and fissure sealant. We used 40 caries-free permanent premolars recently extracted, which were randomly divided into two groups (n = 20), sealed with a resin based fissure sealant, Helioseal F (Ivoclar Vivadent), according to the manufacturer patterns, then photopolymerized using either L.E.D. light or conventional halogen light (control group). The specimens were stored in distilled water at 37 ° C for 48 hours, and covered all tooth surfaces with nail enamel except for a margin of 2 mm around the sealants, the samples were then immersed in a 1% blue methylene dye solution as a marginal leakage indicator, and subjected to thermocycling regimen of 500 cycles between 5 °C and 60 °C. After removal of the dye solution spec...

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the solubility of gutta-percha in three solvents used in endodontics: xylol of traditional use, and the essential oils: eucalyptol and orange oil, of recent use, given the frequent need to remove the obturation material in radicular retreatment procedures. One hundred twenty samples of gutta-percha were prepared in a standardized way in small cylinders, being divided equally into four groups for immersion in three experimental solvents and distilled water (control group) during 2.5 and 10 minutes at room temperature. The solvent effect was recorded in grams of weight loss, calculating the difference between pre and post-immersion samples weight for each experimental time. The results were analyzed and compared by Tukey test (p <0.05). Under the conditions of this study it is concluded that, all experimental solvents were effective to dissolve ...

Since the early 1990s, British dentists described the presence of the sphenomandibular muscle as a chewing muscle, then it was studied by Brazilian and Bolivian dentists, still exists the erroneous idea that his presence is real and has been questioned as an independent muscle. Objective: To demonstrate the presence of muscle sphenomandibular as independent muscle and its relationship with the temporal muscle. Material and methods: Followed a special dissection process suggested by Campohermoso et al, to verify the sphenomandibular muscle; they worked with seven human hemicabezas. Results: all specimens studied showed muscle sphenomandibular, checking an insertion in the front part of the bone pterygoid process sphenoid retromaxillary very close to the cleft sphenoidal close to the entrance of the common ocular motor nerve, and an insert lower on the crest o...
