Many instruments are created with the primary purpose of scaling individuals on a single trait. However psychological traits are often complex and contain domain specific manifestations. As such, many instruments produce data that are consistent with both unidimensional and multidimensional structures. Unfortunately, oftentimes, applied researchers make determinations about the final structure based solely on fit indices obtained from structural equation models. Given that fit indices generally favor the bifactor model over competing measurement models it is imperative that researchers make use of the available information the bifactor has to offer in order to compute informative indices including omega reliability coefficients, construct reliability, explained common variance, and percentage of uncontaminated correlations. Said indices provide unique information about the strength of bo...

The objectives of the study were to determine the psychometric properties of the Scale of Attitudes towards Statistics in Mexico. In this instrumental study, a non-probabilistic sample of 383 Mexican psychology students who responded to two attitude scales was analyzed. The bifactor model with three specific factors (safety, pleasure-usefulness, and motivation) showed the best properties of fit and convergent validity. The average attitude was neutral and more positive in men than in women. The general factor had a high correlation with attitude towards research. It is concluded that the three-factor bifactor model represents the relationship between the items better than the original five-factor model.

The overlap between depression and anxiety is a widely-replicated finding in mental health research. The Depression, Anxiety, Stress Scales (DASS-21) were developed to maximize the discrimination between these constructs. However, research suggests that DASS-21 predominantly measure an overall factor of emotional distress. In this study, DASS-21 were translated and applied to 353 university students (Mage = 20.42; 61% women) from Lima, Peru. The confirmatory factorial analysis supported a bifactor model, but additional analyses revealed that the data were essentially one-dimensional. Moreover, when the items were subjected to a bifactor exploratory analysis, some did not load into their original specific factors. The conclusion was that DASS-21 must be interpreted as a global dimension of emotional distress.

Background: The Intolerance of Uncertainty Scale short version (IUS-12) has proven to be a robust self-report measure to assess intolerance of uncertainty. While previous psychometric analyses of the IUS-12 have established a stable two-factor structure corresponding to the prospective and inhibitory factors of intolerance of uncertainty, recent studies suggest that the bifactor model may better explain its factor structure. Objective: The current study aimed to adapt and validate the IUS-12 in a Mexican population culturally. Method: The study consisted of a convenience non-probabilistic community sample of 405 adults between 18 and 70 years. Results: Confirmatory factor analyses supported a bifactor model and good internal consistency. Invariance testing indicated partial invariance across women and men. Convergent validity tests showed that the IUS-12 was related to measures of w...

The purpose of this paper is to build and review the psychometric properties of the Brief Work Climate Scale (EBCL), therefore, an instrument comprised of 15 items in its initial version was designed, which had a Likert-type response scale with 5 alternatives, of which only 13 items had content-based validity evidence due to an Aiken’s V greater than .80, with probability of statistical significance (p < .05). The final version was applied to two sample groups (n1 = 121; n2 = 126) of employees at the operational level of two companies related to the grocery sales sector in Metropolitan Lima. In the first sample, the exploratory factorial analysis was reviewed with a Pearson correlation matrix, demonstrating the existence of two well-defined models (two oblique factor model and one-dimensional model), the first factor explained 55.4% of the accumulated variance and the second 4...

Sexual satisfaction is an essential component of general well-being, and its accurate assessment is essential in clinical and research contexts. This study aimed to analyze the psychometric properties of the New Sexual Satisfaction Scale (NSSS) in a sample of Ecuadorian university students. An instrumental approach was used with two independent samples: one of 310 participants for the exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and another of 230 for the confirmatory factor analysis (CFA). The AFE revealed a bifactor structure composed of Intrapersonal Sexual Satisfaction and Interpersonal Sexual Satisfaction, which explained 52.4 % of the total variance. Cross-loaded items were removed to improve the internal validity and structural clarity of the model. The AFC showed acceptable fit indices (CFI= 0.930, TLI= 0.918, RMSEA= 0.0811, SRMR= 0.0442), confirming the validity of the proposed model. The ...

Introduction: The Dissociative Experiences Scale (DES-II) is a widely used psychometric tool to assess dissociative symptoms. Over the years, it has been the subject of numerous studies and research in various fields of psychology and psychiatry. Numerous studies have supported the validity and reliability of the DES-II as a reliable measure of dissociative experiences. The most problematic aspect of the DES-II is the inconsistency in its factor structure. Objective: This research aimed to examine the psychometric properties of the DES-II in a clinical and non-clinical sample from Puerto Rico. Method: This research had an instrumental design. An availability sampling of 341 adult participants was used. Several competing models of the DES-II were analyzed, including a bifactor model. Result: Psychometric analyses concluded that the scale has a unidimensi...

Currently, there is evidence of an increase in displacement caused by conflicts, persecution, lack of opportunities, security, among other reasons, increasing the migrant population in Latin American countries. The displaced Venezuelans stand out, with Peru being the second country in Latin America with more than this population of migrants. Studies have warned about the devaluation of migrants and especially those who live with infectious diseases such as HIV. The autochthonous citizens of the receiving country perceive the presence of the outgroup as threats to their social rights, related to negative attitudes, which has been promoted by the media. Therefore, it is important to carry out studies that estimate the discernment of out-group threats closely towards migrants. The objective is to evaluate the psychometric evidence of the EPAE measurement instrument in a sample of Peruvian a...

The objective of the study was to develop a short version of the Positive Affect and Negative Affect Scale (PANAS), from the original version of 20 items, proposed by Watson et al. (1988a). The sample consisted of 3960 students from a public university in Lima. The results indicate that the validity of the internal structure, through exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis, was defined by 10 items and two dimensions. Positive affects are organized into five items: determined, optimistic, inspired, active, and attentive; while negative affects are in five items: irritable, hostile, angry, guilty, and ashamed. Likewise, it was found for the final short version, standardized coefficients with factorial loads between .48 and .85, as well as the fit indices of the model were in accordance with what was expected. Internal consistency reliability indicates Alpha and Omega coefficients grea...
