Background: Obesity in children and adolescents has increased exponentially around the world. Furthermore, the COVID-19 pandemic has led to a higher pediatric obesity rate. The excess adipose tissue generates a dysregulation of adiponectin, ghrelin, and leptin, among others. Metabolic alterations can develop cardiovascular disease, dyslipidemias, arterial hypertension, type 2 diabetes mellitus, nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, sleep disorders, and higher risk of COVID-19 severity. Obesity has different therapeutic approaches such as behavioral weight loss programs, pharmacologic treatments, and surgical procedures. Therefore, timely diagnosis and treatment are important to decrease the mortality in obesity among pediatric population.

Decision making in mining is a complicated process. Decisions regarding the sizing and allocation of the fleet of trucks to different mines, considering the compliance with production and the total objective cost, are of paramount importance to mining companies as this directly affects their profits. This document presents a model of goal programming (based on linear programming) to optimize mining operations in underground mining taking into account three goals: (a) To minimize deviations from the target production of different minerals, (b) to minimize the surplus of the total designated operating cost and (c) to maximize the use of concentrator plants’ maximum capacity. The model determines the number of trucks needed and provides the optimal allocation to each mine while addressing the goals and limitations of the mining operation. The proposed model was validated using real data f...

Teaching design patterns has proved to be a complicated topic in software engineering courses. Practitioners require mastering this technique in order to develop higher-quality programs. As part of the experiment, we used pair programming practice to solve this problem in an undergraduate classroom activity, aiming that finding the best pair configuration based on previous programming skills and character affinity, would lead us to better results. The experiment was divided into five rounds, increasing the complexity every each exercise. Afterward, we compared the score obtained by the students in the mid-term exam with last semester scores, resulting in an improvement of 0.37 points with the previous semester, which was 12.3% of the highest score (3 points).
