Cervical cancer is one of the main causes of death by disease worldwide. In Peru, it holds the first place in frequency and represents 8% of deaths caused by sickness. To detect the disease in the early stages, one of the most used screening tests is the cervix Papanicolaou test. Currently, digital images are increasingly being used to improve Pap test efficiency. This work develops an algorithm based on adaptive thresholds, which will be used in Pap smear assisted quality control software. The first stage of the method is a pre-processing step, in which noise and background removal is done. Next, a block is segmented for each one of the points selected as not background, and a local threshold per block is calculated to search for cell nuclei. n this paper we present a robust and improved system for diabetic retinopathy (DR) screening. The goal of the system is to automatically screen out digital fundus photographs of diabetic patients who do not present signs of DR. This work is motivated by the large amount of diabetics in the world who do not receive their recommended eye exams, leading to widespread blindness as a complication of diabetes. The system is based on multiscale amplitude-modulation frequency-modulation (AM-FM) methods for feature extraction, and uses supervised and unsupervised methods to produce its final output, namely, a normal or abnormal grade. The oralization settlement in the labor process has implied a different dynamic from that previously had. But this has not been the only change in the labor reform. Therefore, the new procedural system has incorporated diversity legal process forms of settlement agreements. Thus, the employer or employee can exercise their right of action to resort to other mechanisms that resolve disagreement in the employment relationship. This new legislative method has brought us to establish two antagonistic positions: on the one hand, some who support the viability of applying the availability test based on private autonomy and the initiative of part in the process; and on the other hand, those who argue, under the principle of inalienability, the protective role that the judge should have against these processes.

OBJECTIVE: To assess the relationship between the postpartum oral glucose tolerance test (PPOGTT) and fetal macrosomia and its usefulness as a retrospective diagnostic method of gestational diabetes. DESIGN: Prospective case –control study. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Mothers with macrosomic infants (n = 71) and controls (n = 71) were studied. PPOGTT was determined in all of them using 100 grams of glucose 8 to 48 hours postpartum. Data processing used SPSS 10,0. RESULTS: Abnormal PPOGTT is a risk factor to fetal macrosomia with an adjusted odds ratio (OR) 5,9 (95%CI 2,6-13,4). There is association with a previous history of macrosomia OR 15,7 (95CI 1,9-123,6) and with prenatal control OR 5,7 (95%CI 1,2-26,8). CONCLUSIONS: PPOGTT may identify a subset of women with macrosomic infants who had gestational diabetes; we may consider it a retrospective diagnostic test.

The Rorschach test has considerable potential to contribute to the study of cognitive processes, especially the representational world and of how individuals construct meaning. The representation of self and other is currently a major topic in attachment research and in social cognition and is very relevant for clinical psychology and psychiatry because it provides a way of understanding psychopathology that goes beyond the simple listing of manifest symptoms that is so prevalent today in descriptive psychiatry. This new emphasis on mental representation should enable us to extend our understanding of psychopathology and to discover new ways of systematically assessing a wide range of psychological disturbances.

A novel method to prepare BC nanocomposites reinforced with reduced graphene oxide (RGO) is reported. A simple hydrazine treatment is shown to in-situ reduce the graphene oxide (GO) incorporated to BC films while increasing their conductivity. Raman spectroscopy was used to confirm the presence of graphene and assess the effect of the hydrazine treatment on its structure. XRD tests revealed no changes on BC structure. We hypothesize that this treatment removes the hydroxyl and epoxy groups present on the reduced graphene and increases the content of nonoxygenated carbon. These changes account for the increase in conductivity of the BC-based films, which behaved as an insulating material before the hydrazine treatment and reach an average conductivity value of 12 S/m after such a treatment.

The absence of a methodology to analyze the micoflora in amaranth's seed, has motivated the performing of the present work. Seeds of two cultivars were sown (with and without disinfection process before sowing) on Petri dishes, some with "Blotter test" paper and others with five agarized culture media. All of them were placed in a chamber with 26 ºC± 2 and 16 h of photoperiod, and were incubated during seven days. After this period of time, the maximum number of different fungi genera developed on each substrate was registered, and the seed germination percentage was calculated. A total of fourteen genera of fungi (field and storage ones) were found, being Alternaria the most frequently isolated. In relation to the maximum number of fungi genera found, significant differences among the media analyzed (p>0,001) were detected, resulting the media APG, CZ and PCA the most effective one...

This paper involves a practical approach to perform quality-control/quality-assessment of concrete using vibration-based NDT. The first component is the analysis of compressive strength and dynamic E-modulus of concrete samples from various construction projects. The second component involves continuous measurements of E-Moduli as a function of curing time in laboratory-controlled specimens. The experimental program allowed proposing a correlation to predict the expected static and dynamic E-modulus at 28 days from their measurement at any instant of the curing process. A similar relationship is proposed to predict compressive strength at 28 days based on the dynamic E-modulus measured at earlier ages.

We extend the class of M-tests for a unit root analyzed by Perron and Ng (1996) and Ng and Perron (1997) to the case where a change in the trend function is allowed to occur at an unknown time. These tests M(GLS) adopt the GLS detrending approach of Dufour and King (1991) and Elliott, Rothenberg and Stock (1996) (ERS). Following Perron (1989), we consider two models: one allowing for a change in slope and the other for both a change in intercept and slope. We derive the asymptotic distribution of the tests as well as that of the feasible point optimal tests PT(GLS) suggested by ERS. The asymptotic critical values of the tests aretabulated. Also, we compute the non-centrality parameter used for the local GLS detrending that permits the tests to have 50% asymptotic power at that value. The study was conducted in a State Educational Institution of the Constitutional Province of Callao, Peru. Type pre experimental with one group pre and posttest, aimed to determine the improvement of Inferential Reading Skills - HIL, through the design and implementation of a program of Iconic method based on experimental evidence in the study of understanding and learning (Estaún, 1998; Monge, 1992; Rengifo and Marulanda, 2007), in a sample of 93 students averaging between eight and nine years old. An instrument being elaborated based on the theories of Goodman (2002) and Inga (2009); to measure these skills. The implementation of the program was more effective in the ability to solve problems.

Morris water maze (MWM) test is widely used to evaluate the learning and memory deficits in rodents. Image processing and pattern recognition can be used to analyse videos and recognize automatically the tracking in MWM. There are several commercial and free access software that allows analyzing the behavioral tasks although they also have limitations such as automation, cost, user intervention among other things. The aim of this paper was to develop a new image processing technique to automatically analyse the track of the rat in the MWM, which we called RatsTrack. The application of different unit root statistics is by now a standard practice in empirical work. Even when it is a practical issue, these statistics have complex nonstandard distributions depending on functionals of certain stochastic processes, and their derivations represent a barrier even for many theoretical econometricians. These derivations are based on rigorous and fundamental statistical tools which are not (very) well known by standard econometricians. This paper considers the proposal, development and numerical simulation of a system that models the behavior of the treatment of HIV-1 using antiretrovirals.
