Lepidium meyenii “maca”, is an Andean crop highly valued for its nutraceutical properties, as it has antioxidant action, in addition to improving fertility, memory, energy, as well as regulating glucose levels and blood pressure. Its cultivation is restricted to the highlands of Peru, having a biennial or annual behavior, depending on the altitude, the reproductive phase needing a period of around 5 months to culminate with seed production; Furthermore, its reproductive phenology in Costa is still unknown. Therefore, it was proposed as a research objective to determine the development of the Lepidium meyenii “maca” reproductive phase under coastal conditions. For this, hypocotyls were collected from the La Hermelinda Market, which were selected, disinfected and cultivated in a demonstration plot in the University City of the National University of Trujillo, where the data referri...

Tarasa is a genus endemic to the Americas that is represented in Peru by 14 species. In the context of the taxonomic treatment of this genus for the Peruvian flora, two names of species that need to be typified to stabilize their nomenclature were identified. For the nomenclatural treatment, the protologues are analyzed and the type material is studied in physical or through online images. Lectotypifying is carried out in accordance with the indications of the current International Code of Nomenclature for Algae, Fungi and Plants. Lectotypes are designated for two names of Tarasa species endemic to Peru.

In order to recover, even partially, the memory of the intense relations that existed among the different Arawá people in the middle Purus region, this article explores, through the intertwining of human and plant life, the sociality that was broken, the stories that were once shared, but also the bonds that are still flourishing in the forests. The forester science, attentive to plants and anthropic vestiges present in the forests, shows unsuspected ways to analyze the complex relationships between the Hi-Merimã, who are now in isolation, and their neighbors, especially the Jamamadi. In this text, we propose an analysis of the narrative of an encounter through notes that demonstrate the centrality and fecundity of plants for the understanding of Hi-Merimã sociality and territorial dynamics. The notes are based on bibliographic data from anthropological, archeological and botanical st...

Since its discovery, a series of papers have recognized the importance of the painted watercolors ordered by Bishop Baltasar Jaime Martínez Compañón y Bujanda to show his diocese areas and general characteristics. Completing this task was entrusted to a group of anonymous and self-taught artists who used the available resources at their disposal. The resulting works aren’t usually considered study objects by art history. This article reviews the botanical illustrations in the codex, focuses on medicinal use plants and their recognition not only as a visual resource at the service of science but also as artistic works.

'Tama', 10 kg ...

Livestock farming feed in the northern highlands of Peru is based on the association of ryegrass (Lolium multiflorum L.) ecotype cajamarquino–white clover (Trifolium repens L.) Ladino variety, which constantly varies in its agronomic characteristics and nutritional value due to management considerations and its association with the soil and the animal. The objective of this study was to evaluate yield, plant height, growth rate, tillering, tiller number, spikelets, basal diameter in ryegrass, elongation rate, internode length and decline points in clover over one year. Nutritive value was represented by crude protein (CP), neutral detergent fibre (NDF), in vitro digestibility of dry matter (IVDDM) and metabolisable energy (ME) at three cutting frequencies (30, 45 and 60 days). Better yield (5588 kg DM ha) and plant height (47.1 cm) were shown by the 60-day cutting frequency; however, t...

This essay aims to propose a reflection on the potential of a citizen-led intervention in San Martín de Porres, Metropolitan Lima, as a formative space for global citizenship. The intervention took place in a neighborhood of the district through the creation, in 2018, of a botanical garden with wide botanical and biological diversity. The main motivation behind this initiative was to create a space for children in the area to engage with nature, fostering greater sensitivity and responsibility in the face of climate challenge. Currently, the garden has hosted school excursions from two local schools. The Swiss Commission for UNESCO recognizes the potential of education in non-formal and informal settings for the development of global citizenship. In this sense, we analyze the potential of the botanical garden as a non-formal learning environment, drawing on the method proposed by its cr...

Introduction: Ethnomedicine for years replaced primary public health care, in places where there is no presence of health care from the State. Objective: The botanical ethnomedicine practiced in the community of Nina Rumi, 2022 was characterized. The research was descriptive, considering two types of participants a) key informants identified by snowball and b) community informants identified by random sampling; Both groups answered a questionnaire. Results: 8 key informants “healers” of ≥ 45 years of age and dedicated to agricultural work were identified. The community informants live more than 11 years, 56.7% use medicinal plants through family inheritance, 86.7%, reporting 69 plant species grouped into 42 botanical families, the most representative being: Fabáceae (11.59%) and Rutáceae (7.25%), with a total of 62 genera. The most representative species by their use value (VU) w...
