If we analyze the demands of the university and the school until a few years ago, the university student was asked to acquire a series of knowledge of the specialty (most of them theoretical) to become a good professional. I learned the practice soon when I arrived at the company and at work, because I had a solid theoretical background. At the beginning of the 21st century, skills learning is required. The competences are complex skills-abilities that refer to the management of knowledge, skills (abilities-skills) and attitudes (values), in the realization of specific actions of a profession and with approved quality standards. The core of a competition is a capacity or potential that a person has to perform certain actions with accepted quality standards.

A permanent challenge in higher education is the development of teaching skills in academics to respond to the new profile of the student, demanding changes in the way teaching is delivered and evaluated. Here we evaluate the perception of university teaching skills from the perspective of students and the institutional perspective provided by teachers, as well as differences by gender, in a sample of 1837 students and 227 academics from a publicuniversity in two regions of south-central Chile. The general results indicate that teachers give greater importance to skills than students. Likewise, while students value skills, generating a pleasant climate in class and innovating in work practices, academics give greater importance to the transmission of knowledge and making evaluations more flexible. Nevertheless, there is agreement between both groups, considering that planning classes is ...

On the centenary of Paulo Freire’s birth, the interpretation of oppression and liberation in Pedagogy of the Oppressed still has a human value across cultures, space and time, inspiring educators to rethink teaching, as the subjective consciousness of students is obscured from an ontological perspective. This theoretical study analyzes from an ontological perspective the discovery of a new student and a new teacher. A student with the exercise of subjective awareness in teaching and a teacher with greater efficiency overcoming the barriers of inequality through the pedagogy of dialogue and the cultivation of the critical conscience of the student with the purpose of dignifying the student through his agent role in teaching activities that is currently denied. In addition, some discussions are established, practical solutions to achieve a change in education and teaching.

Starting academic life represents a problem to new comers into higher education. This situation is aggravated in the case of students in art-related majors, as there is a pre-conception that these disciplines are oriented towards the development of artistic skills only. However, university life also implies the development of other skills related to academic life. Considering these difficulties, we present in this text some perspectives about the teaching of essay writing and research at university level. We propose that the content of the student’s major field of studies courses should be articulated with the research practice by means of writings that evidence the textualization of the artistic practice, knowledge that is valuable in the specialization.

This paper describes the student and teacher's perceptions of the process of introducing CAD-CAM technology in dental education. A cross-sectional and descriptive study was carried out; two questionnaires validated by expert judgment were used for data collection, and descriptive statistics were applied. It was obtained that 57.9 % of the students and 37.5 % of the teachers considered that the teaching of CAD-CAM technology should begin in the third year of studies; the training was helpful for both students and teachers, and this technology would be a procedure of choice for treatment with fixed prosthesis if they had it available. It is concluded that students and teachers positively perceive the introduction of CAD-CAM technology in the clinical courses of the dental career, and it would be a resource of choice for fixed prosthesis treatment.

It is proposed to theoretically review the main strategies of acceleration and curricular enrichment aimed at gifted students. Information has been sought nationally and internationally and some strategies have been compiled that have demonstrated to be useful for time use and the enhancement of academic talent. The question at issue has been scarcely worked in the country, providing evidence lack of interest from academics, as well as the Peruvian education system. Emphasis is placed on the importance that parents and teachers being able to know and select effective alternatives to attend the needs of the most capable students. Finally, the subject is discussed from a psychoeducational and rights perspective, framed in the Peruvian context.

The research aims to relate the characteristics of the management and organizational capacity of the Peruvian university with the level of educational inclusion of students with hearing disabilities. A cross-sectional correlational design was used and a descriptive and inferential statistical analysis was carried out of the results of the Inclusive Educational Environment (3E + I) questionnaire, which was applied to a random sample of two groups of students (a group with disabilities and another without disabilities). The instrument was validated by means of a previous pilot test whose Cronbach’s alpha reliability index was 0.920. The results showed an inverse negative correlation between the perceptions of the clusters. Also, students with hearing disabilities identified a lower prevalence of educational inclusion in the university in relation to non-disabled students. The main causal...

Background: Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) seek to foster in students the development of professional competencies, that is, behaviors that conform to the fulfillment of the criteria of their respective disciplinary fields. From an interbehavioral perspective, the evaluation of these competencies involves defining behavioral indicators that allow their learning to be verified. The present study focuses on three fundamental competencies that comprise a large part of the clinical psychologist’s skills (identification of relevant cases, diagnostic assessment, intervention planning). Objective: To evaluate professional competencies in the clinical domain in students from UNAM. Method: Forty psychology students participated (16 from the fifth semester and 24 from the seventh semester). A modified version of the Virtual Environment for the Development...

The article presents the results of an investigation about the meanings that university students give to the learning that occurs in this context. We worked with a qualitative design in order to discover and deepen the dimensions involved in this learning, the definitions about it and the strategies put into play. The sample consisted of twenty-five students of the last year of careers taught at the Paraná Headquarters of the Universidad Católica Argentina (UCA). The focused interview was used. It included the technique of choosing objects that allows the construction of metaphors, in this case of university learning. Thus, the findings allow the notion of university learning to be expanded to fields not directly linked to the academic, cognitive or performance aspects, but to issues that specify the curricular and didactic, subjective, family, relational and teaching dimensions. In ad...

The essay aims to explore the situation of immigrant students in Latin American schools focusing on two aspects: the factors that limit an inclusive and intercultural educational practice and the ways in which students respond to the challenges posed by their school experience. The conclusion is that two contradictory conceptions/practices of education coexist in Latin American educational systems. One, which understands education as a public good that can be universalized under the same conditions for all; the other, which conceives education as a limited good in relation to the economic, social and cultural possibilities of families, a model imposed by the neoliberal shift that took place in the region. This tension has a direct impact on school life and is manifested in two paradoxical situations: i) states recognize that they must guarantee education for all, but at the same time, th...
