Persistent object detection in radar imagery becomes harder if the results are expected before the next image arrives to the digitizer card. This requires a clear commitment between the hit rate, the false contact rate and a time restriction in order to get real-Time results taking one full revolution of the radar as the basic unit. The conventional algorithms use CFAR techniques and obtain acceptable results, but with a high false contact rate, especially in near-shore radar imagery, which contain ground clutter portions of the images. This work presents the first results of the analysis to the solutions to this problem by applying Deep Learning. This research proposes the use of convolutional neural networks Faster R-CNN on radar imagery. The developed methods are applied using a methodology. The purpose of this research is to provide methods and techniques to improve the detection of ...

Five specimens of Hoplerythrinus unitaeniatus «shuyo» (Erythrinidae) and one of Pterodoras. granulosus «cahuara» (Doradidae) were assessed in Yurimaguas district, Alto Amazonas, Loreto, Peru in February 20014. A larva of the trematode Ithyoclinostomum dimorphum and 13 larvae of Sphincterodiplostomum musculosum in H. unitaeniatus in the visceral surface, and 18 adult of Dadaytrema oxycephala from the small bowel of P. granulosus were found. This is the first report of metacercariae of I. dimorphum and S. musculosum in Peru. H. unitaeniatus is a new host for S. musculosum. D. oxycephala in P. granulosus is reported in Peru.

244 specimens of Periplaneta americana Linnaeus from 13 localities of Ica were studied. Nematodes and protozoa were identified. They are Lophomonas blattarum, Leptomonas sp., Leidynema appendiculatum and Hammerschmidtiella diesingi. Also, parasites of man were found, three of which are pathogenic: Giardia lamblia, Blastocystis hominis and Cryptosporidium sp.

Seasonal predictions have a great socioeconomic potential if they are reliable and skillful. In this study, we assess the prediction performance of SEAS5, version 5 of the seasonal prediction system of the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF), over South America against homogenized station data. For temperature, we find the highest prediction performances in the tropics during austral summer, where the probability that the predictions correctly discriminate different observed outcomes is 70%. In regions lying to the east of the Andes, the predictions of maximum and minimum temperature still exhibit considerable performance, while farther to the south in Chile and Argentina the temperature prediction performance is low. Generally, the prediction performance of minimum temperature is slightly lower than for maximum temperature. The prediction performance of precipitat...

Background: The burden of obesity differs by socioeconomic status. We aimed to characterise the prevalence of obesity among adult men and women in Latin America and the Caribbean by socioeconomic measures and the shifting obesity burden over time. Methods: We did a cross-sectional series analysis of obesity prevalence by socioeconomic status by use of national health surveys done between 1998 and 2017 in 13 countries in Latin America and the Caribbean. We generated equiplots to display inequalities in, the primary outcome, obesity by wealth, education, and residence area. We measured obesity gaps as the difference in percentage points between the highest and lowest obesity prevalence within each socioeconomic measure, and described trends as well as changing patterns of the obesity burden over time. Findings: 479 809 adult men and women were included in the analysis. Obesity prevalence a...

Background Describing the prevalence and trends of cardiometabolic risk factors that are associated with noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) is crucial for monitoring progress, planning prevention, and providing evidence to support policy efforts. We aimed to analyse the transition in body-mass index (BMI), obesity, blood pressure, raised blood pressure, and diabetes in the Americas, between 1980 and 2014. Methods We did a pooled analysis of population-based studies with data on anthropometric measurements, biomarkers for diabetes, and blood pressure from adults aged 18 years or older. A Bayesian model was used to estimate trends in BMI, raised blood pressure (systolic blood pressure =140 mm Hg or diastolic blood pressure =90 mm Hg), and diabetes (fasting plasma glucose =7.0 mmol/L, history of diabetes, or diabetes treatment) from 1980 to 2014, in 37 countries and six subregions of the Ameri...
