In their most widespread texts, peruvian rock historians promote semantic ambiguities around terms as rock ’n’ roll , «nueva ola» and rock music, and leave an explanatory gap in relation to the rise of rock music in Peru. This article clarifies these ambiguities and offers an explanation to the rise of rock music in Peru. The author proposes an aestheric approach based on social functions that musicians and listeners assign to a set of musical parameters in a certain historical context. In the end, the article clarifies the meaning of the terms that designate these music genres, and shows that the rise of rock music in Peru involved the continuity of some features of the genres that preceded it, and the appearance of innovations sufficiently important as to define the birth of a new musical genre in this country.

La investigación propone que el rock, que trajo consigo un discurso de rebeldía y vitalismo, significó uno de los ingredientes principales para la formación de un nuevo registro expresivo en la vertiente conversacional de la poesía peruana durante 1968 hasta 1988. A este registro se le ha denominado «lenguaje rock». Se describen y explican las características de este y se realiza un análisis de fragmentos de poemas que conforman un corpus que se proponecomo representativo. Además, se pone en evidencia la necesidad de impulsar una crítica literaria interdisciplinaria que investigue las relaciones entre diversos lenguajes artísticos.

The fungus Histoplasma capsulatum is the causative agent of histoplasmosis, disease of public health importance. The aim of this study was to determine its presence in faeces of domestic pigeons (Columba livia) in the city of Lima, Peru. Faecal samples (n=245) were collected, processed and cultivated in Sabouraud agar at 37 and 28 °C for 2 to 4 weeks approximately. The colonies were identified by macroscopic and microscopic characteristics. Only 0.41% (1/245) of samples were positive to H. capsulatum, while the beta-pert (@Risk) stochastic simulation showed a minimum prevalence of 0.369% and a maximum prevalence of 0.451%.

Accidents caused by rock bursting in underground excavations in the Peruvian mining sector pose a critical problem, leading to fatalities, machinery damage, and complete tunnel collapse. As mining activities reach greater depths, evaluating rock bursting becomes crucial. Various support systems have been employed to counteract these events, including dynamic bolts, dynamic mesh, and shotcrete on the slab. This research analyzes how these supports respond when rock mass releases accumulated energy under different conditions. Understanding their performance is vital for selecting appropriate reinforcement measures to enhance safety and mitigate the impact of rock bursts in underground mines.

Toro Muerto (valley of the Majes River, Arequipa-Peru), being one of the biggest archaeological sites of Rock Art in the world, gathers an impressive amount of petrographs: within an area of 10 km2, have been registered 2584 rocks engraved with geometrical, zoomorphic and anthropomorphic representations. In 2017, during prospections for the execution of the Toro Muerto Archaeological Research Project (PIA-TM, its abbreviation in Spanish) in 2017 has been discovered a Hill with 92 petroglyphs in the extreme north of Toro Muerto, not studied yet (“Sector X”). In 2018, the sector was completely documented creating one of the most exclusive registers of the site. Cenozoic volcanic deposits that cap the Western Cordillera of Northern Peru originally were mapped as one unit called “Volcánicos Calipuy” by Cossío (1964). Later studies (Reyes, 1980; Cobbing, 1981; Wilson, 1984) used the name Calipuy Group including within it several volcanic sequences with local informal names as “Volcánicos Llama, Porculla, Huambos, Chilete and Tembladera”. Nevertheless, Hollister & Sirvas (1978) were the first in establish an association between those volcanic deposits and processes like volcanoes growth and explosive activity. La investigación aborda la influencia del rock en la vertiente conversacional de la poesía peruana durante el período de 1968 a 1988. Se postula que este género, que trajo consigo un discurso de rebeldía y vitalismo, constituyó el eje principal en la formación de un nuevo registro expresivo poético, al que se ha denominado «lenguaje rock». Se realiza una descripción de las características de este lenguaje y se complementa con el análisis de fragmentos de poemas que conforman un corpus que se propone como representativo de este tipo de poesía. Así mismo, se plantea la necesidad de impulsar una crítica literaria interdisciplinaria que aborde las relaciones entre distintos lenguajes artísticos.

The aim of the study was to determine the presence of blood parasites in feral populations of the rock dove (Columba livia) in the department of Lima, Peru. The study was carried out in Pampas San Alejo, located in Barranca (rural area) and in a zoo located in San Juan de Miraflores district (urban area). A total of 52 adult birds were captured using mist nets, resulting 28 and 24 pigeons in the rural and urban area respectively. Blood samples from the brachial vein were collected, and blood smears were fixed with methanol and stained with Giemsa. Results showed 94.2% (49/52) positive to the presence of hemoparasites: Haemoproteus sp (94.2%; 47/52), Plasmodium sp (13.5%; 7/52) and Leucocytozoon sp (1.9%; 1/52). The Haemoproteus sp infestation intensity was very low (24.5%), low (59.2%) and medium (16.3%). All rural birds were positive, while only 87.5% (21/24) of birds in the urban area ...

Original abstract: Moraines that dam proglacial lakes pose an increasing hazard to communities in the Andes and other mountain ranges. The moraines are prone to failure through collapse, overtopping by lake waters or the effect of displacement waves resulting from ice and rock avalanches. Resulting floods have led to the loss of thousands of lives in the Cordillera Blanca mountains of Peru alone in the last 100 years. On 22 April 2002 a rock avalanche occurred immediately to the south-west of Laguna Safuna Alta, in the Cordillera Blanca. The geomorphic evidence for the nature, magnitude and consequences of this event was investigated in August 2002. La mina Inmaculada es un sistema epitermal de Ag-Au hospedado en rocas volcánicas miocénicas del sur del Perú. Inmaculada es parte del distrito minero que incluye las minas Selene, Pallancata e Inmaculada. Para la realización de este estudio se cartografió 100 km cuadrados a escala 1/25K, se obtuvieron edades 40Ar/39Ar, geoquímica de roca total, petrografía y análisis por microsonda electrónica de las diferentes unidades volcánicas que afloran a los alrededores de la mina Inmaculada. To determine the mechanical and supporting properties of the plates for Hydrabolt rock bolts, compression and tensile tests have been performed. The tests were carried out in the Materials Laboratory of the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú (PUCP), from which it is concluded that the plates that undergo less compression deformation are the corner plates, which deform 14.01 mm for a maximum load of 41.56 KN, while the refined plates deform 25.10 mm for the maximum load of 40.56 KN. The plates that are most deformed by compression and traction are the refined plates. The corner ones are the least deformed, 28.91% to compression and 28.40% to central traction.
