In the decade of 1990, Peru lived through a national crisis, a result of the violence in the country and the decrease in the growth of the economy. In this context, the program Heritage for Development of the Spanish Cooperation began its work in the Historic Center of Lima. In a situation in which the priority is not the intervention in cultural assets, a project emerged that seeks to meet society’s different needs through the revaluation of the patrimony. Through this recovery process, there were attempts to instruct people in the craft of restoration, in order to later on include them in the project. The goal of the program at the time was the restoration of heritage and, with the creation of the Escuela Taller de Lima, the project expected to train the population in restoration and conservation work. When the Escuela Taller was introduced as part of the program, it included the soc...

This study analyzes factors that allow local officials to overcome design distortions generated during the process of registering beneficiaries of the «Vaso de Leche» Program in a context in which these beneficiaries are powerful social actors who have a capacity for collective action. This study was conducted between 2002 and 2010 in Villa El Salvador, a district of metropolitan Lima. Villa El Salvador municipal authorities selected beneficiaries without considering the target population as established by the official regulations. This variation from established norms is understood in this study as a «design distortion». Starting in 2004, this distortion was reduced with the introduction of a registry for the program that did follow official norms. In the literature, control mechanisms are highlighted as a key strategy for correcting design distortions. This study suggests an altern...

In 1984, in the context of Peru’s internal armed conflict between the Shining Path and the State (1980-2000), Lima’s socialist mayor Alfonso Barrantes Lingán decreed the creation of Huaycán, the first housing project targeting Lima’s poorest residents. Huaycán originated from a shared socialist vision by urbanists and shantytown settlers to address the politics of abandonment by establishing a co-management program between municipal representatives and the population. This article traces the creation of Huaycán, from 1983 to 1985, as a project that emanated from the demands of a new generation of urban residents. The article reveals the tensions derived from within the leftist front, and between the urbanists and shantytown settlers that created the project.

This research evaluated the effect of the Armonía program, based on mindfulness, on academic performance and academic stress in students of a higher education institution in Lima, through 8 sessions of approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes, for 8 weeks. A quasi-experimental design with pre and postest was used, with two groups (experimental and control), both with 25 randomly assigned participants, who had a mean age of 19.82 years. For the measurement of stress, the SISCO SV-21 Inventory was used and for academic performance, the grades of the first and second partials, completed by the teachers, were used. It was found that there are statistically significant effects in favor of stress reduction in general explained by the program with a large effect size (d = 1.18; p < .01), as well as for its stressor dimensions (d = 1.39; p < .01), symptoms (d = 2.88; p < .01) and copi...

Behavior-based safety programs are applied with the aim of reinforcing the level of safety at work, but if it is done by complying with a number of observations of safe behavior established in the goal of the month in the workplace, it generates in workers who only comply with safety while being observed or that observers report behaviors that they did not really see; consequently, accidents with workers continue and even worse with fatal cases, observers stop believing in the safety program they are using and management comes to believe that with a greater number of observations it is possible to correct unsafe behaviors; therefore, the results of the program are not achieved over time. This is a consequence of not having understood the principles of behavior-based security theory since the beginning of its implementation. In the present investigation, the behavior-based security theory...

One of the major educational problems in Peru is the low level of efficiency attained in elementary schools. In this paper we analyze the impact of two types of preschool programs, Centros de Educación Inicial (CEI) and Programas No Escolarizados de Educación Inicial (PRONOEI). We carried out a retrospective survery in nine public schools in Lima that had a high repetition rate. Among children with preschool education at CEI the probability of getting a higher achievement increases in 25% in language and 22% in mathematics. Among children with preschool education at PRONOEI, the probability of obtaining a higher achievement increases in 15% in language and 17% in mathematics.

Introduction: The internship in obstetrics is 6 to 10 months, depending on the university. The clinical obstetrician instructors of the high-risk obstetric service (ARO) observed that this variation affected the acquisition of skills required of the interns in the care of obstetric complications. It was decided to implement an educational program for obstetric interns from different universities focused on the acquisition of five basic competencies for the care of obstetric complications. Objective: To introduce the use of educational tools to guarantee the unified clinical instruction of obstetric interns in the ARO rotation, as well as to guide and evaluate the progressive acquisition of basic competencies and skills for the care of obstetric complications. Materials and Methods: Pre-experimental study, carried out in 12 obstetric interns from public and private universities, rotating ...

Objective. To characterize compliance with the annual curricular program of second and third-year cardiology residents in hospital of Lima—Peru during the COVID-19 pandemic. Materials and methods. A cross-sectional study was conducted, through a questionnaire applied to seventy-eight cardiology residents from the second and third year of specialty. We evaluated the compliance with rotations in clinical fields, individual compliance with the annual program, and the achievement of minimum training standards. Results. Compliance with rotations in clinical fields was highly variable (from 7.9% in Cardiac Rehabilitation for the second year to 90.9% for imaging in cardiology). Regarding individual compliance, 98.7% did not manage to comply with the annual program. Finally, only the standard of evaluation by radionuclides of myocardial function and perfusion was achieved by all residents, con...

Tutorial support has become more relevant in recent years because of its implications on the socio-emotional and academic performance of students. Consequently, many universities are implementing institutional plans designed to enable students to strengthen their skills and abilities. In that sense, the study seeks to examine the perception of a group of 30 inland students, between the ages of 15 and 18, with respect to the activities developed during the 2014-1 tutorial program. A qualitative phenomenological design was used, as well as focus groups and projective techniques for the data collection process. The results indicate that students view the tutorial program as a space for support and attention, which contributes to the college-life adjustment process; however, they indicate that it should be adapted to the group’s ever-changing needs.

The objective of the research was to identify the effect of a complementary academic program on the improvement of entrepreneurship competence at level 1 (n1) among undergraduate students. To achieve this, an experimental program was conducted in 2020, based on the Lean Startup methodology, utilizing a quantitative, quasi-experimental approach with Solomon’s design. The sample consisted of 112 students, and the evaluation tool employed was a rubric that had been validated by a committee of experts and approved by the institution’s assessment area. A questionnaire was administered and analyzed using the Kruskal-Wallis and Mann-Whitney tests. The findings demonstrated an improvement in the competence and its dimensions within the experimental groups, indicating that the experimental group without a pretest exhibited superior results.
