Water is an essential good for human life; therefore, it is not strange that in the history of humanity certain cultures have even attributed religious values ​​to it. Currently, fresh water seems to be becoming increasingly scarce and its management presents significant problems, which has led to reconsidering the values ​​attributed to this resource, and the way in which it is assigned to its different uses. Traditionally, water has been distributed through a variety of social agreements, but not through markets, based on the validity of private property rights over water.

The aim of the study was to determine the frequency and characterize testicularanatomo-histopathological alterations in alpacas slaughtered in Nuñoa, Puno.Macroscopic examination of the testes was carried out in 177 alpacas, which 102 showedsmaller size and low weight, and also uni or bilateral epididymal cysts. Tissue sampleswere fixed with the Bouin solution during 28 hours and stained with Haematoxylin andEosin, Periodic Acid Schiff and Masson’s Trichromic stain. The frequency of testicularalterations was 13.7%, corresponding to nonspecific lymphocytic infiltration (7.8%),testicular absence (2.9%), testicular degeneration (1.0%), hidrocele (1.0%), and teratoma(1.0%). Besides, there was 32.2% of epididymal cysts, but without statistical associationwith age or breed.

The aim of this study was to determine the Giardia sp. prevalence in household dog populations on the six districts of the Provincia Constitucional del Callao. Fecal samples were collected from 385 apparently healthy dogs of various ages and processed by the spontaneous sedimentation technique. The results indicated the 9.4 ± 2% (36/385) of the canine population were positive to Giardia sp. cysts. Relationships between cysts detection and fecal samples characteristics, and origin, sex and age of dogs were analyzed by logistic regression. A significant statistical relationship was found between Giardia sp. detection and physical characteristics of fecal samples. Results show a moderate Giardia sp. infection in dogs which evidences a zoonotic risk that highlight the necessity of setting up educational programmes in order to prevent Giardia sp. Objective: To determine the prevalence of human fasciolosis in an endemic area by means of an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) using cystatin as a capture agent for the detection of specific antibodies to Fasciola hepatica cysteine proteinases. Material and methods: An ELISA plate was sensitized with cystatin, incubated with excretory-secretory products of adult flukes, and followed by standard ELISA procedures. Clinical applicability of the cystatin capture ELISA for the immunodiagnosis of fasciolosis was tested with 200 serum samples of children and adults from an endemic area in Chupaca province, Junin department. Results: Serum samples from the endemic area tested by cystatin capture ELISA showed 27/ 200 (13,5%) of positive cases. Conclusions: Fasciolosis remains a major health problem at Chupaca province, Junin department.

The composition and abundance of the zooplankton of El Morro lagoon on the island of Margarita, Venezuela, during the upwelling period (March-May 2011) and relaxation (June-August 2011) were analyzed. Samples were collected at 6 stations in different areas of the lagoon. Sampling was performed with a 333 μm plankton net for 10 minutes. Water Temperature, salinity and dissolved oxygen were measured in situ, in addition to nutrients. Average water temperature values of 29.7 °C, a salinity of 36 ups, and dissolved oxygen of 5.9 mg.L-1 were found. The concentration of nutrients was low (averages of 0.12, 0.04, 0.03 mg.L-1 for nitrate, nitrite and phosphate, respectively). OBJECTIVES: To determine the rates and risk factors associated with perinatal mortality. DESIGN: Descriptive, analytical study, cross-sectional, case-control type. MATERIALS AND METHODS: 4413 medical records from the database the Perinatal Information System of births that occurred between January 1998 and December 1999 were reviewed in the institution. Se determinó la frecuencia y se caracterizó las alteraciones anátomo-histopatológicas testiculares en alpacas beneficiadas en la zona de Nuñoa, Puno. Se hizo el examen macroscópico de los testículos de 177 alpacas, donde 102 presentaron tamaño y peso disminuido, además de quistes epididimarios uni o bilaterales. Muestras de tejido testicular se fijaron con Solución de Bouin por 28 horas, y se tiñeron con Hematoxilina y Eosina, Ácido Periódico de Schiff y Tricrómico de Masson.
