Objective: To learn about and compare breastfeeding practices, complementary feeding and the nutritional status of preschoolers attending various child development centers in a municipality of Mexico City. Materials and methods: An analytical cross-sectional study which analyzed a sample of 444 preschoolers who underwent anthropometric measurements and hemoglobin determination. Additionally, information on breastfeeding andcomplementary feeding practices was gathered from mothers. The children were categorized into two age groups (13 to 59 months and 13 to 80 months). Results: The average age was 48.4 months, with 90 % having received breastfeeding for an average of 7.7 months and 63 % having started complementary feeding before six months of age. Significant linear correlations were observed inheight-for-age (r = 0.88) and weight-for-age (r = 0.72), and 6.5 % exhibited stunting. Accordi...

Introduction: This article summarizes the clinical practice guideline (CPG) for the management of enteral nutrition in premature newborns with very low birth weight in the Social Security of Peru (EsSalud). Objective: Provide evidence-based clinical recommendations for the management of premature newborns with very low birth weight in EsSalud. Methods: A guideline development group (GDG) was formed that included medical specialists and methodologists. The GDG formulated 5 clinical questions to be answered by this CPG. Systematic searches were carried out for systematic reviews and – when considered relevant – primary studies in Medline and CENTRAL during 2021. The evidence was selected to answer each of the clinical questions posed. The certainty of the evidence was assessed using the Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development, and Evaluation (GRADE) methodology. In periodic ...

Objective: Determine the association between attitudes towards breastfeeding and the practice of exclusive breastfeeding in Mexican mothers. Material and method: The study design was descriptive, correlational and cross-sectional. The sample was 169 mothers. Biological mothers with at least one child from 0 to 24 months of age and with signed informed consent were included. We used a sociodemographic data card, the Scale of Attitudes towards Infant Feeding and questions about the practice of breastfeeding. We calculated univariate and bivariate descriptive statistics. Results: The sample of this study involved 169 dyads (mother and son). The mean age of the mothers was 27,22 (SD = 5,70) years. According to attitudes towards feeding, 59,80% reported a neutral attitude towards infant feeding. 52,10% of mothers reported that they would stop breastfeeding after 12 months of age. 83,10%...

Background: This study aimed to determine the relationship between diet quality and nutrition knowledge (CN) and nutrition practices (NP) of people who perform physical activity (PA) regularly. Methods: Two hundred healthy individuals who attended the gym at least three times a week were studied. The quality of the diet is calculated using the Healthy Eating Index-2015 (HEI-2015). Linear regression models were used multiplex to assess associations between NC and PN scores and dietary variables. Results: Of the participants, 47.0% had poor NC and 48.0% had poor NP. It was determined that the PN scores were significantly associated with whole grain, seafood, and herbal protein and quality total diet (p < 0.05), while CN scores were not associated with the quality of the diet or its components (p > 0.05). A one-unit increase in CN score resulted in a 26.7% increase in snack consu...

The Cavia porcellus L. systems implemented by small producers in Colombia have been slow to apply the processes of development and incorporation of feeding practices and technology in nutritional support. The objective of this study was to determine the feeding practices and technology in nutritional support implemented and projected in the C. porcellus L. systems by the producers. Four components were evaluated in 404 C. porcellus L. units and 29 focus groups: demography, identification of the production unit, implemented feeding practices, technology in nutrition and feeding, and the C. porcellus L. producers' perspectives. A Pearson Chi-squared test, a Tukey’s T-test, and a Multiple Linear Regression were used to evaluate the differences between regions using SPSS software version 20. The average area of C. porcellus L. -producing units corresponded to 0.35 ha (Nariño) and 0.17 ...

The text examines the evolution of human nutrition from the emergence of the first hominids to the present day, focusing on how changes in food production have impacted both health and the environment. The objective of the research was to analyze these changes, emphasizing the responsibility of food companies in promoting sustainable and healthy practices. The methodology employed was a literature review, selecting 47 relevant articles published between 2016 and 2024. The findings revealed that although technological advances in food production have improved food security, they have also contributed to the rise in chronic diseases such as obesity and type 2 diabetes. Notably, the negative impact of consuming ultra-processed foods and refined grains was highlighted, along with the influence of marketing on dietary decisions. The study concluded that it is essential to reassess current pro...

Introduction: for Venezuela, which is going through a profound political and socioeconomic situation, it is imperative to know the nutritional situation of the child population, in order to intervene on its possible consequences. Methods: to diagnose their anthropometric-nutritional situation, body weight, height and arm circumference were measured in 1717 infants from eight neighborhoods in the city of Puerto La Cruz, constructing the P/E, T/E, P/T and CBM indicators, using the WHO standards. Results: although most were within normal limits, a significant incidence of stunting (chronic malnutrition) followed by emaciation (acute malnutrition) was obtained, while overweight has practically disappeared. Conclusion: model consistent with the occurrence of prolonged forms of scarcity, which represents a great challenge for assistance, care and nutritional education programs. Keywords: malnu...

Passion fruit (Passiflora edulis) is a tropical fruit appreciated for its attractiveness and nutritional value. The yellow variety (Passiflora edulis f. flavicarpa) and the purple variety (Passiflora edulis f. edulis) are the best-known species, both rich in carbohydrates, proteins, lipids and bioactive compounds. Despite their potential, passion fruit by-products, such as seeds and peel, are underutilized, despite being sources of phenolic compounds and carotenoids. The leaves are considered insignificant, yet they contain nutrients and medicinal effects beneficial to health. Nevertheless, these by-products have diverse uses and applications. In this sense, this work seeks to document research on passion fruit and its by-products, emphasizing their composition and possible uses in agroindustrial products. In addition to propose pest biocontrol strategies to preserve the quality of the c...
