The transition of the 30S initiation complex (IC) to the translating 70S ribosome after 50S subunit joining provides an important checkpoint for mRNA selection during translation in bacteria. Here, we study the timing and control of reactions that occur during 70S IC formation by rapid kinetic techniques, using a toolbox of fluorescence-labeled translation components. We present a kinetic model based on global fitting of time courses obtained with eight different reporters at increasing concentrations of 50S subunits. IF1 and IF3 together affect the kinetics of subunit joining, but do not alter the elemental rates of subsequent steps of 70S IC maturation. After 50S subunit joining, IF2-dependent reactions take place independent of the presence of IF1 or IF3. GTP hydrolysis triggers the efficient dissociation of fMet-tRNAfMet from IF2 and promotes the dissociation of IF2 and IF1 from the ...

As of the publication of the Law on Indigenous Languages (Law 29735), the use of native languages in any public and private space has become more relevant in Peru. The proof of this are television projects that include languages other than Spanish; even the creators of this content demonstrate a position in favor of the diffusion of the native languages and their culture. The objective of this article is to analyze the translation work performed by the interpreters of the micronoticist Letras TV Willakun to evaluate it as a case of language activism in favor of theQuechua language and culture. The work concludes that, after interviewing the interpreters and part of the program’s audience, this is a case of important developing activism in the university environment, despite its difficulties in the translation process.

A 1693 document sheds light on the translation into Castilian of witness testimonies uttered in the lengua general and recorded in writing a century earlier, as part of the activities of the interpreters-general in Lima’s appellate court (audiencia). The case demonstrates the official admission of written Quechua in judicial procedures as late as the closing decades of the seventeenth century. It reinforces the idea that the use of one or more standard varieties of Quechua by litigants and interpreters made the interpretive work of these translators in plurilingual contexts such as the court’s judicial district possible.

This article, framed within the field of intermedial relations, audiovisual translation studies and transatlantic studies, aims to propose a new type of reciprocity and permeability between cinema and literature by analysing the audio-described version of the Argentinean film El secreto de sus ojos (Juan José Campanella, 2009) from the following perspective: audio-description as an example of intersemiotic translation (from images to words), subordinate (to iconic codes) and accessible. In this context, the aim is to highlight the reception and perception of a new group of viewers, namely blind and visually impaired people, by investigating the intralinguistic audio-described version produced in Argentina by the Ci Rosario Audio Description Group. This brief study will also compare the styles and quality criteria of audio description in cinema both in Europe (Germany and Spain) and in L...

The aim of this study is to identify epistemological trends in translation research published in the Renati repository of Sunedu 2013 to2020. For this purpose, substantive research at a descriptive level was carried out. Documentary analysis techniques and corpus linguistics were used to identify ontological and methodological trends in 339 translation research abstracts from four Peruvian universities: Universidad Femenina del Sagrado Corazon, Universidad Ricardo Palma, Universidad Cesar Vallejo and Universidad Peruana de Ciencias Aplicadas. The findings suggest that there is a preference for product-oriented research in translation, qualitative approach, and descriptive level. As for data collection instruments, results are varied, the most used being analysis sheets, surveys, and interviews

This research is framed within the area of translation and interpreting studies and more specifically within the field of translation didactics. The general research objective of this study is to observe and analyze the repercussions of Translation undergraduate courses at five different universities in Spain. With empirical methods combining quantitative and qualitative analysis relying on a macro-study of more than 1,000 subjects and a longitudinal study of 37 students, the research focuses specifically on the development of the strategic competence (SC) and, particularly, the student’s capacity to identify and describe translation problems. Furthermore, in the case of the longitudinal study, four hypotheses were tested against the students’ answers. In this paper, we present the results of hypothesis number 4: whether the richness of the metalanguage used by the TI students evolve...

Translation of scientifi c writing constitutes a diffi culty at Medical College from Villa Clara, Cuba; mainly, in spelling, lexical and syntactic levels: misuse of foreign words, articles, prepositions, and overuse of passive voice and gerund. Thus, a postgraduate course directed to these professionals was designed to eradicate such defi ciencies; therefore, the authors intend to show its results. Theoretical methods were applied: analysis-synthesis and induction-deduction and empirical ones: observation of the course development and a broad document review of scientifi c abstracts written by Cubans and foreigners related to Health. Consequently, the results were very favorable; 12 out of 15 students were good graded, and three were excellent. Moreover, these revealed constructive opinions about the course using PNI technique (positive, negative, interesting). It can be highlighted that...

The purpose of this paper is to analyze, from an interdisciplinary point of view, the evolution of the term culture and its relationship with the translator's cultural or intercultural competence. The role of the translator as mediator and the behavioral and attitudinal dimensions of intercultural mediation are emphasized since the translator's cultural training has traditionally been focused on the acquisition of declarative knowledge. Several approaches for developing intercultural competence are reviewed and guidelines are suggested for addressing cultural competence training in translator and interpreter curricula that meet the needs of the Peruvian context.

This study sets out to establish the effects of problem-based learning on translator instrumental competence in students of the School of Translation and Interpretation of a private university in the city of Lima. Focused on the search for explanations regarding ability to know how to translate, present and absent in university students and if this competence was due to the multiple tasks assigned. Developed within the neo-positivist paradigm, quantitative approach, substantive type, non-experimental design, deductive hypothetical method. The population consisted of 233 students and the sample of 145 calculated by random probabilistic sampling, which were supplied with a battery of questions (Likert scale). Which were validated by content, the reliability of high consistency for both variables established by Cronbach's Alpha. The hypothesis test was carried out through Spearman's Rho cor...

This study aimed at the analysis of syntactic errors in translation done by both bilingual and monolingual EFL learners. Research on the subject of the study implied that there might be differences between monolinguals and bilingual learners of foreign languages. The gaps of studies on differences between monolinguals and bilingual’s translations from Persian into English language presumed as research question of the study. Through a quantitative and experimental analysis, the researcher collected data from two universities of IAU of South Tehran (monolingual) and Jihad University of Kermanshah (bilingual) using students majoring in translation studies. The OPT test was applied to specify eligible students for the study and then a Persian literary text was offered to students to measure their syntactic errors as introduced by Keshavarz’s (1996) model of error analysis. From 100 parti...
