The statistics of the major international health organizations, shows that most affected by sexually transmitted infections (STIs) are young, which also can have consequences that affect the rest of their lives. An audience study to understand how a selected sample of university students construct ideas about these diseases, how these notions are reflected in their sexual practice, and what sources prefer to learn on the subject, reveals that traditional media are no longer within of the main areas in which they obtain information or share ideas about STIs. Neither their schools provide reliable information on the subject. They prefer face-to-face communication, and the Internet and social networks to the extent that allow interactivity and dialogue. They favor a playful perspective as well as practical and useful information.

Most parasites represent a serious socioeconomic problem, because they affect pets, commercially raised, wild, and zoonotic animals. Weight loss, growth retardation, predisposition to other diseases and death are symptoms presented by the parasitized animals. The aim of this study was to evaluate the helminth fauna in bull-frog Lithobates catesbeianus raised for sale. We worked with five frog farms in the Vale do Paraíba, São Paulo, Brazil, and examined a total of 185 animals. The autopsies were performed, and all bodies that may have parasites were examined. Diagnostic parasitology tests were also performed. We found one species of nematode, Longibucca catesbeianae, with a prevalence of 1.7%, mean abundance of 14.16 and an average intensity of 850 (with a range of 729 to 1014). Given that most studies of parasitology in amphibians is conducted in free-living animals, more research on ...

This article shows a comparison of confirmed cases and death from Coronavirus disease (COVID-19), among South American countries, considering cases per million inhabitants and standardizing the time of infection, from the day of confirmation of case zero to each country. The objective is to more uniformly evaluate the spread of this virus and thus evaluate the result of the measures taken by governments against COVID-19, since various research centers show comparisons without taking into account the proportion of inhabitants, nor the time (days) of contagion between countries. In addition, we provide short-term predictions and an estimate of the end of confirmed cases in the most affected countries.

Capillaria plica Rudolphi, 1819, a parasitic nematode, infects the urinary tract of both domestic and wild carnivores. Despite its global presence, clinical reports are rare in certain regions, including Brazil. This study documents the first occurrence of C. plica in a Puma concolor Linnaeus, 1771 (Puma) from Santa Catarina, southern Brazil, marking the first report of this parasite in the southern part of the country. Necropsy and urinary sediment analysis revealed the presence of C. plica eggs and adult nematodes. The parasite's diagnosis is challenging due to its subclinical nature and the difficulty in visualizing eggs and adults, especially in wild felids. This case highlights the importance of urinalysis in wild carnivores for diagnosing urinary capillariasis and emphasizes the need for heightened awareness of this parasitic disease, particularly in under-researched regions.
