This study investigated the effect of two tillage practices on maize yield and growth, and selected soil properties of an Ultisol of Osun State in Nigeria. This was aimed at selecting an appropriate tillage practice for crop growth and soil maintenance. The study was divided into two experimental plots during the early and late cropping season in 2014. The first plot was manually cleared to have zero tillage while the second plot was plowed twice and harrowed once for conventional tillage. Each plot had three blocks (23.0 m x 2.5 m) with an alley of 1.0 m between blocks and 1.0 m within plots. Three seeds of the test crop were a distance of 75 cm x 50 cm per hill and each plot weeded manually at two weeks intervals till harvest. The selected soil physical and chemical properties and plant growth parameters were collected and determined using standard method after each cropping season. At...

Thermal regulation and ultrasound affect the physical, chemical, and antioxidant properties of essential oils and hydrosols extracted by microwaves from the leaves of Tagetes elliptica S. (chincho). The leaves were conditioned by dehydration or freezing, then pre-treated with ultrasound for 15 or 30 minutes at 40 Hz to finally obtain the essential oil (AECH) and hydrolat (HCH) through microwave extraction (500 W and 30 minutes). Yields, phenolic content, antioxidant capacity, leaf structure by optical microscopy, and chemical composition by gas chromatography and mass spectrometry (GC-MS) were evaluated. The conditioning of the leaves by freezing and sonication for 30 minutes obtained the best performance, 8.86±0.1% and 67.40 ± 4.8%, phenolic content of 39.4±0.1 mg EAG/mL and 346.2 ± 13.6 mg EAG/mL, and antioxidant capacity of 35.7 μmol EqT/mg and 0.25 μmol EqT/mg equivalent, for A...

The study area focuses on the Huaylilllas formation located around the city of Tacna, where no zones with potential ornamental use have been identified. A geological-geomorphological and geomechanical mapping was carried out with the aim of providing a technological and geomechanical characterization. Twenty-two geomechanical stations were conducted to obtain a characterization, revealing that the Lower Huaylillas member is poor rock and the upper member is fair to good rock. As it approaches the Millo Formation or the contact with the Lower Huaylillas, the rock's RMR quality decreases. The physical and mechanical properties of 20 samples were determined, yielding the following values: porosity (1.6-32.4%), dry density (1.5-2.3 g/cm3), absorption (0.7-20.4%), specific weight (2.0-2.5 g/cm3), and uniaxial compressive strength (7.98-91.45 MPa). Consolidated tuff with vitroclastolithic lith...

The project was carried out in the laboratory of organic chemistry of the Faculty of Chemical Engineering of the National University of the Peruvian Amazon, aiming to obtain biodiesel from residual domestic oil. The oil was collected from a total of 384 houses in the city of Iquitos, which was pre-treated to remove solids and moisture; to the properly treated oil some quality tests were performed, being the determination of acidity index the most important, because of that result the amount of catalyst to be used in the reaction was determined, this being 0,4173 gr NaOH per 100 ml of residual domestic oil. Subsequently, a reaction process called transesterification was performed, using 100 ml of residual domestic oil with different reaction temperatures (room temperature, 45°C and 65°C) and different volumes of methanol (20 ml, 40 ml and 60 ml), obtaining different yields of the nine c...
