A virtual discussion forum was used as a didactic resource for developing argumentative skills in dental students in the occlusion course. The forum was applied as a replacement for the weekly evaluations intended to assess whether the students knew the concepts taught in each master class. Forty-eight students participated, and the variables of the virtual discussion forum and argumentative capacity were analyzed. The result was that the virtual forum used as a didactic resource influenced the argumentative capacity of the students. This finding agrees with several studies carried out in basic education as well as in university education. It is concluded that the discussion forum applied contributes to the development of cognitive abilities, specifically those related to argumentation.

This descriptive and cross-sectional study addressed students' perceptions of a preliminary practice in dental preparation for a metal-free crown, conducted on the same clinical case using haptic simulation before patient treatment. The sample consisted of 6 final-year dentistry students who, using haptic simulation with scanned images of the same patient's mouth, prepared metal-free crowns prior to treating the patient. Data collection was carried out through two surveys. It was found that 66.7% (n=4) of the students considered this experience very useful, and 83.3% (n=5) mentioned that the experience provided them with confidence to perform the procedure on the patient. The results suggest that recurrent practice in haptic simulation of a clinical case, prior to patient treatment, is favorable for performance and provides greater confidence in carrying it out.

Objective: To determine the perception of postgraduate students of a private university in Lima on the efficacy of the intraoral scanners (IOS) Primescan Dentsply Sirona® and Virtuo Vivo Straumann®. Materials and methods: Cross-sectional study in which 10 students of Oral Rehabilitation participated, who, after being trained, scanned a model using both IOS; subsequently, their perceptions were collected through a questionnaire. Results: The Primescan Denstply Sirona® IOS was considered by 80% (n = 8) and 100% (n = 10) of the students as having the best characteristics in scanning speed and flow, respectively; and the Straumann® Virtuo Vivo IOS was considered the most ergonomic by 100% (n = 10). Conclusions: The IOS Primescan Denstply Sirona® IOS was perceived as the fastest, sharpest and with the best scanning flow; and the Straumann® Virtuo Vivo IOS was considered the most ergonom...

At present, high-tech procedures focused on restorations based on dental ceramics have allowed the evolution and improvement of different forms of manufacturing restorations, thus initiating the use of ceramics such as zirconium dioxide. Objective: To identify recent publications of zirconium dioxide based restoration materials that include clinical studies, mechanical, physical and aesthetic properties, as well as their evolution, manufacturing and various applications in daily clinical practice. Materials and methods: The systematic search of the literature will be carried out in the databases of PubMed and Ebsco, publications from 2010-2019 will be considered and that they were clinical, laboratory research and all those that showed the evolution in time of zirconium dioxide , as well as its applicability and diversification. Results: 48 articles were reviewed that met the selection...

This paper describes the student and teacher's perceptions of the process of introducing CAD-CAM technology in dental education. A cross-sectional and descriptive study was carried out; two questionnaires validated by expert judgment were used for data collection, and descriptive statistics were applied. It was obtained that 57.9 % of the students and 37.5 % of the teachers considered that the teaching of CAD-CAM technology should begin in the third year of studies; the training was helpful for both students and teachers, and this technology would be a procedure of choice for treatment with fixed prosthesis if they had it available. It is concluded that students and teachers positively perceive the introduction of CAD-CAM technology in the clinical courses of the dental career, and it would be a resource of choice for fixed prosthesis treatment.
