Walking plays the role of the primary structuring axis of the landscape. Recent studies highlight the importance of evaluating walkability from a gender perspective. This article addresses this gap, analysing different in the use of space in central areas of São Paulo, through an urban ergonomic evaluation. The results revealed that the presence of women on the sidewalks is related to mixed-use areas and the presence of active facades. It is suggested that urban planning policies consider these specificities to promote gender equity in walkability and improve the quality of life in cities.

There are few studies in Spanish that analyze the complex relationships between gender stereotypes and gender morphology, even fewer that include non-binary forms. We evaluated the effects of two independent variables (stereotype bias and gender morphology) on the comprehension of sentences that include role nouns with masculine and feminine stereotypicality. We analyzed two dependent variables: noun phrase reading time (determiner + role noun) and total reading time. We found an early incidence of stereotypes during comprehension and different effects at the noun phrase level compared to the sentence level. Furthermore, the non-binary form [-e] seemed to function as a generic term for speakers of Argentine Spanish.

The analysis of gender dynamics in the context of climate change reveals underlying power structures that shape the implementation of adaptation strategies. Social dynamics intersecting with climate impacts often create vulnerabilities and elicit varied responses between genders. This study presents small-scale research on gender roles in climate adaptation within coffee farming in the Olmedo canton, Loja province, Ecuador. Using qualitative interviews and participant observation, data were collected from coffee-producing families. Findings indicate that coffee production involves gender-differentiated family efforts influenced by power relations and traditional gender roles, with women and their children assuming pivotal roles in adopting climate adaptation measures. These insights contribute empirical evidence for discussions on gender neutrality in climate adaptation policies in South...

In 2016, a national campaign against the Ministry of Education’s new National Curricula for Basic Education emerged in Peru. A Facebook group with the name «Con Mis Hijos No Te Metas PERÚ-Oficial» («Don’t Mess With My Children PERU-Oficial», in English) also appeared. It started receiving thousands of «likes» and was used to share information about the curricula and coordinate activities and protests. In the context of this campaign, I conducted a netnography of the Facebook group and analyzed the discourse that appears in the page. Using Foucault’s ideas of power as a point of departure, I argue that religious individuals that oppose the curricula and participate in the page are exercising pastoral power, and acting like pastors in charge of guiding a flock of bodies-souls away from this «gender ideology» and to salvation....

Background: Trans people may find themselves in a situation of social discrimination, reflected in their health and in the lack of scientific research. The minority stress theory points out the importance of social support for the stress of sexual or gender minorities. This study aims to explore social support and its dimensions in this population. Method: 81 people participate, of which 36 are trans and 45 non-trans (cisgender), as a control group. The Mos Social Support Survey is applied to measure perceived social support and a questionnaire with sociodemographic variables. Results: The results show that there are no differences in the perceived social support between both groups. However, sociodemographic variables such as having a partner, age, and employment situation show change for the trans population in some dimensions. Conclusion: These findings promote future lines of researc...

This paper analyzes the negative influence that cultural friction areas can promote on intercultural contacts. First, we expose the critical incident method like cross-cultural training model (Arthur, 2001). Then we show the negative effects that sensitive cultural zones can exert on the formation of prejudices and stereotypes about culturally diverse groups, analyzing 77 critical incidents collected in two different formative contexts. The main cultural shock areas detected are a) intercultural communication barriers, b) gender roles, and c) the cultural expressions statement. Strategies to improve the method validity are proposed.

The literature of aging explores the deterioration of the human body, while feminist literature explores the problems of gender equality. According to Miguel Sabido (1989) and Albert Bandura (1989), the media, particularly the telenovelas, tend to use stereotypes that portray women and the elderly population negatively. Sabido uses the concepts of education and entertainment to unveil how telenovelas teach societal behavior, allowing a path for social discrimination towards them. Through these concepts, the researchers have demonstrated how the Mexican and Colombian telenovelas negatively portrayed the elderly people, especially women. Such analysis was not done in vain, as it had the purpose of giving agency to the elderly by allowing them to have to power of how they want to be represented in the media.

In the present text, the authors propose a novel methodology for the identification and analysis of the speeches made by plaintiffs and judges in cases of recognition of trans* identities. Both conclude that these actors converge in the process from rigid binary, pathologizing and genitalizing discourses, making very scarce references to the most recent contributions that Law and Social Sciences have made to the understanding of gender identity.

Objectives: To analyze and discuss barriers for diagnosis and therapy of cervical cancer (CC) in a public hospital in Lima, Peru. Materials and methods: A qualitative study was performed between December 2019 and March 2020. Observation and detailed interviews were the data collection tools used. In total, 15 detailed interviews with patients and healthcare personnel were carried out. Results: For healthcare personnel interviewed, barriers (for good care) are basically lack of personnel and poor hospital infrastructure. This leads to weakening educational campaigns with respect to the importance of adequate screening for CC prevention. For patients, time limitations, lack of knowledge and fear of being exposed to a male healthcare worker are the main barriers for healthcare proper decision making with respect to CC prevention and management. Conclusions: The weak Peruvian hospital infras...

From the exposition of a sentence that has left unpunished the strangulation of a trans woman in the city of Iquitos, this article exposes, compiling empirical investigations, the situation of trans women in Peru. Through the presentation of human rights reports prepared by LGTBIQ collectives from 2004 to the present, the purpose of this analysis is to have references and inputs that allow us to outline what gender law can do to avoid impunity and to guarantee effective protection against the violence perpetrated, with particular cruelty, against these women.

The study analyzes the effects of the control of constitutionality and conventionality in the Argentine system, in light of the international systems for the protection of human rights and the legal instruments to which the Argentine State is a signatory. These systems do not have derogatory effects on domestic norms, but the inapplicability of these to the specific case and the possibility of providing for actions or omissions; that is, orders to do or not to do with respect to a specific situation in order to safeguard the principle of constitutional and conventional supremacy, so that the subjective right enshrined in these hierarchically superior norms prevails. In this perspective, the aforementioned systems of rights are of mandatory and preferential application to any domestic legislation of lower rank. In other words, it is not only the text of the covenants, conventions and trea...
