Multisensory integration is a fundamental neural mechanism crucial for understanding cognition. Multiple theoretical models exist to account for the computational processes underpinning this mechanism. However, there is an absence of a consolidated framework that facilitates the examination of multisensory integration across diverse experimental and computational contexts. We introduce Scikit-NeuroMSI, an accessible Python-based open-source framework designed to streamline the implementation and evaluation of computational models of multisensory integration. The capabilities of Scikit-NeuroMSI were demonstrated in enabling the implementation of multiple models of multisensory integration at different levels of analysis. Furthermore, we illustrate the utility of the software in systematically exploring the model’s behavior in spatiotemporal causal inference tasks through parameter sweep...

The academic literature has demonstrated the relevance of education not only on the economic development of society but also on the human and cultural development of individuals. That is why, one of the main challenges of governments is the access of individuals of different population groups to education and its quality, the search for the relevant sea according to the economic, historical, social and cultural context. In this sense, this document seeks to analyze the relevance of some training programs offered under an intervention model focused on the population, based on the set of factors important for the development of the individual and society, implemented a multidimensional approach that includes the educational-pedagogical, the social in conjunction with social and cultural equity, finally, the economic, institutional and political. This analysis is complemented by the descrip...

We study a system formed by M dimers through half-filled two-site Hubbard model, with two electrons. Our approach use the third version of Nonextensive Statistical Mechanics as tool for calculating thermodynamic and magnetic parameters such as entropy, internal energy, magnetization and specific heat. In the computer simulations, we vary the q entropic index values between 1 and 2, such that, q = 1.0, 1.4, 1.7 and 2.0. These values are interesting to study small magnetic systems. We find the critical temperature regions in simulations with the simple Hubbard model, i.e. without the intersite interaction. For other side, adding this additional term, we notice an enlargement and shifting of the thermodynamic parameters comparing with the obtained from simple Hubbard model; even more, we found in some cases the absence of the critical temperature regions.

One of the aspects that causes the most concern in the SMBs are the costs of managing incurred during the first years of activity, while searching for its stability and subsequent growth. Cloud computing, has become a commonly used word in the past few years, in particular the model “As a service”, because it is through this model that SMBs can access, in a more economic way to services that have traditionally been expensive. This model provides the ease of having a service that involves multi-brand computers, in the form of income and with scenarios of technological renewal; lessening the obsolescence of infrastructure, since it prescinds from own equipment. Due to the impact of cloud computing in the business applications, and in our daily lives, it can be said, that this model has come to stay; therefore, it is necessary to carry out a review of the benefits for companies.

The natural world was always considered a model of connective, coherent, and projective knowledge. Did the specialization fragmented and disarticulated this harmonic and integral structure? Currently, while facing a world that has become so complex, this specialization reformulates its analysis, reconstructs and reinterprets our problems, to rethink a systematic and restructured world through complex thinking and transdisciplinary solutions. This article evaluates particularity in university research, and reconsiders interdisciplinary, trans-complex and transdisciplinary teamwork, from connective and integral Andean thinking based on the nuclear and harmonic organization between nature, man and society. From this Andean framework, we recover the «aylluy» thought (trans-complex simplicity, unity, and sustainability) as a research model for the educational process and the environment. Fo...

The paper develops a model that improves the measurement of correlations present in stress scenarios through the use of copulas, reorders the propagation of shocks and involves expert judgments to improve predictions through a Bayesian VAR, it is shown that, under scenarios of a systemic crisis, losses can reach high percentages. Considering a loss rate associated with counterparty default of 45% and a default threshold between 4% and 8% suggested by the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision, it is estimated that an external shock can generate falls of more than 10% in the different financial variables: the savings rate, stock market indexes, the exchange rate, among others. If a counterparty defaults, it generates 45% of the associated losses (exposure), each institution absorbs 45% of its exposures. The model constructed is applicable to regulatory agencies because it exposes a propag...

The use of concrete as a structural element increases year by year. However, this product needs very stringent control of its mechanical properties in order to be uses as structural element. This type of control requires to have very large testing equipment with a load capacity of up to 3.000KN. Production control would benefit greatly from the use of a highly reliable alternative method that would enable the mechanical properties to be found through more easily obtained physical and mechanical properties. The high capacity of artificial neural networks (ANN) to model a broad range of industrial processes makes them a very useful instrument in the concrete industry. In this study, one neural network was developed to obtain the properties of compressive strength. This property was then modeled though the composition of concrete and manufacturing parameters. The network designed, a multila...

Self-control is a relevant concept for understanding human behavior across different areas of life. It is associated with positive aspects in various domains and has a pragmatic value as a prerequisite for the successful achievement of long-term goals. In this regard, there are different theories and approaches to the study of self-control. Gaining a deeper understanding of the psychological mechanisms involved in this capacity could guide the design of more effective strategies to foster its development across different contexts. This narrative review article focuses on an updated overview of two of the main theoretical models of this construct, identifying potential similarities and differences. First, Roy F. Baumeister’s model proposes that self-control is a limited resource similar to a muscle. Self-control fatigue is known as “ego depletion”. Second, Kentaro Fujita’s model s...

