The relationship between executive functions (EF), creative personality, and academic performance in Argentine university students was examined. A total of 248 students (M = 22.97 years, SD = 4.43) from various Argentine provinces participated. The Adult Executive Functioning Inventory (ADEXI), the Cognitive Flexibility Scale, the Creative Behavior Scale (ECC), and the Creative Personality Scale (EPC) were used, along with academic performance data and sociodemographic information. Data were collected online through Google Forms and analyzed using Spearman correlations and mediation analysis with robust Maximum Likelihood estimator and Bootstrap. Cognitive flexibility exhibited the most robust correlation with grade point average (r = .281, p < .001), followed by working memory difficulties (r = -.234, p < .001). Creative personality correlated positively with grade point average (...

Forest fires are a potential threat to life, as they contribute to reducing forest areas, impact on the services we expect from ecosystems, the health of the inhabitants is affected by smoke and the economic costs for the recovery of affected areas is high. The objective of the study is to apply fuzzy logic to model the risk of forest fires in the Cajamarca-Peru region, incorporating variables that represent biological, topographic, socioeconomic, and meteorological factors. The analysis was based on the acquisition, editing and rasterization of the database, application of fuzzy membership functions and image fuzzification, fuzzy superposition and spatial reclassification of forest fire risk. The results obtained show that 71.68% of the area is under very low or medium forest fire risk. However, 28.32% of the study area has a high to very high fire risk, which makes the occurrence of fi...

This paper proposes a methodology (using Object-oriented data modeling) to use geometrical entities such as “Point” (Punto in Spanish), “Polyline” (Polilínea in Spanish) and “Polygon” (Polígono in Spanish) using an abstract way using their properties and some functions upon themselves, in order to use them in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Programming in an easier way to represent geographical entities. The last part you can see some simple examples about performing these abstractions.

In this research, Empirical Orthogonal Function (EOF) analysis is applied to reduce the number of variables in a sea surface temperature (SST) dataset to a second dataset containing a much smaller number of variables. The condition is that these new variables retain the maximum possible fraction of information from the original dataset. This second dataset is derived by finding the eigenvalues and eigenvectors of the covariance matrix. The objective is to identify the most significant spatial and temporal patterns (principal components) of SST variability in the Equatorial Pacific Ocean (Latitude: 30°N - 30°S, Longitude: 140°E - 70°O) and subsequently associate these patterns (or modes) with phenomena such as the El Niño-Southern Oscillation (ENSO). Finally, to validate the estimated patterns, they are compared with those obtained by national and international institutions.

This paper is concerned with traveling wave solutions for a delayed reaction-diffusion SVIR epidemic model that includes both general incidence function and imperfect vaccination. In the model, the spread of infection in space is explicitly taken into account by using a heterogeneous environment; it takes into consideration the delay in immune response and inefficiency in vaccinations. The analysis carried out below shows that the basic reproduction number Ro will be a critical value for determining the existence of traveling waves. More precisely, when Ro > 1 there exists a minimal wave speed ρ* > 0 such that the system admits nontrivial traveling wave solutions for ρ ≥ ρ* whereas no such solutions exist for ρ < ρ*. On the other hand, if Ro ≤ 1, there are no traveling wave solutions. The introduction of delays and imperfect vaccination adds richness and complexity to t...

The research work was carried out in the sub-basin of the Yanayacu River (Ancash - Peru), its objectives were: to characterize the sub-basin of the Yanayacu River and the contrast of the existing empirical equations in the scientific literature related to the water network. The 20i Recuay digital charts and the Arcgis 10.8 software were used as materials. Horton's laws of channel number, mean channel length for a given order, and Melton's law were confirmed for the Yanayacu River sub-basin. Also, an exponential equation was obtained for the prediction of the total number of channels as a function of the channel order and a potential equation for the prediction of the total length of channels as a function of the total number of channels of a given order. Keywords: water network; Horton; Melton; number of channels; channel order

Mining company towns are concrete sites where the spatial government of mining companies and its consequences can be studied. In this thesis I did a qualitative case study on the new mining company town Kalumbila based on three months of field work between June and September 2019. Kalumbila is being developed next to a copper mine owned by First Quantum Minerals Ltd. (FQM) in the Northwestern Province of Zambia. It is a particularly interesting case to study, as it is presented as a model town, open to non-miner residents and investors and designed to be sustainable and outlive the mine’s lifespan. I analysed how FQM governs space and people in Kalumbila by examining the planning goals for the town, the access regime to town infrastructure and services, as well as the narratives and practices of residents. The analysis shows that there is a strong overlap between the work and private l...

This article deals with the representation of urban space in television fiction through an approach that, starting from the works around the moving image and its modes of production, incorporates contributions from critical studies on cities. Through a content analysis that involves 10 successful series, the text distinguishes three modulations: one where the city and its meaning are built by appealing to the previous cultural conditions of the place—from historical events and difficult legacies to issues settled by picturesqueness, tourism or popular tradition—; another where the elements and characteristics of the location are exploited, conveniently amplifying, attenuating or retouching its different edges in favor of the story; and a third that appeals directly to the viewer and his background to bring ideas or external realities closer to the work itself and produce a dialogue b...

