The dry forests of northern Peru are home to extensive populations of algarrobo (Neltuma spp.). Its fruit serves as feed for goats and is used in various agro-industrial products. However, the nutritional quality can be influenced by the physicochemical properties of the soil and vegetation coverage. The objective of this study was to understand and predict the concentration of protein and ether extracts of carob and evaluate its relationship with soil properties and vegetation indices. Principal component analysis (PCA) and correlation analyses were conducted. The prediction of protein and ether extract was carried out using the Eureqa-Formulize software 1.24.0. In the PCA, protein showed a positive relationship with ash and ether extract but a negative relationship with moisture. Likewise, moderate correlations were observed between protein and ash content (0.51). Protein also showed p...

The impact of temperature and air velocity on the drying of pituca (Colocasia esculenta) sheets was investigated. The samples, 1.5 mm thick, were subjected to a tray dryer at three temperatures (45, 50 and 55 °C) and three air velocities (2.5; 3.0 and 3.5 m/s). After grinding the dried sheets, the physicochemical, microbiological and sensory properties of the pituca flour were analyzed. The findings indicated that the drying curves conformed to the exponential model proposed by Herdenson and Pabis, with a coefficient of determination greater than 96%. The optimum treatment, T9, used a temperature of 55 °C and a speed of 3.5 m/s. It showed a critical moisture of 1.53 g/g dry pituca, an equilibrium moisture of 0.9 g/g dry pituca, and a critical time of 20 minutes. Values for ash, moisture, mesophilic aerobes, molds and yeasts were recorded at 3.37%, 8.04%, 9.90x103 CFU/g, and 2.40x103 ...

This study was carried out in the main Escarcha variety peach producing area in the state of Tlaxcala, Mexico. Soil parameters were evaluated in plots with different management and some quality criteria in the fruit, to later relate them through a Principal Component Analysis (PCA). The results of the soil characterization evidenced a predominance of the sand fraction, low concentration of organic matter and total N, and few exchange sites. Yields of 10.88 to 11.66 t ha-1 were obtained. Through the PCA it was observed that the predictor variables in the case of the soil, in the main component one (CP1) were organic matter, organic carbon, total nitrogen and phosphorus; in CP2 were the apparent density, porosity, pH and the humification index. In the case of the fruit, in CP1 were weight, equatorial diameter, maturity index and number of fruits, and in CP2 were total titratable acidity an...

The anatomy of the unopened spear leaf of the chambira palm (Astrocaryum chambira), from which chambira fiber is extracted, is described and compared with that of three species (Astrocaryum jauari, occasionally used for fiber extraction, A. standleyanum and A. perangustatum, which do not provide any fiber). Chambira fiber consists of non-vascular fiber strands closely adhered to the adaxial hypodermis; this forms a compact unit, which makes it easy to separate from the rest of the lamina. A similar arrangement is found in Astrocaryum jauari; however, the non-vascular fiber cells are shorter and fewer per strand. Differences in leaf anatomy of Astrocaryum standleyanum and A. perangustatum may explain why fiber is not extracted: Astrocaryum standleyanum has a dense row of non-vascular fibrous strands under the adaxial hypodermis similar to Astrocaryum chambira but the large size of non-vas...

Revolutions are like Saturn, which devour their own children; a saying designed in correspondence with one of the most merciless gods of roman mithology, where no revolution was known without destruction or violence, seeking a change through violence; apart from taking victims opponents, it took the same revolutionaries when their own violence unleashed would turn against themselves. Those revolutions, which are frozen in the past for historical records, are today being replaced by one that increases in validity and authenticity. A Revolution that does not need to destroy to transform lives, to revive hopes and to transmit enthusiasm to its most fascinated followers, and even to those who still maintain themselves skeptics. On the contrary, it needs to create, invent and innovate in order to achieve its real and original mission.Creations with identity and defense guaranteed by a r...

The purpose of this study was to translate the Bedtime Procrastination Scale (BPS) into Spanish and to evaluate its psychometric properties. A sample of 419 students from three Peruvian universities participated in the study. Confirmatory factor analysis was conducted to evaluate the original model of the scale, which initially showed poor fit indices. Improved fit indices were obtained after removing reverse-scored item, χ²(5) = 9.240, CFI = .998, RMSEA = .045, TLI = .997, and SRMR = .013. The internal consistency of the scale, examined using the omega coefficient, was found to be satisfactory (ω = .86). Moreover, measurement invariance analysis supported gender invariance, indicating that the scale functions equivalently across male and female participants. Additionally, convergent validity was assessed by examining the correlations between the BPS and insomnia, as measured by the A...

The development of transportation infrastructure plays a fundamental role in promoting tourism activities by enhancing the accessibility to various destinations. The quality of paved roads particularly influences the flow of trade and tourism. The research focused on evaluating the influence of the addition of metallurgical slag (MS) to the mechanical properties of flexible pavements. A sample of 60 briquettes underwent testing using the Marshall method with different levels of MS addition: 5 %, 8 %, 12 %, and 15 %. The results revealed that a combination of 4.5 % asphalt content (AC) and 12 % MS proved to be suitable in terms of stability, reaching a value of 1540.3 kg, as well as an average flow of 2.73 cm. Consequently, it is concluded that the inclusion of MS enhances the mechanical properties of the asphalt layer, suggesting that this material could be used in the design of mixtures...

The study aimed to explore the psychometric properties of research competency scales published in the scientific literature in seven databases: Scopus, Web Of Science, ERIC, Embase, EBSCO, PubMed and SciELO between 2014 and June 2023. Thirteen papers were systematized, where 11 scales were found that measured content validity using indexes such as the S-CVI, Aiken's V and item-test correlations. Similarly, the results of the exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) presented adequate fit indices such as CFI, GFI, TLI, SRMR and RMSEA, which validated the factor structure. Reliability was mostly evaluated through Cronbach's Alpha coefficient, yielding high and consistent values. In addition, coefficients such as McDonald's Omega, ordinal Omega, Guttman and Spearman Brown have been used, all reflecting a value above .70 and internal consistency in the measure...

Purpose. This paper aims to offer an empirical study of the impact of institutional quality on the banking system risk and credit risk. Design/methodology/approach. Applying cross-sectional dependent tests and stationary tests to check the property of our sample, the panel corrected standard errors model is recruited as the main estimator, while feasible generalized least squares, pool ordinary least squares (OLS), robust pool OLS and other estimators are used as a robustness check for an unbalanced panel data for 56 economies divided into three subsamples between 2002 and 2015. Findings. The empirical results show several significant contributions. First, an improvement in institutional quality is an important factor to reduce the banking system risk. This effect of the institutions is less important in well-capitalized, highly profitable and in high-economic growth countries. This effe...
