Three sets of geoglyphs present in the Paracas and Nasca desert areas are associated with the Andean myth of the Fox in the Sky. A discoursive parallelism has been identified between the geoglyphs and the myth, establishing the geoglyphs as graphycally rendering scenes of the myth in two cases. In the third case, the characters are present but dispersed. The myth narrates the trip of the two main characters, the Fox and the Condor to the skies. They are later joined by the Parrot. The result of the mythical actions is the apparition of vegetable species on Earth, especially the oca. These edibles are also delineated on the Nasca Plains. These geoglyphic sets have been produced, in different styles in the places mentioned, in succesive periods. The myth, found from the Peruvian Central Andes to the Northern areas of Argentina and Chile, is still narrated today.

Huancavelica owes its foundation to the discovery and exploitation of its quicksilver mines by the Spanish. Being constituted from the beginning and throughout the colonial period in a miners' camp. Located at 3,680 meters above sea level, it must have been supplied with food and other merchandise from the nearby valleys and from the cities of Lima and Huamanga, on which it was dependent. The hauling of these products, as well as the transportation of the mineral, was carried out by the muleteers, an activity that grows parallel to the city and the mining exploitation. The following pages deal with herding in the first half of this century.

The author approaches the problematic that is presented when interrogating us on the emergence of the urbanism in the Andean area. He has made a theoretical revision of the models applied in that zone, which have been based on che paradigms of evolucionist court of Gordon Childe and Julian Steward, researchers that worked in che patterns of establishments of Mesopotamia, Greece, ltaly and medieval Europe. The "Syndrome of Catal Hüyük" refers to the scientific tradition of explaining the Andean urbanism making a parallel with the development phases discovered in that establishment of the Middle East. The author proposes the assumption of own models of analysis and obtain of this way, an appropriate understanding of the first Andean complex societies that have been characterized mainly by a pattern of «antiurban» establishment. This doesn't mean to ignore the evolucionist proposals, bu...

The design, construction and evaluation of a parallel dual-flow air heater solar collector that has the V-shaped corrugated absorbent plate and that works by natural convection is presented. The collector has been evaluated for clear sky when installed on a vertical wall in the city of Puno, oriented towards the geographical north in the autumn season. The performance parameters allowed to obtain high efficiency and the construction is low cost. The maximum outlet air temperature of the collector reached 95,7 ºC for a solar intensity of 758 W/m2, and the average mass flow for sunny days was 0,0094 kg/s, in addition it was found that the mass flow is very sensitive to air velocity and density. The average efficiency of the collector is 51,1% which represents a good performance since it extracts a large amount of completely passive thermal energy without requiring additional external ener...

The north of Peru is characterized by the presence of world-class porphyry (Cu-Au and Cu-Mo) and epithermal (Au) deposits, located on the west of central Andes, northern Peru. These mines and mineralized deposits are present in a temporal-structural associated with Neogene magmatism with ages from 24 Ma to 7 Ma, intruding silica-clastic rocks from the upper Cretaceous, which, due to the effects of tectonic deformations, particularly in the Cenozoic (Incaica and Quechua phases), led to the occurrence of mega controls Structural problems such as the one proposed in the following publication and hopes to open a window of debate in its environment. Structurally, the deposits in the north of Peru are controlled by mega structural systems that contain the Punre - Canchis fault (Rivera et al., 2008) in the eastern sector as the main structural accident, as well as the system of folds and faults...

Background: Five hundred years ago, goats were introduced to Peru, and since then, they have adapted to different climatic conditions, giving rise to the Creole goat, characterized by showing greater rusticity and better quality in both milk and meat than specialized breeds. Aim: This study aimed to describe the phenotype of the Creole goat in the Highlands of Chincha province, Ica. Methods: A total of 146 females aged >2 years without signs of crossbreeding with specialized breeds from the districts of San Juan de Yanac, San Pedro de Huacarpana, and Chavin were evaluated. Six phaneroptic characteristics, nine morphometric characteristics, and nine zoometric indices were registered. Tables and bar graphs were prepared. The chi-square test was performed to determine the association between districts and phaneroptic variables, ANOVA to identify differences between districts, correlation co...

Lower–Middle Ordovician brachiopods are well known from the Central Andean Basin of Argentina and Bolivia, but relatively little data comes from its northern prolongation in the Altiplano and the Eastern Cordillera of Peru. Here we present information about brachiopods collected from the San José Formation (Fm) from several sections located at the northeast of the Apurímac River valley in the surroundings of Kimbiri city in the Eastern Cordillera. From northwest to southeast the sections and their locations are: Libertad, in the mountain trail between this hamlet and the city of Pichari; Catarata and Nueva Alianza, in the mountain trail between Oroya and the last hamlet; and Kimbiri (K), in the trail parallel to the Kashiroveni stream north of the village of Kimbiri Alto. In these localities the San José Fm lies unconformably on Neoproterozoic rocks, reaching the maximum thickness o...
