Methods: Quantitative, pre-experimental approach, with a pre-test and post-test type test design in a single group, cross-sectional. Sample: 129 nurses. Technique: survey. Instrument: structured questionnaire, with acceptable validity and reliability. Results: The knowledge associated with cognitive preventive measures for mental health care of nurses according to statistics had an asymptotic significance of 0.000 obtained through the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test. Before executing the educational program, they were medium to low and after executing the educational program, medium to high; determining that the educational program was effective at a cognitive level. Conclusions: The educational program taught was effective in the level of knowledge with preventive measures for mental health care of nurses, in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, supported by asymptotic significance = 0.000 in the Signed Rank Test by Wilcoxon.
