Plants have an innate immune system that is organized at two levels: one on the surface of the cells and another in the cytoplasm of the cell. Receptors on the cell surface are involved in the first line of defense, triggering immune responses by perceiving immunogenic patterns that occur during pathogen invasion. The Cf-4 receptor, present on the cell surface of tomato, requires the presence of the co-receptor SOBIR1 to confer resistance to strains of the fungal pathogen Cladosporium fulvum that secrete the Avr4 effector protein. This interaction triggers an immune response that includes a form of programmed cell death known as the hypersensitive response (HR). This thesis explores the early signaling events triggered by the cell surface receptor Cf-4, using the solanaceous model plant Nicotiana benthamiana. Furthermore, a novel method to visualize and quantify HR intensity is presented...

Develops the design of a new contemporary art museum, through the innovation of a new architectural design methodology aided by new computational techniques. Based on the structural capacity and geometric organization in the textile units, we speculate about a new way of conceiving spatiality and geometry helped by new computational techniques. Geometric units are digitally reproduced and a series of parameters from the architectural program are formulated. These performative mechanisms or models generate complex geometry based on the spatial needs of the building. The collection of results is analyzed and classified to generate geometry and architectural spatiality capable of containing a specific activity and area of the museum. The project conceptualizes the mathematical and inverse parity effect for the planning of the new contemporary art museum in the city of Frankfurt am Main.

The classification of “The Silent War” series (1970-1979) as “pro-indigenous literature” led to the epic nature of Manuel Scorza’s novels being overlooked, together with the complexity and richness of a literature that employs both the narrative device of the chronicle and the path opened by the new novel to explore the disconnects between myth and history. The “Immobile Dance” (1983), the first of a new series of novels entitled “The Fire and the Ash”, would continue to employ the epic form and the new forms of writing, inviting critical reflection on how Latin American literature is received in Europe.

The purpose of this article is to reflect on the implications of recognizing the intrinsic value of life in forests and, to this end, it proposes a forestry vision beyond timber; it takes as a reference the contributions of the Colombian philosopher Carlos Maldonado and complements them with the contributions of the process "Towards a new Forestry Policy for Peru" in which the author acted as a systematiser. It is found that the denomination of forest resources obeys an economicist conception sustained by a disjunctive form of human relationship with forests. The currents of nature conservation indicate that there is a biocentric turn that overcomes the anthropocentric ethic that has prevailed to date. Hence the need to broaden the forest concept reduced to timber. From the reflection it is concluded that the incorporation of an expanded vision of forest sciences includes the recogniti...

Heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF) and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) are two common comorbidities that share similar pathophysiological mechanisms. There is a growing interest in the potential of targeted therapies to improve outcomes in patients with coexisting HFrEF and NAFLD. This manuscript reviews current and potential therapies for patients with coexisting HFrEF and NAFLD. Pharmacological therapies, including angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors/angiotensin receptor blockers, mineralocorticoids receptor antagonist, and sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 inhibitors, have been shown to reduce fibrosis and fat deposits in the liver. However, there are currently no data showing the beneficial effects of sacubitril/valsartan, ivabradine, hydralazine, isosorbide nitrates, digoxin, or beta blockers on NAFLD in patients with HFrEF. This study highlights the imp...

César Vallejo is one of the most representative figures of Peruvian literature and his works have been approached from different perspectives that have been debated until today. Thus, the novel Fabla salvaje, despite its short length, is a complex text that has been read mainly as a representation of identity conflict, dementia or masculinity. In view of this predominance, we consider that an approach to the female character in the novel is necessary in order to generate a reading that dialogues with other aesthetic proposals close to the work. In this sense, the present work will dialogue with the nineteenthcentury cliché of the «angel of the home», which is present in pictorial and literary art and which constitutes a stereotype of the role of women in society. The aim is to recognise the differences and similarities in the conformation of this cliché in Adelaide and Lucia, char...

This article offers an analysis of the classic motif of memory; we will study the use of ekphrasis as a testimony of memory, as expressed in the images contained in the ponchos; we will consider Andean notions of time and its place in myth, and discuss how in the text —as well as in the ponchos— we find an end that marks a beginning, and a beginning that marks an end. The article analyzes the process of constructing ekphrasis through the narrative voice and the use of sub-motifs related to the central motif of memory: knowledge, the world turned upside down, eternal return, oblivion, and the complex dimensions of time, where the past, present and future are combined. We will employ comparative critical theory, specifically those notions expressed by imagology and thematology. The role played by memory as a fundamental motif in shaping our humanity is compared to the Andean mythical...

The goal of this study is to better understand the complexity of the canonical Wnt/β-catenin (C-WNT) signaling pathway in colorectal cancer (CRC): how it works, its key mutations and the novel therapeutic compounds under development. PubMed, Scopus and SciELO were used to find the most relevant medical literature on the issue. The C-WNT signaling pathway regulates essential cellular biological processes: genetic changes in this pathway are significant contributors to CRC. The Wnt ligand binding to the Frizzled receptor and low-density lipoprotein receptor-related protein 5 or 6 (LRP5/6) stimulates the C-WNT signaling pathway; this extracellular membrane ternary complex activates kinases that promote phosphorylation of the intracellular domain of LRP5/6 and starts the cell signaling cascade. The C-WNT signaling pathway is changed in more than 90 % of all CRCs, with the adenomatous polypo...

Substantial material, financial and human resources are dedicated to research on tumor biology. The validation of biomarkers, the development of novel diagnostic methods, the implementation of early detection programs in communities, and the promotion of healthy lifestyles have positively impacted on the prevention and control of this group of diseases. However, cancer remains a global health problem. Multiple factors affect the effective management of neoplasia, including the complex relationship between immune system and transformed cells. It is a fact that the diversity of immune system´s effector mechanisms detect and eliminate neoplastic cells. However, these immune mechanisms also promote somatic evolution of tumors by selecting cellular clones resistant to immunity. This complex relationship conceptualized as cancer immunoediting develops mainly at the tumor microenvironment. Imm...

The main objective of the study was to apply the triadic method of Gérard Genette (1989), to analyze the narrative structure of the novel Tomorrow I will return. For this purpose, we started from the principle that every literary creation has two components: the story, represented by the what or level of meaning; and the discourse, the how or plane of the signifier. These components were analyzed taking into account the contributions of narratology and, assuming as a method of study, the three categories proposed by Genette: modalization, temporalization and spatialization. The results showed that the global corpus of the narrative has been built taking into account multiple points of view, called focalizations, added to distortions of time and the configuration of an extended socio-cultural space. This reality is heterogeneous, complex and contradictory, in which it coexists, especiall...

According to reports from the Observatorio Nacional de Crímenes de Odio contra Personas LGBT, violence towards this community has reached alarming levels in recent years. This problem has reached fiction: Fernanda Melchor addresses this topic in her novel Temporada de huracanes (2017), where the proliferation of hate crimes becomes the central theme. This article carries out a critical study on masculinity and the queer subject, analyzing how the latter influences heterocentric behavior, revealing fissures and alternative identities concealed beneath hypermasculinity. Through a meticulous analysis of the behavior of the main characters, this work scrutinizes the silences, dissonances, and behaviors that unbalance hegemonic masculinity and at the same time, explores how homophobia is used as a tool to maintain social control, which reveals a complex social problem that queer subjects suf...
