Ankylosis is a dental anomaly of unknown etiology that causes bone bridges between the root cement and the alveolar bone that can lead to different dental problems. The objective of this case report is to present interceptive orthodontic treatment for a class I malocclusion in a 7-year-old boy. This treatment was proposed considering that the patient presented incomplete first phase mixed dentition and the clinical absence of teeth 55, 85, 16 and 46. Two ankylosed deciduous teeth were extracted and the occlusal face of the permanent teeth was operculectomy. The headgear was used in the maxilla and the labioactive plate or lip Bumper in the mandible, which made it possible to recover the space lost for the correct eruption of the permanent pieces. Early intervention through treatment allows partial correction of the malocclusion and prevents the problem from worsening.

Despite being a preventable and curable disease, Tuberculosis continues to be a major global health problem. Worldwide, according to the WHO in 2017 were estimated at 10 million new cases of active tuberculosis, equivalent to 133 cases per 100,000 people; and about 1.3 million deaths in non-HIV patients and 300,000 additional deaths in HIV patients due to this cause, mainly in countries with limited resources. On the other hand, what exacerbates the problem is the emergence of resistance to anti-tuberculous drugs, which complicates the possibilities of treatment. Isoniazid is today one of the fundamental first-line drugs for the management of Tuberculosis, being closely related to the rapid negativization of sputum bacilloscopy, attributed to the potent bactericidal effect on rapidly multiplying strains. vital relevance not only in the control of the disease, but also in the control of t...

The aim of this study is to identify the criteria that the industrial engineer or manager as decision maker, applied to solve problems, for which you design the conceptual model approach to soft systems methodology and experimental design to validate the influence of criterion in the choice of the manager or decisor maker. Within the rational framework used in the management of organizations, the industrial engineer try to identify the criteria, as decision maker, applied to choose among options, and resolve problem situations of the various scenarios in which it operates and holds roles. The enterprise considers four types of decisional macrocriteria, related to the stage and the decision maker's perspective, they may include: a) Position, based on human nature, b) Optimization based on the achievement and action in the world real, c) Satisfaction, based on social regulation and behavio...

The present study reports three cases of problems on farmed Arapaima gigas in the Peruvian and Brazilian Amazon (1st case: Jaundice disease in farmed Arapaima gigas (Schinz, 1822) in Pará, Brazil; 2nd case: Gas bubble disease in farmed Arapaima gigas from the Peruvian amazon and 3rd case: Mortalities caused by fights between sexually mature females of Arapaima gigas. All cases were reported during field expeditions to fish farms. The first case was reported in Para, Brazil and describes a jaundice disease caused by the consumption of contaminated food by micotoxins. The second case was reported in Iquitos, Peru and describes a “gas bubble” disease on young A. gigas caused by inadequate management and lack of acclimation when translated from a fish pond to glass aquaria and wooden boxes with shallow water. The third case is reported in Manaus, Brazil and describes a storage expe...

The Zika virus is a mosquito-borne flavivirus that has emerged as a significant threat in the region of the Americas, especially for pregnant women. Recent outbreaks in Central and South America have been associated with an increase in the incidence of microcephaly and other central nervous system abnormalities in newborns. There is a causal link between Zika infection during pregnancy and microcephaly and other neurological disorders. The region faces a probable epidemic with potential consequences for pregnant women and newborns. The epidemiology of the Zika virus, its threat to pregnancy, clinical consequences and impact on public health are reviewed. A number of features of the mechanisms of infection and dissemination sustain preventive interventions, diagnosis and management of the disease. It is important to intensify its epidemiological surveillance, and to work on prevention and...

The aim of the present study was to observe if there are differences in the level of the burnout dimensions between teachers who have experienced symptoms or health problems in the last year and those who have not  in a sample of 223 teachers working in educational institutions (elementary school level). Participants completed the Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI) in its teachers’ version, and a sociodemographic survey. This note discusses potential consequences of merging Isla Muyuy on the river Amazon which hosts an introduced (allochthonous) population of red-bellied tamarins, Saguinus labiatus (Callitrichidae), with the mainland, due to the Amazon’s riverine dynamics. It is recommended that an action plan be developed for this case, in order to avoid negative consequences for native populations of other species of tamarins and the ecosystem, in case Isla Muyuy joins the mainland.

Ensuring environmental sustainability is a concern at the international level. Th e objective of the research carried out was to propose teaching tasks that would favor the development of knowledge related to the management of the coastal zone of the town of “Isabela de Sagua”, in the municipality of Sagua la Grande, province of Villa Clara, Cuba, by the schoolchildren of the “Rubén Martínez Villena” Mixed Center. For the development of the research, methods of information collection and methods of processing the collected information were used. Th e sample consisted of 35 schoolchildren who make up the enrollment of the 7th grade group 1 of this center. Th e application of the instruments made it possible to determine that, although the guiding documents of the educational policy make explicit the need to systematize the work of Environmental Education, the class is used as a ...

The integrative approach to care for patients demands training to evaluate frequent chronic problems in the outpatient clinic. Patients with hypertension, diabetes mellitus and asthma can be approach using models of evaluations such as the TOPIC that allows to order the evaluations in a structured sequence of four mayor tasks: processing of the information, development of an adequate physician-patient-family relationship and integrating information and learning for life. Processing information implies four sub-activities in which we evaluate patient´s expectations and concerns, severity and control of conditions, adherence and side effects of treatments focusing on damage to target organs and comorbidities. Applying this model can help physicians and their patients to be more efficient in managing chronic problems considering the short time available for ambulatory care.