Polylepis (Rosaceae) is the dominant tree genus in High-Andean forest ecosystems. These ecosystems are severely threatened, but little is known about their structure and functioning. We provide the first reports of the dasometric structure and spatial distribution of eight forests of Polylepis canoi, P. flavipila and P. rodolfovasquezii in the Central Peruvian Andes as fundamental information for management and conservation policies. We sampled all individuals ?1 cm of diameter at ground level (DGL) in 20 plots of 10x10 m in each forest, and measured total height (TH) and DGL. Also, we mapped the spatial distribution of the individuals in two plots of 30x30 m (X and Y axes). We found differences in the dasometric structure between forests of the same species, which, in some cases, were associated with climate, soil or elevation variables. However, no well-defined pattern was found. The a...

A neural network is a mathematical model that is able to perform a task automatically or semi-automatically after learning the human knowledge that we provided. Moreover, a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) is a type of neural network that has shown to efficiently learn tasks related to the area of image analysis, such as image segmentation, whose main purpose is to find regions or separable objects within an image. A more specific type of segmentation, called semantic segmentation, guarantees that each region has a semantic meaning by giving it a label or class. Since CNNs can automate the task of image semantic segmentation, they have been very useful for the medical area, applying them to the segmentation of organs or abnormalities (tumors). This work aims to improve the task of binary semantic segmentation of volumetric medical images acquired by Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) usi...

Early mathematical competencies have a great impact on academic performance and on the development of more complex mathematical skills, especially in early education. Several authors have highlighted the importance of working memory and inhibition in the development of these mathematical skills; however, there is no agreement regarding the explanatory capacity of these executive domains with respect to differentiated performance in mathematics. The aim of this research was to evaluate the predictive capacity of verbal and visuospatial working memory and of behavioral and cognitive inhibition in mathematical competencies of relational logic and numerical type in 106 Chilean children of early education between 4 and 6 years old, who were evaluated with four executive tasks and an early mathematical assessment test. For data analysis, correlations and multiple linear regressions were perfor...

An initial ground validation of the Integrated Multisatellite Retrievals for GPM (IMERG) Day-1 product from March 2014 to August 2015 is presented for the tropical Andes. IMERG was evaluated along with the Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission (TRMM) Multisatellite Precipitation Analysis (TMPA) against 302 quality-controlled rain gauges across Ecuador and Peru. Detection, quantitative estimation statistics, and probability distribution functions are calculated at different spatial (0.1°, 0.25°) and temporal (1 h, 3 h, daily) scales. Precipitation products are analyzed for hydrometeorologically distinct subregions. Results show that IMERG has a superior detection and quantitative rainfall intensity estimation ability than TMPA, particularly in the high Andes. Despite slightly weaker agreement of mean rainfall fields, IMERG shows better characterization of gauge observations when separatin...

In this paper we study two newly discovered classes of radio sources: the highly energetic, short-lived events, known as Fast Radio Bursts (FRBs), and a new category of compact sources known as Fanaroff-Riley type 0 radio galaxies (FR0s). Due to a possible catastrophic event origin for the FRBs and a previous correlation found with an FR0 in the gamma ray spectrum, it is possible that these radio sources could also emit high energy photons in the Fermi-LAT satellite energy range (20 MeV - 300GeV). Here we present an exhaustive time-dependent and spatial search of all up-to-date observed FRBs and FR0s, respectively. We perform a likelihood analysis of the radio sources by modeling the excess flux of gamma rays with a varying index power law function using data from Fermi-LAT and the 4FGL catalog. Sources with test statistic greater than 16 (corresponding to about 4{\sigma}) were further a...

Due to a possible catastrophic event origin for the FRBs and a previous correlation found with an FR0 in the Γ-rays spectrum, it is possible that these radio sources could also emit high energy photons in the Fermi-LAT satellite energy range (20 MeV - 300 GeV). Here we present an exhaustive time-dependent and spatial search of all up-to-date observed FRBs and FR0s, respectively. We perform a likelihood analysis of the radio sources by modeling the excess flux of gamma rays with a varying index power law function using data from Fermi-LAT and the 3FGL catalog. Our efforts are oriented to assess bovine Y-chromosome gene expression patterns. One set of genes that are of interest are the so-called X-degenerate Y-chromosome genes that are located in the male-specific region of the Y-chromosome (MSY). This region contains 95% of the DNA of the Y chromosome. These genes are single copy and have an X-chromosome homolog. Both, the Y-encoded and X-encoded homologs have ubiquitous expression profiles. However, some genes, like SRY that regulates male sex determination, have functions that are more specific. Identifying DNA sequence differences between these homologs will allow evaluation of their spatial and temporal expression patterns. Identification of the Y-encoded mRNAs and their isoforms will allow our understanding of tissue specific expression of isoforms in male tissues. The latter will facilitate our evaluation of gene function in male sex dif...
