A major problem in water companies is to detect leaks in underground pipes as water is a limited source. For many years, acoustics techniques have been used to reduce this problem enhancing leak detection positioning estimation. The correlation of leak noise signals is one of these techniques. Moreover, using the time difference of the arrival of the leak noise at the sensors, and knowledge of the speed at which the noise propagates in the pipe, the distance of the leak from one of the sensor positions can be estimated. This paper describes the importance of the bandwidth selection in the estimation of the time delay. Experimental cases from a test rig in Brazil are shown to support.

This work proposes a computational algorithm which extracts the frequency, timings and signal segments corresponding to respiratory phases, through buccal and nasal acoustic signal processing. The proposal offers a computational solution for medical applications which require on-site or remote patient monitoring and evaluation of pulmonary pathologies, such as coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). The state of the art presents a few respiratory evaluation proposals through buccal and nasal acoustic signals. Most proposals focus on respiratory signals acquired by a medical professional, using stethoscopes and electrodes located on the thorax. In this case the signal acquisition process is carried out through the use of a low cost and easy to use mask, which is equipped with strategically positioned and connected electret microphones, to maximize the proposed algorithm's performance. The al...

Sleepiness could cause different accidents at work and in our daily lives. Activities such as driving a car, handling heavy machinery, being in charge of controlling a satellite or monitoring a nuclear plant, are activities that require short visual and motor reaction times. These reactions could be affected by sleepiness. The highest number of these accidents is related to vehicular accidents. WHO statistics show that 1.2 million people worldwide die every year due to road crashes, 50 million people are injured, and more than 3,000 people die daily from road traffic injuries. The primary objective of the present work is to develop a tool based on techniques of artificial intelligence and image processing that can detect states of sleepiness in people whose work needs the greatest attention-to avoid accidents. The idea is to develop an algorithm that can be executed on a computer and thr...

This paper will briefly overview how the constant development of information and communication technologies (ICTs) has changed the interaction between people today. Real experiences have been transferred to a virtualized method, in this case, the internet. Although the space-time barriers of traditional communication have been fragmented, social relations have become more assertive, but new problems related to different behaviors arise. Bullying is defined as an act that threatens the well-being of a person and becomes cyberbullying when it is carried out over the internet, generating large-scale problems of anxiety, depression, and even the act of suicide, which is why it is essential to detect these malicious behaviors in time. We will use a Natural Language Processing (NLP) tool using Twitter as the basis for the extraction of knowledge bases.

In 2013, clinically suggestive cases of PEDv were reported in pig farms in Lima and Arequipa, reaching up to 100% mortality in piglets and negative results to other viral agents such as classical swine fever (CPPv) and transmissible gastroenteritis (TGEv). For this reason, the aim of this study was to isolate and molecularly detect PEDv strains in Lima pig farms. A total of 37 stool samples and intestinal contents of piglets between 2 and 21 days of age with clinical signs suggestive of PEDv from pig farms of the department of Lima, Peru were collected. Results showed that 94.3% (35/37) were positive by the immunochromatography (IHC) test; 97.1% (34/35) of them were confirmed by RT-PCR real-time that amplified a 101-bp segment of the ORF3 gene of the PEDv. The control and positive samples showed a threshold cycle (Ct) between 10 and 21 cycles with a melting temperature (Tm) of 77.7 °C. ...

Infectious diseases such as COVID-19, dengue, diphtheria, etc., are spreading throughout the world, just like in Peru. Some of the symptoms of these diseases are similar. Rapid diagnosis is not available in this case, especially in regions with limited medical facilities. In addition, some people are unaware of the symptoms caused by these diseases. The objective of the research is to design a rule-based web expert system prototype using the Buchanan and Rational Unified Process (RUP) methodology and evaluate to determine the feasibility of building the system for early detection and timely treatment of infectious diseases such as COVID-19, Zika, Dengue, Diphtheria, Influenza, Chikungunya, and Monkeypox. The result was a prototype of an expert system with friendly and easy-to-use interfaces. In addition, the quality level of the prototype was evaluated through expert judgment, who analyz...

