The essence of this research is the development of a working model in which two fundamental tools that control the quality of a finished product are brought together. In this case, the synergy is between the BIM methodology and the Lean Construction philosophy, which will be applied together to improve the quality control of the finished product of a retail construction project. Retail projects which are large investment projects, for which the owners demand high quality in the final product. The work model proposed in this study aims to solve the problem of customer dissatisfaction or dissatisfaction with the final product of a retail construction project. The disagreement on the part of the end user is mainly due to poor quality control during all stages of the project. Based on academic articles and previous studies, a procedure will be proposed in which both the Lean Construction too...

[Y1-xCax]SrBaCu2.80(PO4)0.20Oy samples with 0.10 ≤ x ≤ 0.40 were syntherized using the solid state reaction technique. X-ray diffraction patterns show that all the compounds crystallized into a 123 tetragonal structure. The analysis of the structure with Rietveld refinement were made using a model that contains one Cu(2) in four coordination and not in five coordination as in the other 123 tetragonal structures. This fact allows that Tc increase with Ca concentration. All samples are superconductors as reported in a previous paper.

(PO4)3- doped [Y0.75Ca0.25]SrBaCu3-x(PO4)xOy compounds with 0.00 ≤ x ≤ 0.30 were synthesized using the solid state reaction technique at normal pressure and temperture conditions. The X-ray diffraction patterns show that for x= 0.0 the samples crystallize into an orthorhombic phase, and for other x values the samples presented a tetragonal structure. The Rietveld method was used to refine the lattice constants. The analysis of structure with Rietveld refinement was done using a model that contains one Cu(2) in a four coordination and not in five coordination in the other 123 tetragonal structures. All samples are superconductors as reported previously [1].

The fire in the structure causes the temperature of the concrete surface to increase, thus reducing its resistance to compression, bending and elastic modulus. Although concrete has a poorer conductor than steel, the constant high temperature on the surface causes gradual heating in its inner layer. As a building material, concrete is widely used due to its high resistance to fire, it is essential to withstand one of the most severe disasters that a structure can withstand in its life. The objective of this document is to carry out a systematic review of the effects that fire has on the mechanical and thermal properties of reinforced concrete structures. 50 articles published in a database indexed between the years 2011 and 2021 were reviewed, distributed as follows: 28 in Scopus, nine in Web of Science, eight in Scielo, three in ScienceDirect and two in EBSCO, referring to concrete resi...

The objective of this work is to provide a reliable numerical model using the finite element method (FEM) for the dynamic analysis of reinforced concrete (RC) structures. For this purpose, a computer program based on a strain-rate sensitive elasto-plastic theory is developed using 3D brick finite elements. The implicit Newmark scheme with predictor and corrector phases is used for time integration of the nonlinear system of equations. In addition, the steel reinforcement is considered to be smeared and perfectly adhered to concrete and represented by membrane finite elements. Two benchmark examples are analyzed with the present numerical model and results are compared with those obtained by other authors. The present numerical model is able to reproduce the path failure, collapse loads and failure mechanism within an acceptable level of accuracy.

This paper initially describes aspects of the modeling of structures equipped with energy dissipators Shear Link Bozzo (SLB) and develops two iterative design procedures to select these devices. This methodology is applied to a precast 5-story reinforced concrete building. The SLB energy dissipation devices are initially stiff, but ductile with a range of yielding forces from 36 kN to 900 kN characterized by 52 + 52 standard devices. Moreover, these devices can be combined in parallel giving a very wide range of possibilities for selection and corresponding structural response. Therefore, to simplify its automatic selection, this article presents two procedures: (1) direct iteration and (2) inverse or fixed force iteration. Both procedures were implemented in an automatic application or “plugin” for the ETABS program that automates its selection for a specific structural system or ar...

The social, economic, and environmental consequences of the failure of an arch dam make it essential to evaluate its dynamic response to mitigate the risk of a disaster. Since the slenderness and flexibility of these dams tend to increase the fluid-structure interaction during an earthquake, this work compares the dynamic response of a hypothetical arch dam in the Marañón river, in northern Perú, for both full and empty-reservoir conditions. Three formulations were used to estimate the hydrodynamic pressures: Westergaard’s added mass, Eulerian and Lagrangian. The comparisons were performed for earthquakes of distinct seismogenic sources, previously matched to a uniform hazard spectrum with a return period of 10000 years. The finite element method was used to derive the seismic demands of the dam-reservoir-foundation system in COMSOL Multiphysics software, carrying out time-history a...

