Social conflicts in the world have increased, due to the fact that the natural resources is being over exploited. In this work, we conducted a social conflict analysis using the entropy-weight method, which is based on Shannon entropy theory. The case study was conducted on a mining project allocated in northern Peru. The rural population and urban population stakeholder groups were analyzed under seven social criteria or variables. The results revealed that the criterion most likely to generate social conflict between stakeholder groups was access to drinking water. These results could help to central and local governments to make the best decision in order to prevent possible social conflict. The entropy-weight method showed interesting results and could be applied to other social conflicts, as this method considers the uncertainty within its analysis.

Pollutants inside at houses are smoking, gas combustion, use of solvents, household cleaning chemicals, emissions from building materials, and contamination of the exterior aggravates the inside of the house. In this article, we conducted a study to select the best air purifier equipment for an urban house. The selection was carried out by applying the analytic hierarchy process (AHP) methodology. In this study, three alternatives were proposed for the evaluation of the air purifier equipment: Bap1700, Bap600 and Bap706; which were ranked according to the criteria: scope, characteristics, and model. To carry out the selection using AHP, a panel of four experts were selected for this study. In this paper, we determined that the best air purifier equipment was the A1 alternative: Air Purifier Bap1700.

One of research areas of Systems Engineering is software development; for which, high level of programming using different languages is required. Therefore, students have basic, intermediate, and advanced programming courses, within their curriculum; currently these courses have a high rate of disapproval. In this article, we develop a case study on the programming course of systems engineering degree from the University of Sciences and Humanities, Peru. Following the stages of participatory action research methodology. First, a diagnosis was made, in which a rate of disapproval of 58% was identified. Second, a technique of participatory teaching and learning, using previous materials and exams, was applied. Third, results were measured, in which the rate of disapproval was reduced to 8%. Additionally, results revealed that 82% of participants opined that improved their learning, 75% tha...

Social impact assessment (SIA) has become an important factor for social conflicts prevention. In this study, we conducted SIA using the center-point triangular whitenization weight functions (CTWF) method, which is based on grey systems theory. A case study was conducted on a hydrocarbon exploration project located in the Gulf of Valencia, Spain. Two stakeholder groups and four evaluation criteria were identified. The results revealed that for the group of the directly linked population, the project would have very negative social impact; and for the group of indirectly linked citizens, the project would have negative social impact. The results could help central and community governments to make the best decision on the project. The method showed interesting results and could be apply to SIA of other projects or programs.

Citizen criminality has become an important social problem in Lima city, due to the fact that the number of crimes has increased. In this study, we conducted a citizen criminality assessment using the grey clustering method, which is based on grey systems theory. The case study was conducted on 32 districts from Lima, Peru. Consequently, a map on the citizen criminality situation was obtained. The results revealed that the more insecure districts were San Juan de Lurigancho, Los Olivos, and Cercado de Lima; and the less insecure districts were Ancón, Surquillo, and Lince. The study results could help to the central and district government to make the best decision on the citizen criminality problem. The grey clustering method showed interesting results and could be applied to other social problems, as this method considers the uncertainty within its analysis.

Violence against women is a social problem that not only affects women involved, but also their relatives and their environment. In Peru, it is a topic that is becoming increasingly more visible. In this work, a computational model based on the entropy-weight method, which is an approach from Shannon entropy theory, was used. The entropy-weight method was applied to calculate the weights of the criteria; and then, the departments studied were classified according to the results of a weighted sum. The evaluation criteria were physical violence against women (C1), sexual violence (C2), psychological violence (C3), women who suffered violence and sought help (C4), reported cases of family or sexual violence (C5), gender inequality in the labor force (C6), and victims of femicide (C7). This article presents a map of information on the departments with the highest rate of violence against wom...

Social impact assessment (SIA) is an important factor to prevent environmental conflicts, in this way, it is very necessary to integrate SIA and environmental conflict analysis (ECA). In this work, we propose to integrate SIA and ECA by means of an integrated method based on grey systems and Shannon entropy. A case study was conducted on a hydrocarbon exploration project located in the Gulf of Valencia, Spain. Three stakeholder groups and four evaluation criteria were established. The results revealed that for group of affected directly population (G1), the project would have very negative social impact; for group of academic population (G2), the project would have negative social impact; and contrary perception was found in the group of retirees (G3), who opined the project would have positive social impact. In addition, it was also noted that the criteria most likely to generate enviro...

Environmental conflict analysis (henceforth ECA) has become a key factor for the viability of projects and welfare of affected populations. In this study, we propose an approach for ECA using an integrated grey clustering and entropy-weight method (The IGCEW method). The case study considered a mining project in northern Peru. Three stakeholder groups and seven criteria were identified. The data were gathered by conducting field interviews. The results revealed that for the groups urban population, rural population and specialists, the project would have a positive, negative and normal social impact, respectively. We also noted that the criteria most likely to generate environmental conflicts in order of importance were: access to drinking water, poverty, GDP per capita and employment. These results could help regional and central governments to seek appropriate measures to prevent envir...

“Industrial hygiene is a preventive technique that tries to avoid professional illnesses and damage to health caused by several possible toxic agents. The purpose of this study is to simultaneously analyze different risk factors (body vibration, lighting, heat stress and noise), to obtain an overall risk assessment of these factors and to classify them on a scale of levels of Unacceptable, Not recommended or Acceptable. In this work, an artificial intelligence model based on the grey clustering method was applied to evaluate the quality of industrial hygiene. The grey clustering method was selected, as it enables the integration of objective factors related to hazards present in the workplace with subjective employee evaluations. A case study, in the three warehouses of a beer industry in Peru, was developed. The results obtained showed that the warehouses have an acceptable level of q...

Latin America is affected by citizen insecurity; street robberies are frequent. In Peru, this scenario is alarming; according to studies and reports presented by the authorities, it is estimated that a monthly average of 1,5348 robberies are reported every month. Lima, being the main capital, is exposed to a greater number of assaults, especially in young areas; because of this, in this research work, an IoT design was presented, which consists of a system of alarms implemented in specific areas where the complaint rate is higher. This alarm will be activated through a mobile application installed on the user’s smartphone, This way; the user can turn on the alarm in case they witnesses or is the victim of a robbery; the application will send an alert message to the nearest authorities to take action on the scare. The Scrum Methodology was used as a methodology because its framework is ...
