We are pleased to share with the national and international academic community the second issue of volume 27 of Liberabit, Peruvian Journal of Psychology. This issue consists of six articles, which we will briefly describe hereinbelow. First, we present the study conducted by David Pascual Olivo Chang, Cecilia Chau Pérez-Aranibar, Fiorella Otiniano Campos and Silvana Melissa Romero Saletti. They report that the adaptation of the marijuana subscale of the Drug Use Resistance Self-Efficacy (DURSE) scale among Peruvian adolescents has adequate internal validity properties based on its internal structure, as well as high reliability, to measure the self-efficacy for marijuana use resistance in future research. Concerning the participants’ sex, scalar but not metric invariance was found. Likewise, higher levels of self-efficacy were shown among those who had not used marijuana, had no inte...

We are pleased to announce the publication of Volume No. 29 of Liberabit, Peruvian Journal of Psychology. This volume features seven articles, as described in what follows. First, Ricardo Jorquera-Gutiérrez and Felipe Guerra-Diaz report on a psychometric analysis of the Perceived Stress Scale in its two versions, 14- and 10-item (PPS-14 and PSS-10), carried out with Chilean teachers. Through a robust maximum likelihood (MLR) method, the evidence supports a model of two related factors, shows good reliability of the factors in both versions of the instrument, and demonstrates invariance of the two-factor structure for men and women in the two versions. Florencia Stelzer, Yésica Aydmune, Ana García-Coni, Santiago Vernucci, and Isabel Introzzi analyze cognitive and attitudinal factors involved in the prediction of mathematics performance in Argentine high school students. The editing of scientific journals is a process which is marked by high demands and utmost competitiveness, as evidenced by the rising rejection rates of the manuscripts submitted to arbitration. Today, more than ever, the scientific community has a very strong perception of the journals as the main platform for dissemination and exchange of original, accurate and honest information. That is why the publishing activity is carried out by a cohesive team; first of all, the associate editors are the first ones to assess the quality and originality of the manuscripts and, if approved, they are submitted in such a way that the compliance with the established international standards can be guaranteed; secondly, the scientific committee participates as the last specialized filter which, under the double-blind peer review system, ensures the objectivity in the evaluation process of the manuscrip...

Liberabit, Revista Peruana de Psicología presents a new issue consisting of the contributions mentioned hereinbelow. The original articles section begins with the study of Norma Alicia Ruvalcaba-Romero, Mercedes Gabriela Orozco-Solis, Julia Gallegos-Guajardo, and Juan Manuel Nava-Fuerte, professors at a Mexican university, who analyze school relationships, communication with parents, and prosocial behaviors as predictors of positive emotions. The results of this research allow us to conclude that prosocial behaviors and positive bonds with the mother are variables that predict positive emotions in adolescents. Secondly, Valeria E. Moran, Fabián O. Olaz, Edgardo R. Pérez, and Zilda AP Del Prette, authors from Argentina and Brazil, report the production of the Social Anxiety Test for University Students (SAT-U). They found adequate evidence of validity and reliability in the psychometri...

The measurement of burnout has evolved into the creation of various tools and models. The Maslach Burnout Inventory - General Survey (MBI-GS) is one of these instruments used to measure three definitional constructs of burnout: (1) emotional exhaustion, (2) professional efficiency, and (3) indifference. It was created for a wide range of occupations, but its latent structure and invariance of measurement in Latin America has rarely been verified. The present study analyzes the latent structure and the invariance of measurement of MBI-GS in a sample of 940 Peruvian workers in various occupations. The methodology of structural equations was applied through the confirmatory factor analysis, as well as the invariance of measurement between men and women, imposing restrictions successively more strict. The results satisfactorily verified the structure of three-dimensional latent MBI-GS, and t...

The purpose of this research is to determine the value given by adolescents and young adults to a set of biological and social variables of their behaviors and attitudes towards sexuality. The following variables were considered: mother’s and father’s images, religion, fear of “what are they going to say”, sexual impulse, sexual education received in school, friends, sexual curiosity, risk of AIDS, self-control, and response to particular situations. The set of variables included the value given to men or women who had had sexual relations before marriage, sexual stereotypes of people of the Peruvian coast, the Andes and the Amazon. The results showed that men and women give different value to the sexual dimension in their lives.

Background: Academic burnout (AB) is an insidious process characterized by the feeling of emotional exhaustion due to the demands of academic life. Despite its impact on people's health, its prevalence has not yet been reported in Peru. The objective was to estimate the prevalence of AB, based on the emotional exhaustion experienced by university students, and the differences according to the student's year of study and sex. Method: Participants were 341 college students (76% women) from several institutions who were enrolled between the second and fourth year-of-studies. The Emotional Exhaustion Scale was used to measure students' AB. Results: The prevalence of AB was described by percentages and the comparison between groups was performed with effect size measures. The results reveal BA levels at a high level (31.4%) and risk (11.7%). On the other hand, wo...