In this paper it is proposed a teachinglearning model and waist waving whose aim is strengthens the cultural identity in teachers and students of the High Schools in Mochumí disctrict because through the ethnographic observation and application of interviews, it shows that teachers do not practice or transmit to future generations the Muchik language, the waist waving and aspects pertaining to their ancestral culture. Students do not know about their heritage. They believe the Lord of Sipán spoke Quechua and not the Muchik; they do not know that our ancestors made their clothes through the weaving waist technique which is still practiced. Faced with this problem, it was set out to design and propose this proactive-descriptive model through an appropriate theoretical foundation which was presented to teachers in the sample group through a focus group in order to gather their opinions ab...

We use the approach of Qu and Perron (2013) for the modeling and inference of volatility of a set of commodity prices in the presence of level shifts of unknown timing, magnitude and frequency. The model has two features: (i) it is a stochastic volatility model comprising both a level shift and a short-memory process where the .rst component is modeled as a compounded binomial process while the second one is an AR(1) process; (ii) the model is estimated using Bayesian techniques in order to obtain posterior distributions of the parameters and the two latent components. We use six commodity series: agriculture, livestock, gold, oil, industrial metals and a general commodity index. All series cover the period from January 1983 until December 2013 in daily frequency. The results show that although the occurrence of a level shift is rare (about once every 1.5 or 1.8 years), this component cl...

Here we present a model aimed at contributing to the literature around sustainable supply chains by examining a novel redesign initiative of the chocolate supply chain within the Peruvian cacao (cocoa) industry. Using the Creating Shared Value (CSV) framework, we apply the case study method in examining the Peruvian Cacao Alliance’s experience in redesigning both the stages and relationships within its supply of cacao to the world. Data were collected from both primary and secondary sources and analyzed after coding from categories defined in the literature on CSV. The case demonstrates the opportunity to successfully participate in the supply chains of globally recognized, consumer-facing chocolate brands while simultaneously obtaining social, economic and environmental benefits for the rural communities that supply cacao. While addressing both social and business gains remains fairly...

During the last decade of the Twentieth century Peru has undertaken a public firms' privatization process involving the transfer of ownership at firms producing intermediate goods to foreign investors. This essay proposes a model for assesing the macroeconomic effects produced by the privatization of this kind of companies on the telecommunication industry. By using National income as a reference unit for measuring impacts, the model captures analytically, as short-term effects the rise in the relative prices of telephone services along with the transfer of poverty and the filling of the market gap led by the raise in service coverage. Furthermore, the model finds in the long-term a positive effect from the consequences of technological innovation at the sector, in the end a source of endogenous growth. Synthesizing, the essay concludes that a priori it is impossible to determine the nat...

How to approach higher education for training in applied research in a "change of epoch" where knowledge has become a substantial asset to the generation of value in goods and services in organizations? What strategy should be implemented when its efficiency tends to be measured through mechanisms external to the research areas of the university? Two questions that allow, on the one hand, going the traditional way in which the university reiterates trivial mechanisms for engineering research training, and, on the other, the holistic -systemic-cybernetic- approach that promotes this same training in the context of complexity. In this paper, a finite element model is presented to predict the hydrodynamics around hydrofoils. The proposed model solves the equations of conservation of mass and momentum, including advection, pressure and shear stress terms. To describe the influence of turbulence, the Prandtl- Kolmogorov model is considered. A transport equation is included in the formulation to simulate the evolution of water vapor fraction. Weakly reflective boundary conditions are imposed on open boundaries to avoid the intense reflections of the pressure waves that generate instability. Various numerical experiments are performed using the hydrodynamic profile NACA 0012. The non permanent model results reproduce the essential characteristics of the flows around the hidrofoils in various cases. The model is able to describe the mixture of liquid and vapor when the pressure is below the vapor pressure during cav...

Purpose – The traditional one-stage constant growth formula has two main underlying assumptions: a company will be able to maintain its competitive advantage for completed investments in perpetuity and each year in the future it will be able to generate new investment opportunities with the same competitive advantage which will also remain in perpetuity. The purpose of this paper is to develop a model that limits the duration of the competitive advantage. Design/methodology/approach – A new model is developed and it is used to value a public company. Findings – In this study the author introduces an alternative formula considering the duration of the competitive advantage imposing a restriction on the fact that extraordinary returns cannot be sustained forever and also separates the part of the value explained by the current investments from the portion of value created by future i...

Outsourcing contributes to business development. On some occasions, in order to secure low-cost bids, contractors agree to work under unsafe conditions; on other occasions, the client exerts pressure so that the service is completed ahead of schedule, causing contractors to take “shortcuts” and evade safety controls, which increases the risk of serious injury, chronic illness or even death. In Peru, there is no contractor management model in place to improve safety conditions and promote third-party productivity. Via statistical tests and correlation of variables, this research has developed and implemented a management model that describes the minimum requirements that must be met to avoid incidents and improve contractor productivity. It includes regulations from recognized national and international agencies and encompasses the best work practices acquired in more than 30 years of...
