Recent international evaluations regarding educational level have revealed that Peru is in the rankings of countries with the lowest performance in various subjects, including mathematics. The Polya method is presented as a solution to this serious situation, which assures that if its four steps are considered, better results will be obtained than the traditional method of teaching mathematics. This study narrates the application of a motivational program, in which the Polya method was applied in order to improve the solving of mathematical problem solving in the third grade of secondary school in educational institutions in Peru. The researchers identified two groups of students, one composed of 39 students in which mathematics was taught applying the traditional method (control group), and another group of students composed of 41 students in which this program was applied (experimental...

The objective was to evaluate the effect of the application of the GeoGebra software on the problem-solving skills of two-dimensional geometric figures in a sample of 53 university students distributed in two groups (control -experimental) evaluated in two moments: before and after the intervention. . Parametric tests were used to compare independent and related pairs and nonparametric tests were used to compare between classification levels. The results showed that the post-test experimental group was the one that presented the best performance, demonstrating that the use of GeoGebra software improved the solving skills of this type of mathematical problems, promoting collaborative work, social-student integration and improvement of the classroom climate. It is recommended to extend the use of this tool with other applications that help the teaching-learning process.

One of the most critical and still unsolved problems is the low reading comprehension of texts in Peruvian high school students. This critical problem has been corroborated by international tests such as PISA (2015, 2018) and a variety of studies by researchers who have become aware of this worrying situation. In this scenario, the present research study aims to establish whether the Lectoryn module had any influence on literal reading comprehension of texts in students in the first year of Basic Regular Education. In order to achieve this objective, the study used a quantitative approach and a quasi-experimental design. As data collection instruments, tests (pre-test and post test) were used on an intact sample of 51 students (control group, n=24; and experimental group, n=27). The results showed that in the pre-test both groups were at the Initial level and, after the impl...

The French critical zone initiative, called OZCAR (Observatoires de la Zone Critique–Application et Recherche or Critical Zone Observatories–Application and Research) is a National Research Infrastructure (RI). OZCAR-RI is a network of instrumented sites, bringing together 21 pre-existing research observatories monitoring different compartments of the zone situated between “the rock and the sky,” the Earth’s skin or critical zone (CZ), over the long term. These observatories are regionally based and have specific initial scientific questions, monitoring strategies, databases, and modeling activities. The diversity of OZCAR-RI observatories and sites is well representative of the heterogeneity of the CZ and of the scientific communities studying it. Despite this diversity, all OZCAR-RI sites share a main overarching mandate, which is to monitor, understand, and predict (“earth...

The number of students who decide to enroll in Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) located away from their homeland is increasing every year across the globe. This quantitative change is bringing about a qualitative transformation as the HE sector is becoming one more globalized industry. Together with this growth, the academic offer of study programs delivered in a foreign language (most frequently-English) is also incrementing the level of complexity that HEIs while managing the cultural diversity of the university auditorium. HEIs are naturally lured into his attractive prospect to welcome a larger number of students; however, few are the HEIs truly ready and able to face the challenges that such complex phenomenon implies. A culturally diverse university class can certainly have both positive and negative impact on the teaching and learning processes. The purpose of this article is ...

Differently from other regions in the Planet, since 2010, in Latin America textual programming language (Rhinoscripting) is being replaced by its visual equivalent (Grasshopper). This is a consequence of our preference for an interactive platform, and because our design problems are not as complex, so we aim to control geometrical problems or aspects belonging to an product scale instead of an architectural one. Problems emerging when creating code could be improved by modifying and reusing existing solutions as a starting point, since learning would not be centered in the object but in the process of creating it, using a suitable instrument.
