Se presenta la experiencia de cólera y gestación en el Hospital María Auxiliadora durante la epidemia de 1991. Entre el 1 de Febreo y el 31 de Mayo de 1991 se atendió 54 casos de cólera en mujeres embarazadas, dentro de un total de 1820 partos y 5,969 casos de cólera atendidos. La frecuencia entonces es de 1 caso de cólera y gestación por cada 33 partos. La procedencia de pacientes estuvo mayormente concentrada en Villa El Salvador, Villa María del Triunfo y San Juan de Miraflores. Los casos de cólera se presentaron con mayor frecuencia y mayor intensidad en el tercer trimestre del embarazo. Todos los casos recibieron hidratación parenteral con cloruro de sodio y solución polielectrolítica, complementada con administración de sales de rehidratación oral. OBJECTIVE: To identify thesis that contribute to support or disclaim pregnancy interruption in cases of anencephaly. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Search of current internet literature, available magnetic media or edited documents. Anencephaly frequency, related factors, repercussions on the mother, fetus and newborn associated problems, prevention, and both ethical and legal arguments were reviewed. RESULTS: Anencephaly has variable frequency; its origin in based on both genetic and environment factors. There are repercussions on mother‘s physical and mental health and fetal and newborn organs and systems. These considerations avail anencephaly as a medical, ethical and legal indication for pregnancy interruption. CONCLUSION: Anencephaly justifies pregnancy interruption when requested by the mother.

The efforts of the health sector should be aimed at increasing the coverage and improve the quality of care, which must be based on good organization of services. At the same time, the organization must have an adequate system of information, which should have as support an appropriate history and a fast flow of information.

Gender based violence is related to the power imbalance between men and women that is present, to a greater or lesser degree, in all societies. It was almost recently recognized as a human rights problem by the United Nations. It includes emotional, physical and sexual violence. Sexual violence is the extreme form of gender violence, usually accompanied by the other types of violence. Its prevalence is difficult to determine, but it most probably affects at least one third of women sometime in their life. It has multiple consequences over women’s physical and gynecological health, which greatly depends on the quality of care the woman received immediately after the assault. Epidemiological surveillance of maternal mortality (VEMM) is the component of health information system that facilitates the identification, reporting, identification and quantification of the causes of maternal death and the probability of its prevention in geographic areas and certain periods, with to contribute to the development of measures to reduce them. This review presents the steps VEMM guided by PAHO and the experience reported by the Ministry of Health with the system of maternal death VE operated in Peru since 1999 and its use for decision-making is reviewed .

Objective: To determine gender based violence prevalence in reproductive health services users and to motivate heath protessionals to detect these cases using an easy questionnaire. DESIGN: Survey type transversal descriptive study. Material and Methods: Two hundred and ninety-eight reproductive health services users at three Lima hospitals, between May and July 2002. Study searched for history of psychological, physical and sexual violence as well as sexual abuse during childhood. Time of violence and the relation between aggressor and the victim were identified. Data was processed with EpiInfo at the Campinas-Brasil University and Inppares.
