The midazolam technique has been used in pediatric patients with fear or anxiety to obtain relaxation and to modify negative conduct. The objective of this study was to evaluate if hydroxyzine, an antihistaminic depressor of the central nervous system, added to midazolam technique by oral dosage provides more suitable levels of sedation. 24 children between 2 to 6 years of age, ASA I, with negative conduct (Frankl scale II) were distributed and randomized in two groups; the first group (I) received midazolam 0,75 mg/kg of weight; and the second group (II) received midazolam 0,75 mg/kg of weight plus hydroxyzine 1 mg/kg of weight. It was observed sedation level in the scale of Houpt, and vital signs were checked throughout the treatment. The results showed that: in group I, 58,3% obtained very good to excellent, sedation levels, 33,3% good to regular sedation levels and 8,3% poor sedation...

The objective of the study was to determine the frecuency of congenital and developmental oral alterations in infants aged 0 to 12 months, of Instituto Nacional de Salud del Niño since July to December 2008. Methodology: prior informed consent of the parents, stomatological examination in 109 infants, 56 male and 53 female, was performed. Instrumental was used in clinical examinations, artificial light source of dental unit and a data collection sheet. Results and conclusions: 72,5% of the totality examined infant, showed congenital and developmental oral alterations. The prevalent ones were the Böhn’s nodules with 40,3%, the persistent upper labial frenulum with 30,2% and the Epstein’s pearls with 29,3% of cases. No significant differences with respect to gender and age group were found. From the group that presented oral congenital and developmental abnormalities, 45.9% were born...

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the solubility of gutta-percha in three solvents used in endodontics: xylol of traditional use, and the essential oils: eucalyptol and orange oil, of recent use, given the frequent need to remove the obturation material in radicular retreatment procedures. One hundred twenty samples of gutta-percha were prepared in a standardized way in small cylinders, being divided equally into four groups for immersion in three experimental solvents and distilled water (control group) during 2.5 and 10 minutes at room temperature. The solvent effect was recorded in grams of weight loss, calculating the difference between pre and post-immersion samples weight for each experimental time. The results were analyzed and compared by Tukey test (p <0.05). Under the conditions of this study it is concluded that, all experimental solvents were effective to dissolve ...

In order to determine, in vivo antimicrobial effect of Camellia sinensis infusión (green Tea), as a mouthwash at 10 %; not stimulated saliva of 32 seemingly healthy people was collected: 1) Before mouthwash, 2) immediately after, and 3) after 30 minutes. The samples were spread in Agar Tripticasa Soy Bean and Agar Mitis Salivarius Bacitracina; then proceeded to the recount of the forming units of colonies of Mutans Streptococci for mL: The statistical analysis of results, by means of “t” and Wilcoxon tests, indicate that significant differences exists. On the other hand in the analysis of the mouthwash to determine polyphenols presence, by means of the infrared spectrophotometry peaks transmitted in wave lengths for the oxydril groups (-0H) and aromatic ring were observed. One concludes that there is an effective reduction in the number of microorganisms of the mixed salivary micro ...

This study aimed to identify learning styles preference and their relationship to academic achievement in freshman students. Methodology: Honey-Alonso Learning Styles (CHAEA) questionnaire was used; and evaluation report academic of the freshman students as evidence of their performance 48 student volunteers who participated in the mentoring program; mentor teachers and students were trained. Results: The 32% of freshman students come from public educational institutions and from 78% private; the average age is 19 years old and SD + -2.73. It was found that the theoretical learning style prevails (35, 4%), followed by active learning style (25%) with a moderate preference. Learning styles preference were compared at the beginning and at the end of the academic year, it was founded differences in active, theoretical and pragmatic learning styles; also it was founded relation between refle...