This paper presents a static analysis of functionally graded single and sandwich beams by using an efficient 7DOFs quasi-3D hybrid type theory. The governing equations are derived by employing the principle of virtual works in a weak form and solved by means of the Finite Element Method (FEM). A C1 cubic Hermite interpolation is used for the vertical deflection variables while C0 linear interpolation is employed for the other kinematics variables. Convergence rates are studied in order to validate the finite element technique. Numerical results of the present formulation are compared with analytical and FEM solutions available in the literature.

The hip femoral stem is vital in ensuring patient support and mobility, and research into the femoral stem is critical for improving the durability and strength of orthopedic prostheses. Using the finite element method, this paper evaluates a femoral stem’s static, transient, and fatigue behaviors using three different materials: Ti-6Al-4V, CoCr alloy, and AISI 316L. ANSYS Mechanical software was used to perform the static analysis, evaluate deformations and stresses, and perform the transient analysis to simulate dynamic loading conditions. In addi-tion, a fatigue analysis was conducted to determine the resistance to repetitive load cycles. The results showed that the stresses and strains in the transient analysis were higher than in the static analysis because the transient analysis considers dynamic and time-varying loads. In addition, the Ti-6Al-4V material exhibits higher fatigue ...

The presence of soft soils creates a serious problem for road construction. This is because the subgrade has a low CBR value, leading to deformations on the road surface that can affect its stability and durability. To initiate the performance evaluation, laboratory tests were conducted to determine the physical and mechanical properties of the subgrade. In order to establish the parameters considered for developing the steel box test model, the structure comprising the subgrade, geogrid, and base was subjected to cyclic loading using a hydraulic actuator. The reinforcement used between the subgrade and the base was the TX-160 geogrid. The model was subjected to a maximum pressure of 550 MPa using a hydraulic actuator with a contact radius of 200 mm, simulating the contact radius between the base and the wheel. The deformations generated in the unreinforced design under maximum pressure ...

ABSTRACT Althoughknowledgeofthemicrostructureoffoodofvegetaloriginhelpsustounderstand the behavior of food materials, the variability in the microstructural elements complicates this analysis. In this regard, the construction of learning models that represent the actual microstructures of the tissue is important to extract relevant information and advance in the comprehension of such behavior. Consequently, the objective of this research is to compare two machine learning techniques—Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN) and Radial Basis Neural Networks (RBNN)— when used to enhance its microstructural analysis. Two main contributions can be highlighted from this research. First, a method is proposed to automatically analyze the microstructural elements of vegetal tissue; and second, a comparison was conducted to select a classifier to discriminate between tissue structures. For the com...

Purpose – Much research has been conducted on how consumption is related to human relationships. Only a scarcity of studies has examined brand and product selection, as well as the consumption activities that individuals follow when pursuing a sense of group belonging. The literature comprises a single theoretical framework describing this phenomenon, a nascent proposition on which further research remains undeveloped. This study aims to examine the transferability of that theoretical framework in a different context to that used for its elaboration and its descriptive scope on purchasing goods and engaging inn consumption activities to leverage belonging. Design/methodology/approach – A deductive qualitative case study and pattern matching analysis technique were used, followed by structural coding analysis of interview data. Findings – Findings reveal that the model is transferab...

This paper presents a state-of-the-art review of the nonlinear modelling techniques available today for describing the structural behaviour of masonry infills and their interaction with frame structures subjected to in-plane loads. Following brief overviews on the behaviour of masonry-infilled frames and on the results of salient experimental tests, three modelling approaches are discussed in more detail: the micro, the meso and the macro approaches. The first model considers each of the infilled frame elements as separate: brick units, mortar, concrete and steel reinforcement; while the second approach treats the masonry infill as a continuum. The paper focuses on the third approach, which combines frame elements for the beams and columns with one or more equivalent struts for the infill panel. Due to its relative simplicity and computational speed, the macro model technique is more wid...

This paper presents a static analysis of functionally graded plates (FGPs) by using a new first shear deformation theory (FSDT). This theory contains only four unknowns, with is even less than the classical FSDT. In this paper a simply supported FG square sandwich plate is subjected to a bi-sinusoidal load. The governing equations for static bending analysis are derived by employing the principle of virtual works. These equations are then solved via Navier-type, closed form solutions. The accuracy of the present theory is ascertained by comparing it with various available solutions in the literature.

In this work, we propose the nonmonotone projected spectral gradient method to solve the problem of minimizing compliance of a static structure, classic problem in topology optimization. The present method has proof of global convergence and is easy to implement. The performance of the proposed method is studied through numerical examples in two dimensions.