Internet of Things (IoT) has posed new requirements to the underlying processing architecture, specially for real-time applications, such as event-detection services. Complex Event Processing (CEP) engines provide a powerful tool to implement these services. Fog computing has raised as a solution to support IoT real-time applications, in contrast to the Cloud-based approach. This work is aimed at analysing a CEP-based Fog architecture for real-time IoT applications that uses a publish-subscribe protocol. A testbed has been developed with low-cost and local resources to verify the suitability of CEP-engines to low-cost computing resources. To assess performance we have analysed the effectiveness and cost of the proposal in terms of latency and resource usage, respectively. Results show that the fog computing architecture reduces event-detection latencies up to 35%, while the available com...

The detection of marine vessels for revenue control has many tracking deficiencies, which has resulted in losses of logistical resources, time, and money. However, digital cameras are not fully exploited since they capture images to recognize the vessels and give immediate notice to the control center. The analyzed images go through an incredibly detailed process, which, thanks to neural training, allows us to recognize vessels without false positives. To do this, we must understand the behavior of object detection; we must know critical issues such as neural training, image digitization, types of filters, and machine learning, among others. We present results by comparing two development environments with their corresponding algorithms, making the recognition of ships immediately under neural training. In conclusion, it is analyzed based on 100 images to measure the boat detection capab...

The research studies the dynamics of the volatility of the nominal exchange rate of the Peruvian nuevo sol against the US dollar, with the aim of identifying signs of dependencies over long time distances. The existence of persistence in the increases in yields and the volatility process is explored by applying two tests based on periodograms, the Hurst exponent is estimated, its consistency over time and the graphical analysis of its distributions for the subsequent application of the algorithm of complex dynamics. For this objective, the time series of the nominal exchange rate of the nuevo sol against the dollar from January 3, 2013 to February 11, 2021 is used. A nongeometric decay was identified in the correlograms in its nonlinear transformation and estimates of the fractional integration parameter d > 0 together with the empirical and rescaled Hurst estimates H > 0.5, therefore it...

This study shows the results of investigations to determine harmonics in electrical current through the use of Artificial Neural Networks (ANN) using the methods of Feedforward-Backpropagation through a generator of electrical signals in C# (C Sharp). We studied the causes of current harmonics, what a re its implications in everyday work and filters to attenuate these harmonics. For generation of harmonics, we implemented a transmitter of electrical signals by software, also developed in C# (C Sharp) so as to obtain raw and real data as possible, in order to perform tests for simulating errors in the signal power that occur in real time and then process this data.It was determined that the best method for the detection of harmonics using Artificial Neural Networks is Feedforward — Backpropagation with supervised training in order to handle the input and output to get a better result.Th...

When breast cancer is detected and treated early, the chances of survival are very high. However, women in many settings face complex barriers to early detection, including social, economic, geographic, and other interrelated factors, which can limit their access to timely, affordable, and effective breast health care services. Previously, the Breast Health Global Initiative (BHGI) developed resource-stratified guidelines for the early detection and diagnosis of breast cancer. In this consensus article from the sixth BHGI Global Summit held in October 2018, the authors describe phases of early detection program development, beginning with management strategies required for the diagnosis of clinically detectable disease based on awareness education and technical training, history and physical examination, and accurate tissue diagnosis. The core issues address include finance and governanc...

Varicose veins also known as venous insufficiency, are dilated veins due to an accumulation of blood that occurs in different parts of the body, the most common are in the legs, in addition to having a higher index in women for clothing style that they use. Varicose veins are classified by grades ranging from I to IV and can cause pain, itching, cramps and even ulcers if they are treated in time. Not all varicose veins can be visible superficially, many of them begin inside of the skin. According to the WHO (World Health Organization) 10% of the world population has varicose veins. That is why the detection of suspicions of varicose veins in the legs was raised in this research work, first a thermal image will be obtained using the FLIR ONE Pro thermal camera following a necessary protocol of distance and temperature range. The thermal image is processed in MATLAB to identify the segment...
