The science courses are and will be the basis of the students' knowledge, in this sense the mathematics course is considered the most important course because in its content it presents topics related to calculus, making their learning of vital importance in the design of educational processes. Finance a review of the state of the art we find a series of works dedicated to being able to enhance the mechanisms used for teaching, from the use of scientific calculators to reaching certain computer programs of common use, in this work a methodology is developed to be able to enhance the programming skills that teachers have in a specific area of programming, where we can consider any programming language but also any computer tool such as Excel spreadsheets. The methodology proposes the organization of topics as specific theories, such as algebra, arithmetic, trigonometry, geometry, where sp...

The task of elaborating accurate test suites for program testing can be an extensive computational work. Mutation testing is not immune to the problem of being a computational and time-consuming task so that it has found relief in the use of heuristic techniques. The use of Genetic Algorithms in mutation testing has proved to be useful for probing test suites, but it has mainly been enclosed only in the field of imperative programming paradigms. Therefore, we decided to test the feasibility of using Genetic Algorithms for performing mutation testing in functional programming environments. We tested our proposal by making a graph representations of four different functional programs and applied a Genetic Algorithm to generate a population of mutant programs. We found that it is possible to obtain a set of mutants that could find flaws in test suites in functional programming languages. Ad...

In the current literature, there is limited evidence of the effects of teaching programming languages using two different paradigms concurrently. In this paper, we present our experience in using a multiparadigm and multiprogramming approach for an Introduction to Programming course. The multiparadigm element consisted of teaching the imperative and functional paradigms, while the multiprogramming element involved the Scheme and Python programming languages. For the multiparadigm part, the lectures were oriented to compare the similarities and differences between the functional and imperative approaches. For the multiprogramming part, we chose syntactically simple software tools that have a robust set of prebuilt functions and available libraries. After our experiments, we found that the students were strongly biased towards memorizing the syntax of these languages, jeopardizing their ab...

Mathematicians and computational designers from a School of Architecture, explore visual programming in the environment of a design software with exercises of a basic mathematics course to overcome the limitations of hand drawing and computerized representation of geometry. We link the learning of geometry, which was associated with abstract aspects of mathematics, with the possibilities of solving design problems in the same environment that students use to design with technologies. Visual programming allowed to create and reuse formulas that modeled variations of different exercises, preparing the model for visualization and digital fabrication with 3D printing and laser cutting. This research promotes a learning experience using algorithms and personalized computer graphics throughout design learning and to value the use of mathematics to explore geometric possibilities in design prob...

It's well known that the duration of the engineering programs in Latin American countries like Peru are of order of 5 years, roughly. Commonly, the target of the fifth year of program is to carry out activities of thesis and capstone projects. Clearly these activities would demand that the student can exhibit skills and a certain level of maturity which might be crucial for a successful completion of the projects. However, the expected performance of the students might be correlated to the educational features of the institution (university, technological institute, etc) to some extent. In this manner, in this paper we try to measure the quality of education (QoE) of a Peruvian engineering program through the application of a mathematical methodology based on the individual score of students along the time where the projects take place. Furthermore, the error of the model is interpreted ...

One of research areas of Systems Engineering is software development; for which, high level of programming using different languages is required. Therefore, students have basic, intermediate, and advanced programming courses, within their curriculum; currently these courses have a high rate of disapproval. In this article, we develop a case study on the programming course of systems engineering degree from the University of Sciences and Humanities, Peru. Following the stages of participatory action research methodology. First, a diagnosis was made, in which a rate of disapproval of 58% was identified. Second, a technique of participatory teaching and learning, using previous materials and exams, was applied. Third, results were measured, in which the rate of disapproval was reduced to 8%. Additionally, results revealed that 82% of participants opined that improved their learning, 75% tha...

In this article, a systematic review is carried out to identify random and systematic errors in studies on computer programming in pairs in higher education students. Methodologically, we applied the fundamentals of the PRISMA statement. One thousand one hundred eighty articles were selected from the Scopus, Web of Science, and IEEE Xplore databases. After a filtering process, the final sample was 23 23 articles. The results showed that couple programming has positive effects. The existence of both random and systematic errors was observed, which questions the internal and external validity. Further research is needed to establish the benefits of couple programming more precisely.

How to keep students interested in a CS1 course is not new to those who teach the subject. This work describes our experience in the use of Python with its Turtle Graphic Library in a game-oriented approach that seeks to increase the interest and motivation of students. We present the assignment for branch, loops and functions: the simulation of a basic game with a spaceship that can shoot a bullet to the enemy. Our experience has shown us that students get engaged and motivate themselves with the graphical component. We have found an improvement in students' grades.

Learning-by-doing is an educational theory which establishes that the students learn in a more effective way if they are involved in experiences of the real world instead of passively listening. In the HCI course of the Master Program in Informatics, of the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru, the professors proposed the active-learning approach for the teaching of several topics related to HCI such as usability, user-centered design, human factors, accessibility, ergonomics and internationalization that are nowadays relevant concepts for the design process of graphical user interfaces. For this purpose, we received the committed collaboration of a local financial entity, the BBVA Continental Bank, which voluntarily agreed to establish a set of requirements for the design of GUIs that support the implementation of new features in ATMs. This proposed exercise has allowed the students t...

Currently due to the pandemic situation that has affected the world community without distinction of languages, customs and creeds, technology was incorporated massively to achieve the continuity of progress in research, and development of culture and academic education, through this progress. As an introduction we can mention that this research is achieved by the need to do physics using other tools easy to manipulate with basic programming knowledge, likewise in the repositories there are many other studies that applied computationally the development of simulations of different physical phenomena. The method to use is the GeoGebra tools applying the basic syntax that is obtained by entering the equations in the input bar of the GeoGebra software already preset, being these equations calculated many times by students using differential equations, which obtains the solution equation dep...

We present a collaborative coding environment that helps the teaching of introductory computer graphics courses, with the goal of to do teaching graphics fundamentals more effectively and lowering the excessive difficult of initiate into 3D graphics programming. Traditionally, the OpenGL Library is used for teaching computer graphics courses, since there are bindings for the most popular languages, including Python, Ruby, Java and the web (WebGL). In particular, our proposed framework provides a web IDE for collaborative coding, between classmates or workgroups, and the professor can help them or interact on it. The second component is the use of the Emscripten library, which allows the program with OpenGL on the web in the same way as it is done in a local mode. Compared with WebGL, our proposal has better benefits since the code could be used in any computer with OpenGL support, which ...

Social networks have impacted society, to such an extent that in many occasions it is more important to be aware of them than any other application on the cell phone, tablet or laptop. On the other hand, the arrival of the covid-19 disease has also impacted the way students, teachers and the education system itself act. The present work aims to select the most suitable social network for higher education support, through computing with words, used to perform the process of computation and reasoning. In addition, the FLINTSTONES program is used to simulate the different models. Finally, the results achieved for each of the three social networks analyzed are presented: Telegram, WhatsApp and Facebook.

The objective was to evaluate the effect of the application of the GeoGebra software on the problem-solving skills of two-dimensional geometric figures in a sample of 53 university students distributed in two groups (control -experimental) evaluated in two moments: before and after the intervention. . Parametric tests were used to compare independent and related pairs and nonparametric tests were used to compare between classification levels. The results showed that the post-test experimental group was the one that presented the best performance, demonstrating that the use of GeoGebra software improved the solving skills of this type of mathematical problems, promoting collaborative work, social-student integration and improvement of the classroom climate. It is recommended to extend the use of this tool with other applications that help the teaching-learning process.
