The development and consumption of functional foods (FF) have gained relevance in response to modern dietary habits and their effects on public health. This study evaluated the current perspectives on FF in different countries and their promotion of health through a bibliometric and scoping review of the Scopus database, selecting 52 relevant documents from the last 15 years. The search equation used was ("functional food" or "functional product") and ("food development" and health) and not (animals or animals). The R biblioshiny package was used to quantify the data. The results revealed an increase in scientific research on FF, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, due to the interest in strengthening the immune system. The research shows significant collaboration between countries, highlighting China, the United States, and Brazil as leaders and institutions such as Zhejiang Univer...

This systematic review aims to conduct a comprehensive analysis of research that proposes executive functions (EFs) as a pathway to understanding the individual factors that support aggressive behavior (AB) and, consequently, contribute to the maintenance of bullying dynamics within school contexts. The search for articles was conducted in databases such as Web of Science, Scopus, and PubMed. Specifically, studies were selected that analyzed the contribution of EFs to AB or the role of perpetrator in bullying situations, conducted in the last 10 years with samples ranging from 4 to 12 years of age. The final result of the search yielded 11 articles, through which it was identified that while EFs contribute to the development of aggressive behavior, their impact may vary depending on the subtype of aggression evaluated. Thus, superior or inferior executive performance can translate into d...

Interpersonal partner violence (IPV) is a worldwide public health problem. As a result of IPV, victims report high rates of physical and behavioral disabilities. Help-seeking behaviors are key to obtaining support on facing and managing IPV. Cultural practices such as machismo, marianismo, and familismo are related to keeping quiet and remaining in an abusive relationship in Latinas. Difficulties in sharing emotions, setting interpersonal boundaries, and communicating needs are also behavioral barriers to seeking help in this population. All these factors are associated with social disconnection which reduces victims’ chances of obtaining support in risky situations. Although several programs have been developed for helping victims of IPV, more evidence on adaptions to particular cultural and interpersonal struggles faced by Latinas’ victims is needed. Functional Analytic Psychothera...

OBJECTIVE: To assess the association between menopausal status and female sexual function among mid-aged women with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection. METHODS: We carried out a cross-sectional study of 221 sexually active HIV-infected women ages 40 to 59 years, based on a secondary analysis of a three-hospital survey in Lima, Perú. We classified menopausal status according to Stages of Reproductive Aging Workshop criteria (STRAW+10); this exposure variable was categorized as binary (non-postmenopausal and postmenopausal) and-for exploratory analysis-as multinomial (pre-, peri-, and postmenopausal). We defined low sexual function (LSF) using the 6-item Female Sexual Function Index (total score ≤19). Socio-demographic and clinical variables were assessed, including age, used highly active antiretroviral therapy scheme, disease duration, depressive symptoms, and co-morbiditi...

The construction industry requires concrete with adequate post-cracking behavior for applications such as tunnels, bridges, and pavements. For this reason, polypropylene macrofibers are used, which are synthetic fibers that fulfill the function of providing residual strength to concrete. In this study, an experimental plan is carried out to evaluate the bending behavior of concrete reinforced with polypropylene fibers using the four-point bending test according to ASTM C1609. Three fiber dosages (3.6, 7.2 and 10.8 kg/m3) and three fiber lengths (40, 50, and 60 mm) were used. The use of macro polypropylene fibers increased the post-cracking behavior of concrete. In addition, based on the experimentally obtained results and available literature data, a multivariable equation was developed to predict the concrete toughness as a function of the volume, slenderness, and modulus of elasticity ...

Background: Self-injurious behaviors are highly prevalent in individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), occurring frequently in those with associated intellectual disabilities as well as in those without intellectual impairment. Single-case studies have found that functional communication training helps regulate self-injurious behaviors and repetitive behaviors, particularly in children with ASD. However, no review identifies whether there is experimental evidence to support the use of this treatment. Objective: Our review aims to determine the efficacy of functional communication training for regulating self-injurious behavior in children and adolescents diagnosed with ASD. Methods: A systematic review was conducted.PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, and Embase were searched for single-case experimental studies and randomized clinical trials. Result...

A novel design procedure for tuned mass dampers in isolated structures is presented. The proposed optimization method is specifically developed to control base displacements or to solve the large isolator displacement problem in this type of structures under earthquakes. Therefore, it is based on a displacement transmissibility function, T, a particular case of the general transmissibility concept, which comes from Vibration Isolation. Three contributions are: 1) application of new seismic displacement narrowbandness, 2) simpler relative transmissibility function, and 3) compound design of isolation plus tuned mass damper. A standard isolated model is used to show that the base displacement can be controlled at levels in the proximity of the ground motion (T ≈ 1), which results in a positive comparison with previous isolation plus tuned mass damper solutions; this is one of the main co...

Depression is regarded as a widespread mental condition that affects people of all ages. It has a negative impact on a variety of aspects of life, including mood, vigor, and interests in enjoying activities. In the most severe cases, depression can also result in suicide. creating the chance for collaboration between mental health professionals and the use of technical tools to enhance the assessment of the severity of depression to offer the patient with an ideal clinical diagnosis and an appropriate referral to begin treatment. The COVID-19 epidemic in Peru has decreased face-to-face interaction and quick access to medical professionals, making it more difficult for patients’ mental health to be identified or treated effectively, which results in the disease becoming chronic, psychological suffering, and high costs associated with specialized care. The implementation of a technology ...

In recent years, the development of prosthetic limbs has increased due to the various studies that have been carried out around Biomechanics. These technological advances have allowed many amputee patients to return to their daily activities and, in some cases, to recover their social life. However, there are still limitations for some types of prostheses such as passive prostheses, mainly those intended for people with transtibial amputations since they do not perform the physiological function of the joints. Therefore, in-depth research on transtibial prostheses has been carried out. The search period spans from the year 2018 to the year 2021. Information was considered in a simplified and well-structured manner on the design of a transtibial electromechanical prosthesis. Therefore, we will analyze its main features related to its design and application in the patient.
