Background: Recent breast cancer treatment guidelines recommend that higher-risk premenopausal patients should receive ovarian function suppression (OFS) as part of adjuvant endocrine therapy. If chemotherapy is also given, it is uncertain whether to select concurrent or sequential OFS initiation. Design and methods: We analyzed 1872 patients enrolled in the randomized phase III TEXT and SOFT trials who received adjuvant chemotherapy for hormone receptor-positive, HER2-negative breast cancer and upon randomization to an OFS-containing adjuvant endocrine therapy, initiated gonadotropin-releasing-hormone-agonist triptorelin. Breast cancer-free interval (BCFI) was compared between patients who received OFS concurrently with chemotherapy in TEXT (n = 1242) versus sequentially post-chemotherapy in SOFT (n = 630). Because timing of trial enrollment relative to adjuvant chemotherapy differed, w...

The present study tries to clearly formulate the syntactic concepts necessary to understand and interpret classical Latin texts, as well as philosophical, historical or literary texts, compulsory in university humanistic studies. The study of the Latin language entails the conjunction of two essential aspects of language: its morphology (regarding Latin, with its nominal, adjectival and pronominal declensions, as well as the paradigms of verb conjugations) and syntax, that is, the characteristic rules of its structure, its expressions, and its possibilities. In this study we do not take into account the morphological rules as they are already known. We formulate instead the syntactic combinations of the four essential grammatical categories: the noun, the adjective, the verb and the adverb. We go in depth in the peculiarity of each function, as well as other syntactic forms that can also p...

Interpersonal partner violence (IPV) is a worldwide public health problem. As a result of IPV, victims report high rates of physical and behavioral disabilities. Help-seeking behaviors are key to obtaining support on facing and managing IPV. Cultural practices such as machismo, marianismo, and familismo are related to keeping quiet and remaining in an abusive relationship in Latinas. Difficulties in sharing emotions, setting interpersonal boundaries, and communicating needs are also behavioral barriers to seeking help in this population. All these factors are associated with social disconnection which reduces victims’ chances of obtaining support in risky situations. Although several programs have been developed for helping victims of IPV, more evidence on adaptions to particular cultural and interpersonal struggles faced by Latinas’ victims is needed. Functional Analytic Psychothera...

Fruit processing generates large amounts of by-products (BPs) that play a key role in the economic, social and environmental crisis. Although these residues are not usually used, they have better nutritional and bioactive value than the edible part. Considering that the circular economy is a sustainable approach to promote a zero waste processing system, the objective of this study was to use bibliometric analysis and data mining to provide a body of knowledge on trends in the field of research on fruit BPs under circular economy strategies. The publication of the SDGs has stimulated the adoption of circular economy strategies to use fruit BPs, which was reflected in the growth of scientific production since 2015. Although it is suggested that the field of study is at an exponential stage, development is limited by the lack of regulatory instruments to regulate the use of fruit BPs. The ...

Background: Although child maltreatment (CM) has been linked to health problems and poor psychosocial functioning, not all individuals exposed to CM develop or experience negative consequences later in life. This suggests that some individuals show resilience after being exposed to CM. However, conclusions have been limited by inconsistent findings across different CM subtypes and resilience domains. Objective: To develop a protocol for conducting a systematic review and meta-analysis to quantify associations between CM (overall and its subtypes) and resilience (global and its multiple domains) in adulthood, and to examine moderators and mediators of these associations. Method: PubMed, PsycINFO, Embase, Scopus, and Web of Science will be searched to identify relevant studies on the association between CM (exposure) and resilience (outcome) in adults (≥ 18 years). Data will be screened ...

This article attempts to systematize basic syntactical ideas in order to have access to texts of classical Latin. The authoress adopts the criterion of functionality according to which she analyzes the four basic morphological grammatical categories. Noun, adjective, verb and adverb presenting the function that is proper to each one, but noting at the same time that these functions of syntax can be expressed by other morphological categories. It also presents, as a basic question, the terminology of different grammatical trends.

Diabetic foot is one of the main complications of diabetes mellitus; however, in hospitals of provinces from Perú, the relationship of this condition with hospital stay has not been calculated. Objective: To determine the association between hospitalization time and diabetic foot in three hospitals from Cusco, Perú. Methods: A cross-sectional study of secondary data analysis was conducted. We analyzed the data of patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus admitted to the internal medicine service between January and December 2016, in three tertiary hospitals in Cusco, Peru. Correlation coefficients and p-values were calculated using generalized linear models, with Gaussian family and identity function, adjusted by intervening variables. Values of p < 0.05 were considered statistically significant. Results: Of the 153 patients, 14% (21) had a diabetic foot diagnosis, and their median age wa...

Clinical trials frequently include multiple end points that mature at different times. The initial report, typically based on the primary end point, may be published when key planned co-primary or secondary analyses are not yet available. Clinical Trial Updates provide an opportunity to disseminate additional results from studies, published in JCO or elsewhere, for which the primary end point has already been reported. The combined analysis of SOFT-TEXT compared outcomes in 4,690 premenopausal women with estrogen/progesterone receptor-positive (ER/PgR+) early breast cancer randomly assigned to 5 years of exemestane + ovarian function suppression (OFS) versus tamoxifen + OFS. After a median follow-up of 9 years, exemestane + OFS significantly improved disease-free survival (DFS) and distant recurrence-free interval (DRFI), but not overall survival, compared with tamoxifen + OFS. We now rep...

Chocolate is a widely consumed product, due to the contribution of fats and antioxidant compounds; the addition of other components makes it possible to increase the content of polyunsaturated fatty acids, although they can affect its rheological properties. The influence of the partial addition of peanut paste and Sacha Inchi on the rheological and functional properties of dark chocolate was evaluated. Cocoa beans, peanuts, and Sacha Inchi were refined in order to obtain the cocoa paste (PC), peanut paste (PM), and Sacha Inchi paste (PSI). Then, mixtures between 0 to 20% of PM and PSI were formulated, and the rheological properties were evaluated at 30, 40, and 50 C; these were adjusted to mathematical models. Functional groups were identified by FTIR in ATR mode, and it was observed that the partial addition of PM and PSI did not show significant changes in the shear stress and apparen...

Environmental contamination by heavy metals, such as lead (Pb2+), presents significant risks to ecosystems and public health, necessitating the development of innovative and sustainable remediation methods. This study introduces a novel adsorbent derived from microcellulose (MC) extracted from Stipa obtusa, a grass species native to the Andean regions of Peru, Ecuador, and Bolivia, for the removal of lead ions from aqueous solutions. MC fibers were isolated through thermochemical processing, followed by chemical functionalization with sodium chlorite (NaClO2). The resulting functionalized microfibers (FMC) were characterized using elemental analysis, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), Brunauer–Emmett–Teller surface area analysis (BET), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). Batch adsorption experiments identified optimal conditions: an ...
