Background: In the present study, Tocilizumab(TCZ) was used in patients with COVID-19, who had clinical deterioration and meet the inclusion criteria, previously established by an expert panel (IL-6 >40,, Ferritine >500, PCR >10, Linfopenia <500). Methods: In a single-arm, multicenter (3 private hospital from Lima, Peru), descriptive, retrospective study adult hospitalized COVID-19 patients were included. The clinical and laboratory parameters were collected prior to the administration of TCZ and 24-48 hours after finnishing it. Data was analysed as the mean ± standard deviation for continuous variables and as an absolute value with percentages for categorical variables. The t-student test was used to compare the variables using SPSS, version 23.0. Results: A total of 20 patients (14 men, age 61.9 ± 12.7) with laboratory confirmation (PCR or serological test) for Covid-19 w...

Introduction: endemic pemphigus foliaceus (PFE) has been described at the beginning of the 50s in the peruvian forest. In 2006,Ortega & col. reported the presence of desmoglein 1 antibodies in Pueblo Libre, Ucayali. Nevertheless, immune reports does not exist on patients relatives with PFE in the zone.Objetives: to compare the immunopathologic profiles of healthy subjects from Pueblo Libre (an area in Ucayali, endemic for pemphigus foliaceus), with healthy relatives of patients with endemic pemphigus foliaceus (EPF) and healthy controls from non-endemic areas.Materials and methods: this is a prospective multicentric study performed from June to August 2006. The sample consisted of 41 healthy subjects from the Pueblo Libre community, 11 relatives of EPF patients and 20 healthy subjects from non-endemic areas. Introduction: Prenatal diagnosis includes all diagnosis used to detect congenital alterations in the fetus. Amniocentesis and study of chorionic villus sampling are the most common techniques used in prenatal diagnosis in order to detect chromosomal alterations in a fetus at risk because of mother’s age or presence of ultrasound markers. Objectives: To determine frequency of chromosomopathies and culture success in patients attended in a specialized centre. Design: Retrospective study. Setting: Reprogenetics SAC, Lima, Peru. Participants: Pregnant women with age above 35 years or with ultrasound markers of fetal anomalies. Interventions: In 118 patients attended from June 2007 through August 2010 data of frequency of chromosomopathies and culture success were analyzed as well as mean mother age, gestational age and indications of prenatal cytogenetic study. All amniotic fluid samples w...

Pharmacogenetics studies the association between the pharmacological phenotype of an individual with his/her genetic constitution. Case-control studies is a commonly used methodology when performing pharmacogenetics research. This design analyses the frequency of genetic variants in cases; that is, of those patients who have a particular phenotype (outcomes or results) compared with controls. For obtaining adequate methodological quality in pharmacogenetic case-control studies, it is important to work with precise phenotypes, have adequate case and control selection and appropriate sample size; select an adequate methodology for the identification of genetic variants, analyze the results using Hardy-Weinberg Equilibrium (HWE); and interpret the results considering the possibility of a phenoconversion phenomenon.

Objective: To estimate the role of age as a predictor of COVID-19 severity in pediatric patients hospitalized with a COVID-19 diagnosis at a reference hospital in Peru. Materials and methods: A retrospective cohort study was conducted, including pediatric patients from one month old to less than 14 years of age, hospitalized between May 2020 and December 31, 2021, at the Edgardo Rebagliati-Martins National Hospital. The exposure variable was age, categorized in six-month intervals. The outcome variable was the severity of COVID-19, determined according to the severity criteria established in the EsSalud Clinical Practice Guidelines for the management of COVID-19 in pediatrics. Crude and adjusted relative risks (RR) were estimated, with their respective 95% confidence intervals (95% CI). Results: Three-hundred and thirty-one patients were analyzed, their median age was 94 months (7,8 year...

Objective: To evaluate the validity and reliability of an instrument that measures the satisfaction of nutritional services in renal patients. Material and Methods: The study had 7 phases within which an instrument was developed that measures the satisfaction of the patients of the Renal Health Unit, attended in nutrition workshops by telemedicine, which was applied to 31 patients. Results: The global content validity had a Lawshe index equal to 0.95. The construct validity of the satisfaction questionnaire through exploratory factor analysis found 2 factors that correspond to 87.5% of the total. The reliability of the questionnaire had a Cronbach's Alpha of 0.9. Conclusions: The questionnaire that measures the satisfaction of renal patients attended by telemedicine had high content, construct, and reliability validity.

2150 hysterectomies performed during the years 1984-1986 of which 547 had a diagnosis of uterine adenomyosis by pathologic examination were reviewed, 452 cases it was possible to assess clinical and epidemiological characteristics were selected. Predominantly in the corresponding age group 41-50 years with a preferential distribution in premenopausal age (p <0.05) it is demonstrated. The background of parity and (p <0.05) obstetric and gynecological surgery, particularly the presence of uterine curettage is associated with increased frequency of disease (p <0.05). No statistically significant association was found for the submission of adenomyosis as: age of onset of menarche, age at first intercourse, number of pregnancies per patient and surgical history of previous cesarean. Clinical symptoms for which patients attended were: abnormal uterine bleeding and abdominal and pelvic pain. AI...
